Star Trek Online: Awakening Release Date Trailer with Guest Star Anthony Rapp

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – July 31, 2019 – Today, Perfect World Entertainment Inc., a leading publisher of live service games, and Cryptic Studios announced Star Trek Online: Awakening beams down to PC on September 10 and releases on PlayStation®4 and Xbox One at a later date. Following the epic conclusion to the multi-part saga, Age of Discovery, the free-to-play Star Trek MMORPG will return to its original timeline in the 25th century. When Awakening releases this fall, players will warp to the year 2410, where they will embark on a mission to recover stolen Mycelial technology from J’Ula and the Klingons, with the help of Lt. Commander Paul Stamets (voiced by Anthony Rapp from Star Trek: Discovery) in holographic form. Captains can also access Awakening to participate in a series of exciting patrols to repair time rifts, a brand new Task Force Operation and a special Mycelial Event which rewards players with a new T6 Elachi ship for completing missions.

“Last fall marked a historical moment for Star Trek Online, as we explored the vast universe of Star Trek: Discovery and developed content in conjunction with a live Star Trek series for the very first time,” says the game’s Executive Producer Andre Emerson. “The show’s cadence also allowed us to build an expansion over time, yielding exciting new missions, dozens of unexplored starships and countless hours of story content starring original Discovery cast members. The time has now come for captains to return home to the 25th century and we cannot wait for them to experience the next chapter.”

During Age of Discovery, players witnessed J’Ula and her Klingon forces stealing Mycelial technology, which pulled them forward to the year 2410. Captains must now follow this ruthless Klingon matriarch back to the 25th century to ensure she doesn’t corrupt the entire Mycelial Network in pursuit of her own dangerous agenda. Unfortunately, the insurmountable threat J’Ula poses to the universe also draws out the Elachi, who fear her actions will lead to the destruction of their home planet – and they will stop at nothing to protect it. In order to complete their mission, Captains must rely on the help of an astromycologist expert, a sentient hologram of the legendary Lieutenant Commander Paul Stamets from the U.S.S. Discovery (voiced by Anthony Rapp), to help them track down J’Ula and repair the tears she’s caused in the fabric of space.

These events transpire over the course of a new episode debuting with Awakening this fall. The update also introduces a series of new patrols, which will send Captains on a mission with Stamets and Star Trek Online luminaries like Lukari Captain Kuumaarke to reverse the damage the Klingons have caused to the Mycelial Network. With them come a revamped Patrols System, which has been updated to allow better access to the game’s patrols and yield new rewards. Finally, players will also be able to participate in a new 5-player Task Force Operation and a special Mycelial Event, which allows them to earn a new T6 Elachi ship by completing the new episode, patrols and TFO. Additional details will be released when Awakening launches on PC September 10.

While waiting for Star Trek Online: Awakening to release this fall, players can still catch up on all three chapters of Age of Discovery for free on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation®4. Players can create a Federation Captain from the Discovery timeline and explore six featured episodes starring original characters from the show, including Ensign Sylvia Tilly and Captain Killy from the Mirror Universe (voiced by Mary Wiseman), as well as Captain Gabriel Lorca (voiced by Jason Isaacs) and Commander Ellen Landry (voiced by Rekha Sharma). Age of Discovery also introduces brand new game content, including the popular Task Force Operations and Personal Endeavors system, and streamlines the game for new users by revamping the mission journal and removing level restrictions for Tier 6 starships.

Star Trek Online is headed to Star Trek Las Vegas this weekend! On Friday at 2:00 pm, the developers from Cryptic Studios will host a panel for Age of Discovery, featuring a guest appearance by Rekha Sharma and prizes provided by Tribble Toys. On Sunday at 2:15 pm, the team will reveal a first look at Star Trek Online: Awakening with Elijah from Priority One Podcast and special guest, Anthony Rapp from Star Trek: Discovery. The first 200 attendees will receive a Star Trek Online enamel pin and a chance to win prizes from Eaglemoss and Tribble Toys. Players are also invited to meet the devs at events that take place at the convention throughout the weekend. Additional details are available on Star Trek Online’s blog.

