Static Hour – Official Announcement Trailer

If anyone is still out there, if anyone is listening, you should know that Barkbyte Interactive has revealed its upcoming narrative newsroom thriller Static Hour. Set in a small town in the 1980s, you are the lone newsroom editor working the night shift amidst a series of eerie events and must figure out what’s going on and what’s fit to broadcast.

An outbreak of violence has erupted. Families are turning on each other. People are panicking. The government has issued a lockdown and they’re sending in the troops. What’s going on? The people must know.

It’s the 1980s and your journalistic instincts are reliant upon period-appropriate analogue tech. Scroll through your rolodex, make calls on your rotary phone, listen to emergency alerts, and peruse the police scanner for any info you can find. Leave no stone unturned, even if that means rummaging through your colleagues’ desks to ensure you’re getting the full scoop. The truth is out there.

As the only news editor on duty, you alone must deduce what leads are worth dispatching field reporters to, who to call for more information, and what seems important enough to take up valuable air time. Of course, you must do your best to verify each story and make sure you’re following FCC regulations!

By deciding what information to broadcast, you alone influence how the public responds to this crisis, shaping events throughout the night. With the fate of the town on the line, it’s never been more important to ensure that your reporting is accurate. But only you can decide what the public is ready to hear. Every story you broadcast or leave unaired pushes the town closer to the truth or deeper into the static. The choice is yours alone.

“With Static Hour I wanted to create a retro psychological thriller about isolation and misinformation, where you’re given staggering responsibility and must trust yourself in determining what is accurate,” said Barkbyte Founder and creative director Claire Sarmiento. “I loved the idea of spooky things happening in a small town just out of sight, where the horrors are driven by audio and left to your imagination. Furthermore, I was captivated by the idea that something terrible is happening, but you can’t quite grasp exactly what it is. Having to sort through junk data, red herrings, and scattered facts to decipher truth from preemptive speculation seemed like a flavor of horror that remains as relevant today as ever.”

Features:

  • Investigate Through Audio: Uncover a mystery almost entirely through audio sources such as calls, reports, and scanner signals.
  • Information Shapes Reality: What you choose to broadcast influences how the town reacts.
  • Tension Through Uncertainty: Evaluate conflicting and incomplete information as you decide what to disseminate to the public.
  • Manage the Public’s Fear and Trust: Provide accurate, verified reporting and the township will have faith in your messaging. Report alarming or uncertain information and they may panic.
  • Immerse Yourself in 1980s Analogue Tech: Utilize reporting tools such as CRT monitors, rolodex, rotary phones, radio scanners.
  • A Mystery Contained Within the Newsroom: Discover the outside world entirely through incoming reports, never stepping foot outside of the radio station.

Jimothy and Other Cryptids Announced for Portentum

Snowfall Games is thrilled to reveal that everyone’s new favorite real-life cryptid, Jimothy, the deformed raccoon from Seattle, will be joining the cast of their upcoming cryptid deck-building auto-battler Portentum. Coming to Steam later this year, Portentum combines original hand-drawn cryptid artwork with deep deck-building strategy, letting you hunt for broken combos using legendary creatures from around the world, like Bigfoot, Mothman, and the Chupacabra. And now, Jimothy too!

In Portentum, each run begins by building a deck of 30 cryptids and mushrooms. Each cryptid has its own ability: deal damage, heal, summon minions, or manipulate the dice. Abilities trigger on events you can build around, like a roll of the dice, an ally taking damage, or an enemy healing one of its own. Feeding mushrooms to your cryptids amplifies their abilities and stats. There are endless combinations and broken strategies to be discovered.

Once your deck is ready, it’s time to start your run. Draw a hand, spend coins to assemble a warband of five cryptids, and send them into battle. From there, the dice take over: abilities fire, combos chain, and the fight plays out on its own until one warband is left standing. Rework your warband between battles as the run goes on. Win ten battles to take the run. Lose five, and you’re out.

Portentum’s meta is ever-evolving, as every warband you create joins the pool that other players face. As you keep playing and opening card packs, entirely new deck-building possibilities and obscenely killer combos will enter the fray, providing an endless array of strategic possibilities and challenges!

“It was truly an astounding coincidence that we, as humans, discovered a real-life cryptid while we, at Snowfall, were nose deep in development of our own cryptid-based card battler,” said Jaden Holladay, Co-Founder at Snowfall Games. “We were already huge cryptid heads, and our Hunt Bigfoot mod in Fortnite had over 5 million plays, so players kept coming to us asking for more Cryptid games. That, combined with our love of deck-builders, inspired Portentum. When Jimothy was revealed – literally in my neighborhood! – we knew we needed to immortalize him forever by adding him to the Portentum roster.”

