The Battle for Alterac Begins in Heroes of the Storm

June 4, 2018 – The conflict between the Horde and the Alliance rages on inside the Nexus with the upcoming Warcraft-event: Echoes of Alterac! Battle for glory on Alterac Pass, a new battleground inspired by the iconic World of Warcraft battleground, Alterac Valley. Choose to a side, then complete a series of quests to unlock your faction’s a portrait, banner, and mount! And don’t forget to show your Azerothian spirit with new skins, mounts, sprays, and other cosmetic items—as well as an all new Warcraft hero, Yrel, the Light of Hope.

KEY FEATURES:

  • New Map – Alterac Pass: A snow-covered, three-lane Battleground that is the first to bring a piece of the World of Warcraft’s Alterac Valley to the Nexus. Raze keeps, gather forces, and defeat your opponent’s legendary General: Drek’Thar for the Horde, and Vanndar Stormpike for the Alliance.
  • New Map Mechanic – Cavalry: Your Cavalry units have been captured by the enemy! Your goal is to break them out of Cages on the map while preventing the enemy team from doing so. Channel on the enemy Cage to gain control of it, then maintain control until your prisoner is freed. After a short delay, the winning team will spawn a Cavalry unit in each lane, boosting the movement speed and damage of nearby allies.
  • Lay Siege to your Opponents: Standard cores have been replaced by Generals who will fight back when attacked! Generals can be attacked after one keep is destroyed, but they gain 20 armor from each keep that’s still intact—destroy all three enemy keeps to diminish their defenses.
  • Destroy Keeps to Spawn Reavers: When a keep is destroyed, the enemy team will begin to spawn melee Reaver minions instead of catapults. Reavers lead your other minions into combat, and serve to tank the brunt of the enemy General’s attacks.
  • New Hero – Yrel: This Draenei paladin is a deliberate melee warrior with heavyweight abilities and a unique gameplay style that rewards premeditation and commitment
  • New Event – Echoes of Alterac: It’s time to pick a side! Declare your allegiance to the Horde or the Alliance, then complete the following questline and unlock your faction’s Warcraft themed rewards, including a portrait, banner, and mount:
  • Quest: Play four games as a Warcraft Hero.
    • Reward: Warcraft Reinforcements Chest (Contains four item drops as usual, but one of them is guaranteed to be a Warcraft Hero from a pool of 28)
  • Quest: Achieve 50 takedowns in winning games.
    • Reward: Faction Portrait
  • Quest: Play six games with friends.
    • Reward: Faction Banner
      • Lordaeron Banner for the Alliance
      • Orgrimmar Banner for the Horde
    • Quest: Win eight games as a Warcraft Hero.
      • Reward: Faction Mount (Ram for the Alliance, Wolf for the Horde)

Raid the Nexus for Epic Loot: Get your hands on new Warcraft-themed skins, mounts, sprays, and more via Echoes of Alterac loot chests and three event-exclusive bundles, or craft them with Shards!

State of Decay 2 Passes 2 Million Players

June 6, 2018 – It has been incredible to see fans around the world supporting State of Decay 2 and we are excited to share that we have reached more than 2 million players in less than two weeks since our global launch on May 22nd.  On behalf of the team here and our incredibly talented partners at Undead Labs, we want to thank the millions of fans old and new who have helped build such a strong community of players united in the fight for survival.

With so many players enjoying the game, we’ve seen some interesting trends and data since our previous milestone of 1 million players. So far, survivors have eliminated close to 2 billion zombies! We’re also seeing lots of successful survivor stories. Last week, players tended to survive about three days on average, and as of note, we’ve seen players complete over 121,000 community stories and start brand new communities with a new map that includes extra bonuses to help kickstart their new survival challenge. This shows an incredible commitment to the game and we’re excited so many of you are enjoying the rich survival experience that State of Decay 2 offers.

The entire team has been working hard to bring all 2 million players lots of key fixes, gameplay tune-ups, and quality of life improvements with our latest game patch released last Friday. We are always listening to our fans to improve the game experience, and we will continue to bring updates and additional content as you explore all that State of Decay 2 has to offer. For further details on what’s changed see the full patch notes here.

The sequel to the original smash hit, State of Decay 2 puts players in small-town America, one year from the end of everything. The dead have risen and civilization has fallen. Not even the military could stop the zombies, and now it’s up to you to gather survivors and build a community in a post-apocalyptic world – a world where every decision matters, and where you define what it means to survive. The game builds upon the unique blend of open-world exploration, third-person action, and survival-fantasy role-playing pioneered in the original game. There is an overarching story told in the form of structured mainline and optional sidequests, but the world itself is shaped by your actions with dynamically generated content based on your choices and the ever-increasing zombie threat.

If you haven’t joined the community just yet, now’s a great time to get in on all the action! In addition to playing it with an Xbox Game Pass membership, you can purchase the Standard Edition for $29.99 and the Ultimate Edition for $49.99. As an Xbox Play Anywhere game, one digital purchase gets you both the Xbox One and the Windows 10 version of the game.