The Star Trek: Discovery VR Away Mission Teaser Trailer

July 31, 2019 – Sandbox VR is announcing the launch of its latest virtual reality experience in partnership with CBS Interactive: Star Trek: Discovery Away Mission. Sandbox VR aims to be the kind of immersive social experience that people have dreamt of since the dawn of computing. Through a unique combination of motion capture and VR technologies, players can become anyone and go anywhere.

Sandbox VR is working closely with Star Trek writers and stakeholders to ensure the most authentic Star Trek experience possible. The Star Trek: Discovery Away Mission free-roam VR experience will allow players to go on an away mission aboard the U.S.S. Discovery as a member of the crew. Players will use a tricorder, fire a phaser pistol, get transported to an alien planet, and go to warp on the U.S.S. Discovery.

“We want to communicate that this isn’t like any virtual reality you may have experienced or heard about before…this is something bigger and better. For those that may not know what to expect with the graphics, the equipment, etc, we can describe the experience like it’s meant to be…it’s not a game, it’s not a movie, it’s not traditional VR, it’s a full body experience that completely transforms you, where you become the experience itself,” explains CEO and Founder, Steve Zhao.

The Star Trek: Discovery experience by Sandbox VR is directed by Michael Hampden, lead designer on Assassin’s Creed: Rogue, and critically acclaimed VR game Blood & Truth.

Guided by fan favorite Sylvia Tilly of the U.S.S. Discovery (with Mary Wiseman reprising her role on the show), players of up to 6 friends will be able to gear up on a real “away mission” (with phasers and tricorders), explore strange new worlds, seek out new life and new civilizations, and boldly go where no one has gone before.

The Star Trek: Discovery Away Mission will launch in Sandbox VR’s Hong Kong, San Francisco Bay Area, and Los Angeles locations in the fall of 2019 with a full launch worldwide shortly thereafter.

The company is planning an expansive rollout across the U.S. with locations coming soon to Los Angeles (opening this August), NYC, Austin, San Diego, Chicago with 16 total locations planned by the end of 2019. Sandbox VR is the leading on-location team-play immersive VR experience with full body motion capture technology and recently announced a $68M Series A from Andreessen Horowitz.

Silver Chains – Madness Trailer

July 31st, 2019  The PC release of Silver Chains on Steam and GOG is only one week away, we would like to give you some more background information directly from the developers Cracked Heads Games. It’s about “Manning Manor”, the gigantic rotten estate where the spooky story will take place:

“As the game opens, the protagonist Peter wakes up in an unknown place after an accident. Searching for help, he heads to a mansion which exudes horror and chill. From the very beginning, we want to show the player that they have no choice other than going to that house. Neither the player nor the protagonist of the game are aware of what they are doing here and what they should expect.

The mansion itself, where the story takes place, becomes a principal character in the game. The house is built in a nineteenth-century European style. The realities and the way of life of the time are painstakingly reproduced, yet they are in a state of desolation and decline. Collapsed ceilings, ragged curtains, creaking floors – all of this serves to build a dismal atmosphere in which the player will spend the following hours.”

“Nonetheless, the fireplaces in the house are still burning, there is a piano you can play, and the exploration of the mansion’s many rooms is frightening and exciting in equal measure. All of this gives the player the ability to perceive the mansion as a full-fledged character in its own right.

The game’s frightening atmosphere is also stressed by the score, whose slow chords will haunt the player to the very end. Certain scenes feature additional music which matches the nature of that particular portion of the game.

In addition, Silver Chains features other characters who will not leave anyone indifferent. Throughout the course of the game, they will scare you, observe you, and make you empathize with them. As we mentioned before, the player, like the protagonist, does not know anything at the start. As they follow the story, the details of the plot will fit together like pieces of a puzzle, revealing the nature of the characters completely.

Creating a suitable antagonist was a major point for us. A terrifying, unkillable monster that curdles your blood. We found our antagonist in the shape of a woman – a terrible monster that pursues the player throughout the game with a murderous intent. She became an excellent way to create the atmosphere where a monster suddenly appears, running at you, and you can do nothing but flee. Of course, we gave the antagonist plenty of background, and the player’s attitude towards her will strongly depend on how much they feel for this woman’s story.”

