XTRA Atto 4K Action Camera Review: Specs, Features, and More

If you have been hunting for a high-end, compact camera in the United States lately, you have likely felt like tearing your hair out. Ever since the federal government placed DJI on its restricted Covered List, getting their gear at normal retail prices has been a nightmare. Scalpers have been asking wild prices (sometimes close to double the original cost) on gray markets. It’s absolute madness, isn’t it?

But you know what? A quiet company called Xtra Technology registered in Delaware appeared and seemed saved the day for us consumers. They dropped a tiny, feathery camera called the Atto for a highly appealing price of $299. Under the hood, this isn’t some cheap knockoff. Teardowns and software sleuths have shown it’s a carbon copy of the DJI Osmo Nano. By putting a new name on the box, they managed to give American creators a massive discount on top-tier tech – and I love it!

Hands-Free

When you pull the Xtra Atto out of the box, the first thing you notice is how light it feels. Weighing exactly 54 g, it’s about the same weight as a single standard egg. You can literally clip it to your cap brim or stick it to your shirt, and you’ll completely forget it’s there after a minute. Phones are great for planned clips, but mounting a bulky phone on your chest or forehead is a heavy, awkward mess. The Atto fixes this friction completely.

With powerful magnets on either side of its tiny body, you can snap it onto helmets, car door panels, or bike handlebars in a split second. It comes bundled with a magnetic lanyard and a handy hat clip, so you don’t even have to buy extra accessories before your first shoot. Want a quick first-person view of a cooking tutorial or an afternoon bike ride? Just snap it on and go.

Flagship Sensors in a Tiny Case

Usually, when a camera gets this small, the image quality goes down the drain. You get tiny, cheap sensors that turn indoor or evening footage into a grainy, muddy mess. But here is the major surprise: the Atto uses a massive 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor. That’s the exact same class of sensor you find in flagship-tier action cameras that are three times its size and price.

This extra physical space lets the sensor gather significantly more light. Whether you are shooting in a dimly lit cafe or walking down a sunset trail, the colors remain wonderfully rich and the digital noise stays extremely low. It captures buttery-smooth 4K video at up to 60 frames per second with a wide 143° field of view. This massive view is a lifesaver for POV shots, giving you plenty of framing margin so your subject never falls out of the shot.

And let’s talk about stabilization. To keep your footage steady without a heavy mechanical gimbal, the Atto uses digital magic. Its MotionMaster tech smooths out the bumps when you’re running or riding. Meanwhile, TiltGuard acts as a real-time horizon leveler, keeping your frame perfectly straight even when your head tilts or your body sways. It’s shockingly good.

Five-Minute Time Machine

Have you ever missed a perfect shot because you were fumbling with your camera? Maybe your dog did something hilarious, or a sudden wave crashed over the boat, and by the time you pressed record, the moment was gone.

Let me explain the coolest feature on this little machine: the 5-minute pre-recording buffer. When you activate it, the camera continuously caches video in a rolling temporary loop without saving it to your card. The second you hit the physical shutter button, the Atto retroactively saves the previous five minutes of footage and glues it to the start of your current clip. It’s basically a time machine for creators. It saves you from recording hours of blank footage just waiting for something to happen, keeping your storage clean and your battery happy.

Double Life, Double Battery

On its own, the tiny Atto camera body gives you about 90 minutes of juice, which is respectable for its feather-light weight. But the real magic happens when you clip it into the Multifunctional Vision Dock. This little block houses a 1.96-inch OLED touchscreen and a larger secondary battery. When you dock the camera, your total recording time jumps to a massive 220 minutes. It also acts as a fast charger, bringing the camera battery back to life in about 40 minutes.

But here is a quick contradiction you need to know. The camera body itself features native waterproofing up to 10 meters without a bulky case. That’s perfect for snorkeling or rainstorms. However, the second you connect it to the Vision Dock, the overall system drops to an IPX4 splash-resistance rating. So don’t go jumping into a pool with the dock attached, or you’ll be looking at a very expensive paperweight.

Our latest VLOG filmed with the Muse and Atto

Atto vs. the Competition

If you look at the ultra-compact camera market, the Atto stands tall. Its closest competitor is the Insta360 GO 3S, which retails for around $319. While the GO 3S is incredibly light and features a neat flip-up screen on its pod, its tiny 1/2.3-inch sensor struggles heavily when the sun goes down. It also maxes out at 4K at 30 frames per second.

The Atto, at $299, actually saves you twenty bucks while giving you a massive sensor, double the standalone battery life, and fully fluid 4K/60fps recording. For creators who need high frame rates to create slow-motion edits in post-production, the Atto is simply a much stronger hardware platform. It brings true flagship image quality to a tiny form factor that fits in your watch pocket.

Sound Salvation and Gremlins

For the first few months, professional creators had one massive complaint about the Atto: no native wireless microphone support. If you wanted good audio, you had to plug a clunky USB-C receiver into the bottom, which blocked your charging port and ruined the whole compact vibe.

But honestly, everything changed with the February 2026 firmware update.