World of Tanks Modern Armor: Metal Fest Act 1 Five Finger Death Punch

Bang your head and Roll Out! Metal Fest 2026 storms into World of Tanks Modern Armor as part of the new Masters of Mayhem Season. The fan-favorite event returns with two explosive new Acts, each featuring a headlining artist, challenges, earnable discounts, and rewards, while also bringing back content from four previous Metal Fest collaborations.

Act 1 kicks off with metal powerhouse Five Finger Death Punch, running from August 4 through August 24. After a one-week intermission, the second headliner for Act 2 will be revealed and take the stage on September 1. Metal Fest goes beyond music including two all-new premium tanks inspired by Five Finger Death Punch, five exclusive 2D Commanders featuring every band member, a 3D Commander Knucklehead, exclusive cosmetics, and limited-time challenges enter the arena.

Meet the FFDP Knucklehead Tank, a durable frontline Heavy built with strong armor and a devastatingly powerful burst-fire weapon. Inspired by the band’s signature style, it features the iconic Knucklehead mascot, towering brass knuckles atop the turret, and battle-worn artwork.

Selecting the Knucklehead plays Five Finger Death Punch’s latest No. 1 hit, Eye of the Storm, the band’s 18th chart-topper on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart. The track is the lead single from the new album Legacy, out now digitally here, with CD, vinyl, and cassette editions arriving September 18.

The FFDP Iron Fist Tank Destroyer embraces Five Finger Death Punch’s darker side with a battle-worn steel finish, red handprints, claw-mark graphics, and the iconic FFDP brass knuckle cresting its turret. A battery of five oversized missiles mounted across the rear completes its menacing, relentless look. The band’s 2017 hit Trouble will be playing while this beast awaits in the Garage.

Taking command of the battlefield is Knucklehead, Five Finger Death Punch’s legendary mascot, brought to life as a fully voiced 3D Commander by lead singer Ivan Moody.

“We’re celebrating 20 years as a band, Legacy is finally out in the world, and now fans get to experience Five Finger Death Punch in World of Tanks Modern Armor. That’s a perfect storm,” said Moody. “We had a blast creating this with the team, and there are plenty of Easter eggs and surprises waiting to be found. Go crank the music and play the game!”

Metal Fest also brings back “Rush the Stage” mode, an enhanced encore of 2025’s Vanguard-event mode experience. Fast-paced 7v7 battles with respawns unfold on a Metal Fest-themed Ghost Town map complete with concert stages, dazzling lights, and festival-inspired scenery. This year’s mode introduces several gameplay refinements, including stationary Taco Trucks that can be destroyed for bonus medals.

The mosh pit opens August 4th, so turn up the amps, rev the engines, and prepare to make some noise at World of Tanks Modern Armor Metal Fest 2026.

Corsair Acquires Trak Racer

CORSAIR® (Nasdaq: CRSR), a leading global maker of high-performance gear for gamers, streamers, content creators, PC builders and sim racing enthusiasts, today announced it has acquired the assets of Trak Racer, a global designer and manufacturer of sim racing and flight simulation cockpits, seats, monitor stands, motion systems and accessories. Trak Racer joins CORSAIR’s portfolio of brands as a complement to Fanatec, the leading name in sim racing hardware.

Two Brands, One Complete Rig

Sim racing is one of the fastest-growing categories in gaming, and Trak Racer significantly expands the range CORSAIR can now offer. Fanatec is centered on the electronics that make a simulator feel real, including wheelbases, steering wheels, pedals and shifters. Trak Racer is centered on the physical simulator, including aluminum and tubular cockpits, racing seats, display and peripheral mounts, and motion and haptic systems. Together, the combined lineup is expected to support a more complete, turnkey sim racing platform.

Founded in 2008 by Matt Sten, Trak Racer has built a loyal following among sim racing and flight sim fans with products ranging from entry-level rigs to professional-grade cockpits. Both Fanatec and Trak Racer also have long-standing ties to Formula 1, which the two brands will continue to build on together.

More Places to Find Trak Racer Gear

Trak Racer has sold primarily direct to consumers online. Joining CORSAIR opens the door for Trak Racer cockpits and simulators to reach more retail shelves and markets worldwide through CORSAIR’s existing retail and distribution network.

Taking Off Into Flight Simulation

The acquisition also gives CORSAIR its first real foothold in flight simulation. Trak Racer’s TR550 Flight Simulator provide an established starting point in the category, and the same engineering that goes into a great racing rig, including precise controls, a rock-solid frame, ergonomics, displays, motion and haptics, carries over directly to flight simulators.

“Trak Racer meaningfully expands Fanatec’s sim racing lineup, bringing an extensive cockpit and accessories portfolio and a passionate, loyal community that we’re excited to welcome to the Fanatec family,” said Thi La, Chief Executive Officer of CORSAIR.

