This week at Future Games Show at gamescom 2026, Wolcen Studio announced the sequel to its award-winning 2020 isometric dark fantasy action RPG, Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem. Set years after the events of the first game, Wolcen 2 returns to a world on the brink of collapse. Playable solo or up to four-player co-op, players will master brutal combat, develop and customize weapon-based abilities, and channel dark, transformative powers in their quest to save reality.
The first Wolcen 2 playtest is now available exclusively through the Wolcen Studio Playtest Program. Players can register at https://contributors.wolcenstudio.com.
In Wolcen 2, enter a grim, dark fantasy world shaped by reality-bending powers. In your quest for freedom and redemption, you will encounter horrors beyond the rift that you can face alone, or with up to four players in co-op. Staying true to its predecessor, this hack-and-slash action RPG features no predefined classes. Choose the weapons that suit your preferred playstyle, then unlock, customize, and master their abilities. As you develop passive talents and collect gear that supports your choices, your character gradually grows into an archetype of your own making. Build a melee mage, spellblade, tank caster, gunslinger, or an archetype entirely your own. Your identity evolves through the choices you make.
Built From Lessons Learned
Wolcen 2 is being developed with the community that supported Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem for years, including an honest assessment of what did not work as intended. One major change is its approach to co-op. Multiplayer sessions use peer-to-peer connections, allowing players to host games directly rather than relying entirely on centralized servers. As long as the campaign remains playable, players will also be able to experience it together.
“We have learned a great deal from our community over the years, including how it feels when access to something you care about is taken away. That experience shaped Wolcen 2 from the beginning. By allowing players to host multiplayer sessions directly, playing the campaign with friends will not depend entirely on infrastructure controlled by us,” said Bogdan Oprescu, President of Wolcen Studio.
Key Features of Wolcen 2:
- Experience a Story-Driven Campaign: The world is in turmoil. Anathea, the goddess who holds the Rift between reality and the demonic Void shut, has been mortally wounded. Forced out of exile, the Warlord, a bastard son of the Shadow God, and his companions become entangled in a prophecy that promises salvation but demands sacrifice. Joined by returning characters from Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem, they must confront the fate laid out before them, or seek a more brutal path to preserve their freedom and save reality.
- Every Choice Shapes Your Power: Your skills, weapons, passives, and equipment are designed to work together. Hunt for build-defining items, gather materials, and craft what your character needs. Experiment with mechanical synergies that can change how you fight, while clear and structured systems help you understand and refine every build.
- Borne by Shadows: Fast, rhythmic combat throws you against waves of melee attackers, ranged threats, and powerful enemies. Chain abilities, set up devastating combinations, and tear through dense packs before confronting brutal bosses. When the odds turn, unleash your Shadow Form to overwhelm your enemies, reclaim control of the fight, and become something even demons fear.
- Exiled Together: Embark on the ultimate quest for redemption alone or with up to three additional friends in co-operative play online.
- After the Campaign: Wolcen 2’s story campaign is only the beginning. In Conquest, factions continue to fight for power across dynamic battlefields. The Tower of Wonders lets you pursue specific rewards while influencing the difficulty and outcome of each ascent. Both modes support long-term item searching, new builds, collection goals, and character growth beyond the final chapter of the story.
