Following the immense success of the live-action series, Peacock announced today the series pickup of “Ted: The Animated Series” (working title). The new animated venture comes from the creative mind of Seth MacFarlane and will continue the story of the beloved, foul-mouthed teddy bear after the events of the “Ted” films. This move capitalizes on the record-breaking performance of the live-action “Ted” series, which debuted as Peacock’s #1 Original Streaming Comedy.

Seth MacFarlane, known for his work on “Family Guy,” “American Dad!,” and “The Orville,” will reprise his iconic voice role as Ted. In addition to lending his voice, MacFarlane will also serve as an executive producer for all episodes. He is joined in executive production by Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh, both of “Modern Family” fame, who also executive produced the live-action “Ted” series.

Fans of the original film franchise will be pleased to hear that several stars are returning as series regulars to voice their respective roles. Mark Wahlberg (“The Union,” “The Family Plan”) will once again voice “John,” Amanda Seyfried (“Long Bright River,” “The Dropout”) returns as “Sam,” and Jessica Barth (“Ted” & “Ted 2”) will voice “Tami-Lynn.” The animated series will also introduce new characters, with Kyle Mooney (“Y2K,” “Saturday Night Live”) joining as “Apollo” and Liz Richman (“Little America,” “TED”) voicing “Ruth.”

The new series is a product of UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, Fuzzy Door, and MRC. The live-action “Ted” series, which launched on January 11, 2024, set a high bar, becoming Peacock’s most-watched original title to date and holding the top spot as the #1 Original Streaming Comedy in the U.S. for over two consecutive months, according to Nielsen. Its success wasn’t limited to the United States; the series also became the biggest U.S. comedy launch on Sky in the UK in over two decades and was recently renewed for a second season.

“Ted: The Animated Series” is set to join an impressive lineup of upcoming Peacock Originals. This includes highly anticipated second seasons of “Poker Face” and “Twisted Metal,” the seventh season of “Love Island USA,” and the second season of “Love Island Games.” Other forthcoming titles include an untitled Greg Daniels/Michael Koman comedy, “Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy,” “All Her Fault,” the second season of the live-action “Ted,” and the fourth season of “Bel-Air,” all slated to launch later this year. This new animated comedy will also sit alongside recent Peacock hits such as “The Traitors,” “Long Bright River,” “Law & Order: Organized Crime” Season 5, “SNL 50,” and “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy.”