We look forward to welcoming even more players into the world of State of Decay 2 and continuing to support our growing community with further content updates and downloadable content in the future.

Again, on behalf of Microsoft Studios and Undead Labs, we’re excited and humbled to see more survival stories in State of Decay 2. How will you survive?

Meanwhile, the power supply, drives and cabling are easily concealed in the rear chamber, with plenty of room for cable routing that means even a first-time builder can create a clean looking system.

Its dual-chamber design also allows the Crystal 280X RGB to offer a substantial array of system storage, with room for up to two 3.5in drives and three 2.5in drives, so a small form factor needn’t mean small capacity.

The Crystal 280X RGB’s features don’t stop when your system is finished either, with full-coverage dust filters in the front, roof and floor ensuring your system stays looking its best long after the build is over.

Power up your system and install CORSAIR iCUE software, and you’ll discover that the Crystal 280X RGB’s lighting offers a lot more than just R, G and B. The included Lighting Node PRO digital RGB lighting controller is all you need to connect up to six matching CORSAIR RGB fans and four CORSAIR RGB LED lighting strips, illuminating your system with vivid, dynamic RGB lighting.

Available in black or white, the Crystal 280X RGB is also available as the Crystal 280X, equipped with two CORSAIR 120mm cooling fans, for those who’d rather keep a low profile when it comes to their small form factor system.

Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire – A Review (PC)

Back in 2015, developer Obsidian Entertainment created a Kickstarter campaign to fund their new game idea.  This new game would be a spiritual successor to Baldur’s Gate and Planescape: Torment, which happen to be two of my most favorite games of all time.  The Kickstarter campaign raised over $4 million and Obsidian Entertainment introduced us to the world of Eora with Pillars of Eternity.  To my shame, I never picked up the game.  I always meant to, but with other obligations and games coming my way it never got installed onto my PC.  Three years later, Obsidian Entertainment and publisher Versus Evil have released the sequel, Pillars of Eternity II:  Deadfire.  Since I never played the first game, this review will be focused on Pillars of Eternity II:  Deadfire as a stand alone game and whether or not you need to play the first game to truly enjoy the second.

Story

Pillars of Eternity II:  Deadfire picks up five years after the events of Pillars of Eternity.  The god, Eothas, awakens and reanimates a huge statue underneath your stronghold of Caed Nua.  Eothas destroys your stronghold and absorbs the souls of every living person in the area, including a part of yours.  Being mostly dead, you are contacted by the goddess of death, Berath.  You are restored to life and made Berath’s herald, in exchange for being tasked with finding out what Eothas is up to.  Following Eothas to the Deadfire Archipelago, the Watcher and crew are set upon by pirates and stranded on an island, needing to regroup before continuing their task to find and stop Eothas.

Right away, if you haven’t played the first game, you will feel like an outsider who does not know what is going on or who you are.  Pillars of Eternity II:  Deadfire will look for a Pillars of Eternity save file to see what decisions you made in the first game, and will modify the sequel to match.  If you didn’t play the first game, you will need to make some choices and will have no idea of the ramifications of these choices will be.  These choices are all made based on how you feel you would have played the first game, if you had.  What type of character do you think you would have been?  How would you have treated others during game play?

The world of Eora is full of lore and backstory.  If you skipped the first one, like I did, you are in for a steep learning curve in regards to learning and understanding the world around you.  If you played the first game, then the sequel will feel like an extension of the story and gameplay of the first.  I highly recommend playing the first game first, if you have any inclination of playing the second.  With that being said, the story of Pillars of Eternity II:  Deadfire is outstanding.  Characters you meet have depth and feeling, the story progresses well, and is nicely constructed to keep the pace fresh for the length of the game.  But to get the full effect, play the first game before starting the second.

Game Play

Pillars of Eternity II:  Deadfire is an isometric, role playing game in the spirit of Baldur’s Gate.  You play as a Watcher and can customize your character’s look, stats, and class to fit your play style.  You will be accompanied by many companions throughout the game.  These companions will also change, depending on your actions in the first game, if you played it.  You will also have a ship at your disposal. This ship will be how you get to move around Pillars of Eternity II:  Deadfire open world environment, exploring the islands of the Deadfire Archipelago.

The game play of Pillars of Eternity II:  Deadfire is very typical of this type of genre.  Combat is a real-time with pause system, which means everything you do is done in real time but you do have the option to pause combat in order to make a decision or plan your attacks.  Each character has their own set of abilities, inventory, and attacks.  Managing all of this seemed fairly easy to do, especially with the pause option.  Inventory is very typical of a Dungeons and Dragons style rpg, with items that can be dragged into inventory slots, or attached to quick use slots.