“Joining CORSAIR and Fanatec gives Trak Racer the platform to reach far more sim racing enthusiasts faster than we could on our own,” said Matt Sten, founder of Trak Racer, who has joined CORSAIR as Chief Technology Officer for Sim Solutions. “CORSAIR’s global distribution and retail infrastructure, paired with Fanatec’s engineering strength and product portfolio, will let us bring Trak Racer products to a much larger audience while staying true to the community that helped build this brand.”

Gen Con 2026 Sees Over 74K Attendees and Announces 2027 Dates

Gen Con, the largest and longest-running tabletop gaming convention in North America, packed the halls of the Indiana Convention Center (ICC) last week with over 74,000 gamers and fans, setting an all-time attendance record and generating an estimated economic impact of more than $83.5 million for Indianapolis hotels, restaurants, and other local businesses.

“We were proud to welcome a record-setting 74,000 attendees from more than 45 countries this week for Gen Con, generating more than $83.5 million in economic impact for our city,” said Chris Gahl, Chief Business Officer with Visit Indy. “Together with the Gen Con team, we look forward to continuing the momentum into 2027 and the opportunity to grow the event into the expanding Indiana Convention Center.”

A severe Saturday evening thunderstorm and tornado warning caused leaking inside the ICC, but water falling from the ceiling couldn’t put a damper on high spirits, with staff responding quickly to ensure safety and make repairs. Attendees returned to their scheduled activities once the tornado warning was lifted, with minimal disruption to convention operations.

“Even through construction and thunderstorms, Gen Con 2026 was bigger and better than ever, with a record-breaking number of attendees gathering in Indianapolis for The Best Four Days in Gaming,” said Gen Con President David Hoppe. “We can’t thank Indy enough for hosting us, and we’re already looking forward to our 60th anniversary convention in an expanded Indiana Convention Center next year.”

Held each year since 1968, Gen Con gathers fans of board games, card games, roleplaying games, cosplay, and pop culture to play, shop, celebrate, and connect over a shared passion for gaming.

During the four days of the convention, attendees browsed and shopped the wares of nearly 800 game publishers and vendors and participated in nearly 28,000 events and activities, including a wide range of gaming sessions and tournaments, artist and author appearances, film screenings, musical performances, and the annual Gen Con Costume Contest.

New this year, event programming expanded to Victory Field, including a Dungeon Crawler Carl meetup with bestselling writer Matt Dinniman, who attended the convention all weekend long to play games with fans, livestream a full play of the new Dungeon Crawler Carl RPG from Renegade Game Studios, and more.

Additional marquee events at this year’s convention included a drone light show over Victory Field on Saturday night hosted by Wizards of the Coast, a Dungeons & Dragons takeover of the Indiana Repertory Theater that transformed the historic establishment into “D&D Tower,” and a Lord of the Rings-themed “Hobbiton Summer Festival” Magic: The Gathering activation in Lucas Oil Stadium.

Attendees also flocked to Gen Con’s outdoor Block Party activation on South Street. The outdoor, open-to-the-public festival featured dozens of local food trucks alongside Gen Con’s local food and beverage partners, including Sun King Brewery, HotBox Pizza, Daniels’ Vineyard, Helm Coffee, Island Noodles, and Prime 47.

Gen Con partners with charities each year to raise funds and spotlight the work of the selected nonprofit organizations. This year, attendees helped raise nearly $50,000 for Super Heroines, Etc. and Immigrant Welcome Center. Gen Con has raised over half a million dollars for charity since 2003.

Make-A-Wish® and Gen Con partnered to grant the wish of Eleanor, a teen who dreamed of attending Gen Con 2026. Eleanor attended the convention in Indy this year with her parents and sister, where the family was treated to four days of unforgettable memories and extra-special amenities and perks, making the ultimate wish of a young storyteller and tabletop gaming fan born with a critical heart condition come true.

“We’re grateful to the Gen Con team for creating such a special experience for Eleanor,” said Caitlyn Haddenhorst, Vice President of Mission Delivery for Make-A-Wish Ohio, Kentucky & Indiana. “She and her family enjoyed attending Opening Ceremonies, meeting Matt Mercer, attending the Costume Contest, and experiencing True Dungeon, among many other highlights over an unforgettable four days.”

Gen Con will return to Indianapolis from August 5-8, 2027, for its 60th edition. Next year’s convention will feature additional event and exhibition space from the 143,500-square-foot convention center expansion, including the new Signia by Hilton hotel, which opens in February 2027. Badges for next year’s convention will go on sale in early 2027 on the convention’s website (gencon.com).

About Gen Con

Gen Con is North America’s largest and longest-running annual event devoted to tabletop gaming culture. The convention, which began in 1968 in Lake Geneva, WI, takes place each summer in Indianapolis, IN. During the convention, attendees shop and demo games from hundreds of exhibiting companies and choose from thousands of ticketed events representing a wide array of board games, card games, roleplaying games, seminars, entertainment events, and more.
