Atari Teams with Fig for Two New Games

NEW YORK, NY (SEPTEMBER 18, 2017– Atari®, one of the world’s most recognized publishers and developers of interactive entertainment via its subsidiary, Vagabond Production Corp., and Fig, the community publisher behind such games as Phoenix Point, Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire and Wasteland 3, today announced a strategic partnership designed to develop and publish two new video games: a reboot of one of Atari’s most beloved intellectual properties and a new IP from Atari.

“Fig is providing a model where gamers not only help to get the titles they are most passionate about funded, but also have the opportunity to share in the financial returns with developers and publishers,” said Fred Chesnais, CEO of Atari. “We’re excited that Fig has opened up the vast potential of crowdfunding to IP holder and publisher alike by changing the narrative and allowing us to partner with our fans.”

“Atari is synonymous with video games. From the early 70s through today, they built the video game industry from the ground up through indelible franchises and groundbreaking consoles,” said Justin Bailey, CEO, Fig. “The gamer community continues to play an ever-expanding role in helping publish games they are passionate about. At Fig, we refer to what we do as community publishing rather than crowdfunding, since a ‘crowd’ is passive, and we’re about much more than just funding. With Fig, the community is active in selecting the public campaigns we run, participating in the funding, getting the word out, playing early builds, and now even profiting like the investors who supported Kingdoms and Castles. The community has become the center of the publishing process, and this partnership provides the rare opportunity to engage with an industry legend in Atari to help publish two IPs, and share in the potential financial success of those games.”

Atari is a multi-platform, global interactive entertainment production company and the original innovator of video gaming. Founded in 1972, Atari owns and manages a portfolio of more than 200 games and franchises, including world renowned brands like Asteroids®, Centipede®, Missile Command®, Pong®,and licenses such as RollerCoaster Tycoon®. Most recently, Atari launched the highly successful game RollerCoaster Tycoon® Touch™, the first RollerCoaster Tycoon® game with 3D graphics on mobile devices. With over 9 million downloads in six months, the game soared to the top of the charts on the App Store and Google Play after a major global feature. As a licensor, Atari extends its brand and franchises into other media, merchandising and publishing categories. Atari is listed on NYSE Euronext Paris stock exchange.

Fig is a community publisher that bring fans together to help Fig publish all kinds of games. Unlike crowdfunding platforms, Fig doesn’t make money from the funding of the games, but instead participates in the financial performance alongside developers and Fig Game Share investors. Fig works with well-known independent studios and up-and-coming indie teams every step of the way, from providing development advances to publishing and distribution support. Fig’s community publishing empowers the video game community with the unique opportunity to support and help publish video games: gamers have the choice to pre-order the game and other perks, and the choice to invest in Fig Game Shares to earn returns based on revenue generated by the video game. These revenues include not just sales from the publishing and distribution of the game but also from advances and buyouts, which can even be generated prior to a game’s launch.

Since its launch in 2015, Fig has hosted three of the top four video game crowdfunding campaigns across all crowdfunding sites.

Middle-earth: Shadow of War Interactive Trailer

September 18, 2017 – Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment today launched a NEW “Campaign That Never Forgets: Friend or Foe” bringing to life the videogame that never forgets, Middle-earth: Shadow of War. Beginning with an interactive live-action film directed by Neil Huxley (Avatar, Watchmen) and shot by Director of Photography, Fabian Wagner (Game of Thrones), the “Campaign That Never Forgets” faithfully recreates the award-winning Nemesis System, driving viewers to make key story decisions during the siege of a fortress in Mordor.

Those decisions then result in a personal relationship with a specific Orc as a loyal ally or vengeful enemy, which will extend beyond the interactive trailer and follow viewers across the internet, emulating the gameplay experience created by the Nemesis System. In Middle-earth: Shadow of War, players now have entirely new ways to journey through the dynamic world, with more choices and opportunities than ever before due to addition of Orc Followers. Whether spared, scarred, recruited or marked, every encounter will be remembered and help fuel the dynamics of society and conflict within Mordor, all brought to life through the expanded Nemesis System.

City of Brass Early Access Launch Trailer

Canberra, 18th Sep 2017: Uppercut Games today announced that City of Brass for Windows is available now on Steam at an introductory price of 19.99 USD for the first week, after which it will revert to 24.99 USD.