The content of the game is not limited to screamers and a villain, we found plenty of space for puzzles, too. They are organically connected to the plot and the mansion, preventing the player from disconnecting with the narrative. The puzzles are not complex, all they require from the player is to be attentive and memorize minor details.”

“Key to understanding the plot of the game are pages from a diary which the player needs to collect in order to understand the story in its entirety. These pages are scattered throughout the house, the player will find them one by one, thus filling in the gaps of what exactly happened there. They will be recovered out of order, and so we have put the date of writing on each of the pages. This will allow the players to pause and read all the pages in the diary, like a book, finding answers to all of their questions.

We devoted plenty of attention to the main character, too. His name is Peter, he is a young man, and he ended up in the mansion for a reason. We deliberately went with a first-person perspective and never show the character’s face, all in the name of making it easier for the player to identify with the protagonist and to experience the terror he is feeling.

We are not concerned that some players might unravel the secrets of our story before the final twist. On the contrary, that would feel like a personal discovery, and we are all for it. In any case, the player will reach some ambiguous conclusions. This openness to interpretation would reflect the player’s own view on the narrative, making the story more exciting.”

Silver Chains will release for PC on the 6th of August – console aficionados will be able to feel the horror a bit later with versions for PlayStation®4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch coming in Q4 2019.

Fantastic Fest 2019 First Wave of Feature Programming

AUSTIN, TX — July 30, 2019 — Reaching the milestone of fifteen years, Fantastic Fest continues to champion groundbreaking international genre films, bringing a diverse array of global filmmakers to Austin in a highly-controlled explosion of curated cinematic mayhem.

Opening the festival will be the US Premiere of the brilliant Taika Waititi’s hilarious and tender anti-hate satire JOJO RABBIT, in which a lonely young boy growing up in World War II Germany finds his world-view turned upside down when he discovers his single mother is hiding a young Jewish girl in their attic. Aided only by his idiotic imaginary friend, Adolf Hitler, Jojo must confront his blind nationalism. With Taika himself playing the phantom Fuhrer and a terrific cast, including Roman Griffin Davis, Thomasin McKenzie, Rebel Wilson, Stephen Merchant, Alfie Allen, with Sam Rockwell and Scarlett Johansson.

Also coming in is the new World Premiere from returning alum Jim Mickle. IN THE SHADOW OF THE MOON is a mind-bending sci-fi film starring Boyd Holbrook as a Philadelphia police officer who begins tracking a serial killer who mysteriously resurfaces every nine years, defying all scientific explanation. Joining Mickle will be Vincenzo Natali, who returns to the big screen with an adaptation of Stephen King & Joe Hill’s bone-chilling novella IN THE TALL GRASS, starring the ever-amazing Patrick Wilson as one of the unfortunates discovering what horrors hide in the tall grass, as well as Brad Anderson’s latest FRACTURED, starring Sam Worthington as a desperate father trying to find his family at any cost after they mysteriously disappear in a hospital.

“Our fifteenth year is a one-of-a-kind of celebration of the cinema we champion: brilliant and out-there,” the festival’s Creative Director Evrim Ersoy said. “It’s a 15-year-long love letter to the wide spectrum of daring, crazy films, filmmakers, and audience members whom we host in Austin each September. It’s an ode to the independent spirit of cinema that allows us to showcase the diversity of the world at large and helps us to understand it better!”

Flying into Austin to celebrate the US Premiere of his brilliant, hypnotic, and violently hilarious new film FIRST LOVE will be none other than Japan’s unmatched movie maestro Takashi Miike, giving the audience the opportunity to join the director in person to discover the film that had Cannes audiences screaming in their seats with pure joy.

Fantastic Fest will continue to bring the best of Cannes to Austin with the US Premiere of alumni Quentin Dupieux’s newest droll and gory wonder DEERSKIN, starring the ever-amazing Jean Dujardin; the US Premiere of the Romanian noir masterpiece (with a funny streak) THE WHISTLERS from director Corneliu Porumboiu; as well as one of the best discoveries of the year: the magical and highly charged S&M romantic wonder DOGS DON’T WEAR PANTS.