Quests are plentiful in Pillars of Eternity II:  Deadfire.  There are the main questline, as well as secondary and tertiary quests to do, and faction quests also to help flesh out the characters you have chosen along the way.  Obsidian Entertainment made sure that each quest felt weighty, and that there wouldn’t be any fetch quests to do.  While not every quest felt as epic, you did feel that each one had a reason to exist in the first place for story, and not just to help padout game play time.

Aesthetics

Pillars of Eternity II:  Deadfire is a gorgeous game!  The art direction helps bring the world of Eora to life with it’s vibrant environments and lush landscapes.  The towns feel lived in and real, yet exotic and new.  The world was interesting and begged to be explored, with dungeons and caverns around each corner.  Character models looked fantastic and truly belonged in this setting.

The voice acting was similarly well done.  Every line in Pillars of Eternity II:  Deadfire is voice acted, you will not have to read a single line of text if you choose not to.  Also, the cast of Geek and Sundry’s podcast, Critical Role, all had a hand in voicing characters in Pillars of Eternity II:  Deadfire.

Final Thoughts

Pillars of Eternity is on many best lists when it comes to an rpg for the PC.  As a huge PC rpg player, I am really ashamed of the fact that I never picked it up and installed it.  Playing Pillars of Eternity II:  Deadfire forced me to finally pick up the first game and install it.  I plan on playing both games now as a different type of character to get a better feel for how the games pair up together.  Even though I didn’t play the first game, I truly enjoyed Pillars of Eternity II:  Deadfire.  The combat is well done and is never boring, the quests all feel like they have purposes, and the world is vibrant and full of lore.  If you want to get the most out of Pillars of Eternity II:  Deadfire,  you have to play the first game first.  If you have already played the first game, then the odds are good that you already have Pillars of Eternity II:  Deadfire  and don’t need me to convince you to buy it.  Pillars of Eternity II:  Deadfire is available now on Steam for $49.99 and Pillars of Eternity is also available for $29.99.  For little more then the cost of an Xbox One game, you can have hours and hours of pure rpg goodness on your PC.

SIG Sauer P320 ASP CO2 Air Pistol Review

One of my favorite things about SIG Sauer is that they like support their products in not only “real steel” versions, but also in air pistol and air soft categories as well. We recently got the chance to take a look at their SIG Sauer P320 ASP CO2 air pistol and had an absolute blast while doing so. Externally, the SIG Sauer P320 ASP CO2 is a beautifully-made recreation of SIG Sauer’s P32o pistol – at least, at first glance. The metal slide and polymer frame have nice weight and the feel is incredible – but, of course, that is because the frame has been modeled after the real steel version of the P320. The ergonomics are incredible and have to be felt to be believed.

Unfortunately, in terms of realistic operation, the SIG Sauer P320 ASP CO2 air pistol does suffer. The ejection port is merely cosmetic, and is simply a depression in the metal slide. The takedown level does nothing, and there is no slide catch system. However, the slide does cycle while shooting, which is nice and offers a slight bit of recoil which helps with your muscle memory. There is a safety located on the left side of the slide, which acts a bit differently than I expected as you can still squeeze the trigger when enabled, however it does not shoot. These air pistols are a great way to practice shooting fundamentals like recoil control while not shooting through hundreds of dollars in real ammunition at a firing range. Plus, you can shoot these in the privacy of your own home or backyard! The SIG Sauer P320 ASP CO2 also features an under barrel rail system for flash lights, lasers, etc which is a nice option should you need them.

Will the real P320 please stand up? (Click to make big)

The SIG Sauer P320 ASP CO2 air pistol holds one magazine with a 30 round capacity and makes use of a rotary belt to cycle through all of the contained BBs or pellets. More to that, the SIG Sauer P320 ASP CO2 air pistol rums on 4.5mm steel BBs or, my personal preference, .177 caliber pellets. Loading the magazine takes a little bit of time but isn’t too bad once you get the hang of it. The GOOD thing about using 4.5mm BB’s instead of the .177 pellets is that they do load a lot easier into the magazine’s rotary belt, but I digress. During our shooting tests, the magazine cycled without issues using both types ammunition, however the pellets seemed to be slightly more accurate than the BBs.

Powering the operation of the SIG Sauer P320 ASP CO2 air pistol is one 12g CO2 cartridge which loads inside the pistol grip. The CO2 loading mechanism is really good in this air pistol. Once the back strap and faux magazine base plate are removed (they simply rotate out), you have access to the CO2 chamber. Built right into the frame of the pistol grip is a rotating bolt that will lock and pierce the CO2 cartridge in-place. I intentionally went through a handful of cartridges during my testing and none of them leaked whatsoever – and that was without any sort of gasket lubrication!

SIG Sauer has crafted a very good recreation of their P320 handgun in this air pistol. While it doesn’t feature some of the realistic features that some air pistol shooters desire, it is an excellent recreation of the P320 pistol with good weight and feel as well as accuracy. Plus, its magazine design works well with both BBs and pellets, so you have some options there. The SIG Sauer P320 ASP CO2 air pistol retails for about $120 dollars and is available now at several online retailers.