Xtra rolled out a major software fix that lets the camera pair directly with the DJI Mic Mini or DJI Mic 2 via Bluetooth. You just go into the settings, tap pair, and boom—your wireless mic is connected in twenty seconds, complete with live audio level meters right on the dock’s OLED screen. If you pair it with the DJI Mic 2, it even supports full 32-bit float audio, giving you a perfect acoustic safety net against clipping.

However, the software experience isn’t all sunshine. The companion “Xtra Tech” mobile app is a hefty download that feels like it needs a lot more polish. If you try to edit on an iPad with a physical keyboard connected, prepare for some frustration. The app is locked strictly in portrait mode during editing, meaning you have to tilt your head sideways to see what you are doing.

We also ran into a couple of physical bugs. There is a noticeable phantom battery drain when the camera is fully turned off. Xtra support says this happens because the camera stays in a low-power standby state to support instant gesture triggers, but losing battery overnight is still annoying. Also, when you have a wireless mic paired and you disconnect the camera from the dock, the live image feed on the dock screen goes completely blank, forcing you to use your phone for previews.

Should You Buy It?

Purely on a hardware level, the XTRA Atto is a masterclass in miniature engineering. By wrapping legendary DJI imaging specs into an affordable, $299 US-supported package, they have created the ultimate hands-free POV tool.

Yes, the companion app has some annoying bugs, and the standby battery drain is a bit frustrating. But if you want stabilized, high-end 4K video that fits on the brim of your hat, the Atto is a phenomenal deal that punches far above its weight. It lets you stay present in the moment while capturing gorgeous, spontaneous footage that heavier setups would miss entirely.

3-Axis Magic in Your Pocket: How the XTRA Muse Saved My Travel Vlogs

If you want to capture your travels, you probably use your phone. But let’s be honest. Phones can only do so much. If you want to record steady videos while walking, you usually have to carry a massive, heavy tripod or a bulky camera rig. Nobody wants to carry that much gear on a casual vacation.

That is why pocket-sized gimbal cameras are becoming so incredibly popular among creators. The XTRA Muse is a small, five-and-a-half-inch device that costs just $379. It features a real one-inch sensor and a mechanical stabilizer. It sounds amazing on paper, but how does it actually handle when you take it out into the real world? Let’s examine what makes this tiny camera a massive deal for social media creators and travel vloggers alike.

Steadicam That Fits in Your Pocket

Let’s talk about the physical stabilization first. How many times have you filmed a walk-and-talk video on your phone, only to watch it later and get motion sickness? Phones rely on electronic stabilization, which crops your footage and creates a weird, jiggly warp around the edges of the screen.

The Muse uses a physical three-axis mechanical stabilizer. It actively counteracts your hand movements in real-time. Honestly, it is like holding a tiny professional camera crane. Whether you are running up a mountain trail, walking down busy city streets, or chasing after pets, your video stays smooth.

It has a incredibly discreet design, too. In public spaces, people do not even realize you are recording a video. They think you are holding a small flashlight or a remote control. Some creators call it “shy girl approved”, and they are completely right. It lets you film without making a scene or drawing unwanted stares.

The Magic of a One-Inch Sensor

Now, let’s look at the actual image quality. The camera has a massive one-inch image sensor. Most small cameras use tiny sensors that struggle the second the sun goes down. The Muse is different. In low-light spaces, it captures clean, bright footage.

You know what? I shot some videos at a neon-lit park at night, and the results were incredible. The colors were rich, and there was very little digital noise. It also creates a soft background blur. This natural blur separates you from the background clutter, making your videos look expensive and professional.

The default color science is also a pleasant surprise. On social media, many creators have pointed out that the camera renders skin tones with a warm, natural hue. It avoids that cold, clinical look you get with other action cameras.

The Post-Production Trap You Need to Avoid

For advanced creators, the camera supports a 10-bit X-Log color profile. This captures over one billion colors, giving you massive dynamic range. But here is a major warning. If you shoot in 10-bit log and try to edit on a Windows computer using the free version of DaVinci Resolve, you will run into a wall.

Let me explain. The free version of Resolve on Windows does not support 10-bit H.264 or HEVC files. When you import your clips, they will either look completely grey or refuse to open. Many beginners assume the camera has a hardware defect.

It doesn’t! You just need to apply a proper REC709 recovery LUT to correct the tones, or upgrade your software. Once you do, the colors are gorgeous.

Our Latest VLOG filmed with the Muse and Atto

Living with the Everyday Quirks

Of course, no camera is perfect. The hardware is brilliant, but the software has some annoying quirks. The companion app, “Xtra Tech,” works fine for transferring files, but it feels a bit basic.

For instance, if you like to edit your videos on an iPad with a keyboard, you will find a frustrating limitation. The app is locked in portrait mode. It does not rotate to landscape orientation. It is a simple software bug, but it is incredibly annoying in a real workflow.

There is also the default watermark. Out of the box, the camera automatically adds a branded watermark to all exported videos. To remove it, you have to dig deep into the settings menu of the companion app. Why would they make this the default setting? It feels cheap.

The camera also has gesture controls so you can start recording by waving at it. This is great in theory, but in practice, you might look like you are waving to a ghost in the middle of a coffee shop.