Traveling across the globe to seek out the best of the best, Fantastic Fest will host the most unusual, challenging, interesting, and wonderful films of the year, including the World Premiere of Peter Van Goethem’s NIGHT HAS COME from Belgium which tells of a dystopian future using only archival footage. From Germany comes the North American premiere of Fatih Akin’s searing and brutal examination of a psychopath in ‘70s Hamburg in THE GOLDEN GLOVE. And Argentina delivers the North American Premiere of powerhouse high concept thriller 4X4, pitting a petty thief against an inescapable SUV.

A focus on global female filmmakers provides a quartet of mind-bending features. From Greece, Rinio Dragasaki brings the World Premiere of the shockingly whimsical and brilliantly odd COSMIC CANDY. Austria’s Kelly Copper and Pavol Liska tell the story of a very different zombie invasion in the North American Premiere of DER KINDER DER TOTEN. Italian filmmaker Sara Summa explores the final day of a family in devastating detail in THE LAST TO SEE THEM. And finally, from the USA, Jennifer Reeder brings her singular vision of a high school torn apart by a missing cheerleader in the thrilling KNIVES AND SKIN.

Documentaries make a splash at Fantastic Fest with the World Premiere of WRINKLES THE CLOWN, where your greatest real-life nightmares come true… in big, floppy shoes. The World Premiere of Michael Paszt’s NAIL IN THE COFFIN: EL VAMPIRE CANADIENSE takes an in-depth look at the man behind the El Vampiro Lucha Libre grease paint, plus Alexandre Philippe’s masterful autopsy of the classic movie ALIEN in MEMORY: THE ORIGINS OF ALIEN, and the often-hilarious examination of the history of SHOWGIRLS in YOU DON’T NOMI.

Twisted genre comes together in a trifecta of Fantastic Fest films to make you scream. The North America/World premiere of THE CLEANSING HOUR sees a fake exorcist confronted by some very real demons in a highly charged adaptation from the short of the same name; an Argentinian family literally goes to war over their inheritance in the North America Premiere of the black-as-night comedy ROCK, PAPER, SCISSORS; and a man finds himself trapped in the deep end while facing a giant alligator in the perfect midnight movie THE POOL.

Fantastic Fest alumni are represented in a blitz of titles this year. Ant Timpson returns with his directorial debut COME TO DADDY, starring Fest friend Elijah Wood as a man with some severe father issues. Daniel Scheinert explores the meltdown of two men over the death of their friend in the hilarious and strangely moving DEATH OF DICK LONG. And Jeremy Gardner along with co-director Christian Stella ask just what is behind the door in the uneasy and masterful blend of genres SOMETHING ELSE.

Finally, AGFA celebrates fifteen years of Fantastic Fest with a beautifully expanded program! Each day of the festival will be treated to a NEW AGFA screening, including the World Premiere of restorations of such outrageous classics as BLOODY BIRTHDAY. THE MCPHERSON TAPE, REFLECTIONS OF EVIL, as well as the 4K Restoration of the “gore cut” of the once-seen-never-forgotten TAMMY AND THE T-REX and a new transfer of Tina Krause’s brilliant and unseen horror nightmare LIMBO.

The Outer Worlds is a new single-player first-person sci-fi RPG from Obsidian Entertainment and Private Division. Lost in transit while on a colonist ship bound for the furthest edge of the galaxy, you awake decades later only to find yourself in the midst of a deep conspiracy threatening to destroy the Halcyon colony. As you explore the furthest reaches of space and encounter various factions, all vying for power, the character you decide to become will determine how this player-driven story unfolds. In the corporate equation for the colony, you are the unplanned variable.

The Outer Worlds will be released for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC (via the Microsoft Windows Store and Epic Games store) on October 25, 2019. Following the release on these platforms, The Outer Worlds will also come to Nintendo Switch; no release date has been announced at this time.