Armed with a blade and a whip that can grab, trip, disarm, stun or shatter as well as swing, from today players can lash and slash, trick and trap their way through an opulent procedurally-generated city, making it to each trap-infested level’s exit before the sands of time run out – participating in Daily Challenges and testing their mettle against other players on the Steam Leaderboard.

“The initial Early Access version already has a core experience in place: players can dive into a 12 level campaign with hours of replayability, revealing new enemies in each level, discovering gear and relics, encountering fresh traps and evolving their tactics,” explained Lead Designer Ed Orman. “We’re in Early Access to help us balance and tune the gameplay systems, and we will steadily add more content as we approach Final Release.”

Content and features already planned for the game will take 4-6 months to add in, but given new ideas will be introduced as the game evolves, the overall period in Early Access is expected to be around 6-12 months. More enemy types, bosses, districts, secret areas, gear, relics, genies and traps will be added to the Final Release, and the play overall will be more tuned thanks to the period in Early Access. The final battle (which will be different based on decisions players make as they progress and the strategies they employ) and the mysterious prize at the center of the city, will be held back until the Final Release.

City of Brass is available on Steam here.

City of Brass will be released for PlayStation® 4 systems and Xbox One in 2018 after the Final Release of City of Brass for Windows.

Destiny 2 Celebrates Surpassing Original’s First Week Sales

Santa Monica, CA – September 15, 2017 – Bungie and Activision Publishing, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Activision Blizzard, Inc. (NASDAQ: ATVI), delivered the world-renowned, first-person action game, Destiny 2, to players across the globe on September 6 on PlayStation®4 systems with additional, timed exclusive* content, and Xbox One (PlayStation®Plus or Xbox Live Gold subscription, respectively, required for significant features). The original Destiny became the biggest new console video game franchise launch in history, and Destiny 2 surpassed the original’s records for engagement and digital sales in launch week. This universe will welcome players in on a new platform next month for the first time on PC. Destiny 2 PC is available for pre-order now and is coming October 24 at retail and as the first non-Blizzard game to be offered digitally via Battle.net®, Blizzard Entertainment’s online gaming service.

“With franchise pre-order records broken, and record day-one performance on PlayStation Store, it’s exciting to see engagement at the highest ever week-one concurrency for the franchise. “Destiny 2 is off to a strong start as the #1 console gaming launch week of the year to date,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision. “With the PC version yet to ship, Destiny 2 sets the stage for being one of the biggest video game entertainment events of the year.”

Bungie CEO, Pete Parsons, said, “We hit some great milestones this week with our community.” He added, “We are blown away that we’ve had eight days in a row in Destiny 2 where we’ve seen more than one-million concurrent players grace our worlds. It’s equal parts inspiring and humbling, and we’re looking forward to showing everyone what’s coming next!”

For the third year in a row, Destiny is the #1 console-only game viewed on Twitch by minutes watched. Destiny 2, including its two betas, had more than 600M minutes watched on Twitch before the raid, a fan-favorite, endgame, 6-player gameplay experience started. The raid, called “Leviathan,” went live for players on Sept. 13 and immediately shot to the #1 position on Twitch based on total concurrent viewers.

Destiny 2 takes players on an epic journey across the universe to defend humanity from annihilation. The game welcomes new players to the universe, as well as those who have been devoted to the universe since the beginning, with an array of modes and activities to explore. In the story of Destiny 2, the last safe city on Earth has fallen and lay in ruins, occupied by a powerful new army. Players must master new abilities and weapons to reunite the city’s forces, stand together and fight back to reclaim their home.

In Destiny 2, every player creates their own character called a “Guardian,” humanity’s chosen protectors. Players can choose from playing the cinematic, story campaign, venturing into the expansive destinations to joining in cooperative modes including Strike missions. For competitive players, Destiny 2 offers intense 4v4 multiplayer matches in ‘The Crucible’. An all-new, community-oriented feature to be implemented in Destiny 2 started rolling out on Tuesday, and is called the ‘Guided Games’ system and helps players find groups to team up with to tackle Destiny 2’s most challenging activities.