Then we have the physical accessories. If you buy the optional magnetic wide-angle lens, you cannot turn the camera off with it attached. The extra thickness prevents the mechanical gimbal from spinning back into its safe resting position. The motor will stall, leaving your delicate glass lens unprotected. You have to pull the magnetic lens off every single time you pack up.

The Big Sound Update

For the first few months, the absolute biggest issue with the Muse was audio. The camera has three built-in microphones. They are decent for casual family clips, but they cannot replace a real external microphone. Previously, if you wanted high-quality sound, you had to plug a clunky wireless receiver into the USB-C port at the bottom of the handle.

But here is the exciting news: Xtra released a massive firmware update.

This update changed everything. The camera now supports direct Bluetooth sync with external microphones. You can pair a high-end wireless microphone directly to the camera in about twenty seconds. You do not need any separate receiver plugged into the handle.

Real-time audio level meters render directly on the camera’s two-inch touchscreen. Even better, it supports high-fidelity 32-bit float audio, which prevents your sound from clipping or distorting if things get too loud. It makes the Muse a serious tool for professional travel vloggers.

Should You Buy It Now or Wait?

If you are thinking about buying the Muse, you should know that the second generation is already on the way. Xtra has started teasing the upcoming Muse 2 and Muse 2 Pro. The upcoming models show that the designers are actually listening to user feedback. They have redesigned the physical body to address several complaints.

Here are the main upgrades coming to the next generation:

  • Dual-Side Flip Screen: The original screen only rotates in one direction. The new model features a dual-axis hinge, allowing the touchscreen to flip out to either the left or the right side of the body. This makes framing easy whether you are shooting selfies or third-person views.
  • Built-In Grip: Instead of a separate plastic handle that can get loose, the new model integrates the grip directly into the camera chassis. It is one single piece of solid hardware.
  • Side-Mounted USB-C: The charging port has been moved to the side of the body. This means you can easily plug in a power bank while the camera is mounted on a tripod.

So, is the original Muse still worth buying today? Honestly, yes. At $379, it is an absolute steal. The mechanical stabilization is rock-solid, the low-light performance is brilliant, and the recent audio update solved the biggest workflow headache. If you want professional-grade travel footage that fits in your pocket, this camera is a fantastic choice that won’t break the bank.

Overall Rating 4 out of 5

Pros

  • Incredible Value
  • Pro-Grade Image Quality
  • True Mechanical Stabilization
  • Universal Accessory Support

Cons

  • Frustrating Companion App
  • Some Quirky Firmware Issues

The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu Gameplay Overview

NACON and ACE Team are pleased to announce that The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu will be featured at Steam Next Fest in June 2026. PC players will be able to take their first steps into the game’s cursed jungle from June 15 to 22. To mark the occasion, the studio is releasing a new trailer that offers a glimpse into the gameplay and the oppressive atmosphere of this cooperative horror game.

In The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu, players take on the role of explorers searching for legendary treasures deep within a hostile jungle. This demo supports up to 4 players in online co-op and lets you experience the first few hours of the game. Several types of missions are available, ranging from simple treasure hunts to battles against fearsome creatures.

Before each expedition, players gather aboard the galleon to choose a contract and share weapons and equipment. Once they arrive on the continent, the explorers set out in search of treasures and resources to bring back to the galleon’s captain. Ancient forts, remnants of lost expeditions, await discovery. They allow players to establish a new starting point to venture deeper into the jungle as expeditions progress.

But the jungle hides even more terrifying dangers. As they venture deeper into the jungle, their perception of reality gradually becomes corrupted until their sanity reaches a critical point. Visual and auditory illusions disorient the adventurers, potentially causing accidental sabotage that could jeopardize the mission. Even death offers no respite: fallen comrades may return in a corrupted form and turn against their allies.

Inspired by H.P. Lovecraft’s cosmic horror short novel, The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu invites players to form a squad of 2 to 4 members to embark on an uncharted continent in search of a legendary city containing invaluable treasures.

The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu will be available on July 15, 2026 on PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

TRAILMARK Games and AMC Global Media today announced The Walking Dead: Streets of Survival, a new single-player, modern beat-’em-up game set in the gripping world of AMC’s The Walking Dead, coming soon to PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. Play as legendary characters from The Walking Dead and use all your skills to battle through hordes of walkers, deadly human strongholds, and other explosive encounters to survive.

Fight through an action-packed campaign that reimagines the infamous All-Out War storyline from The Walking Dead television series, which saw the conflict between Rick and his allies against Negan’s ruthlessly cruel Saviors come to an explosive head. The new premium game features unique walkers and classic environments – including the Sanctuary, Hilltop, Alexandria and more – enhanced by dynamic set pieces, retro pixel-art visuals, and intense, story-driven moments.

Unleash crushing combos, signature weapon attacks, and devastating finishers in a relentless brawl for survival made for The Walking Dead die-hards and action game enthusiasts alike. Get ready to rumble with iconic weapons like Rick’s magnum, Michonne’s katana, and Daryl’s trusty crossbow.
