Insidious maze at Halloween Horror Nights

ORLANDO, Fla., UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. (July 16, 2015) – This fall, it’s not the maze that’s haunted…YOU ARE.

The twisted minds behind Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood are teaming up with Focus Features and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment to create all-new mazes based on the chilling Insidious film franchise. The announcement comes after the third installment of the film, Insidious: Chapter 3, hit theaters to terrify moviegoers.

At both Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando, event goers will be transported into some of the most sinister scenes from all three films in the Insidious franchise. Guests will investigate unexplained phenomena in the Lambert family’s eerie Victorian home and find themselves at the ghastly séance that unleashes chaos and horror. They’ll journey into “The Further” – a supernatural realm that houses tormented spirits – and face deadly ghosts and demons like the Woman in Black and Red-Faced Demon who will stop at nothing to infiltrate the world of the living.

Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights is the ultimate Halloween event. For more than 20 years, guests from around the world have visited Halloween Horror Nights in Orlando and Hollywood to become victims inside their own horror film. The streets of each coast’s event are transformed into highly-themed scare zones where menacing “scare-actors” lunge from every darkened corner. Multiple movie-quality haunted houses are erected throughout the event, based on anything from iconic slasher films to hit horror television series to haunting original stories.

Additional details about Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights will be revealed soon. For more information about Halloween Horror Nights at either Universal Orlando Resort or Universal Studios Hollywood, visit www.HalloweenHorrorNights.com.

Budapest, Hungary – July 16, 2015  Veteran video game developer NeocoreGames (The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing trilogy, King Arthur) is proud to announce today a totally new action-RPG, Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr, produced in close collaboration with Games Workshop, developers and publishers of the well-known Warhammer 40,000 tabletop game and universe.

Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr is an action-RPG that not only evokes the dystopian world of the dark and violent 41st millennium, but also becomes the next milestone in the evolution of action-RPGs.

Building on the experience gained from The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing action-RPG trilogy, NeocoreGames aims to expand the boundaries of the genre itself by taking the in-game mechanics and visual solutions to a brand new level and also by opening up a persistent sandbox action-RPG.

The single-player campaign pitches players into a grim and secret war among the stars as the agents of the ever-vigilant Inquisition. After the end of the campaign the story continues in a colossal sandbox game set in the same secluded sector of this vast universe. This persistent setting grants years of constant entertainment, gradual development and a continuous flow of content that enriches the action-RPG gameplay.

Coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Mac in 2016, Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr will be a monumental, brutal, and grim experience, undeniably true to the spirit of the Warhammer 40,000 universe.

“There’s a reason why we chose the world of Warhammer 40,000: it’s intense, brutal, visceral – a perfect material for an action RPG,” said Zoltán ‘Pozs’ Pozsonyi, Producer, NeocoreGames. “Working with Games Workshop, we’re doing our best to bring a high quality game to the community. We’re huge fans as well, so we care deeply about this game.”

“A Warhammer 40,000 action RPG has been notably absent from our portfolio of video game licenses so far and it’s great to finally be able to talk publicly about this wonderful game that the guys at Neocore have been working so hard on for some time now,” said Jon Gillard, Head of Licensing, Games Workshop. “Their previous action RPGs are very impressive and we feel privileged to be partnering with them on this game.”

Sound Blaster Roar 2 Bluetooth Speaker Review

Sound Blaster Roar 2 in white and black images

Last year, we had the chance to review Creative Labs Sound Blaster Roar Bluetooth speaker. We gave it some very high marks for its quality and feature set. This year, Creative Labs has released the next iteration in the Roar speaker series: the Sound Blaster Roar 2. When Creative Labs messaged us to see if we wanted to check one of these new speakers out, we jumped at the chance. The Sound Blaster Roar 2 is noticeably smaller than its predecessor – about 20% smaller overall, actually. It even weighs less at 2.2 lbs compared to the Roar’s 2.5 lbs. On a design level, the Roar 2 is attractive wireless speaker that would fit equally-well into either your dorm, hotel room, or home office. It is available in both white and black color schemes and runs on either a plug in adapter or from a powered mini-USB cable (one is provided in the box).

Referring to power, the Sound Blaster Roar 2 has a rechargeable, 6,000 mAh battery that has been rated for up to 8 hours of non-stop play. In our tests, we found that statement to be pretty accurate, with our review unit pooping out just past 7.25 hours (this could have been due to its power level at the start of the test). Additionally, the Roar 2 is usable as a USB battery pack – just in case you need to recharge your devices while on the road.

Roar-2-Product-Guide_01

The Sound Blaster Roar 2 continues the standard of high quality audio laid out by the original Roar, supporting both wireless AAC and aptX codecs. In addition, the Roar 2 boasts the Creative Multipoint technology that allows the speaker to be connected to two Bluetooth devices at the same time – the user switches between the two as they wish. In addition to its Bluetooth connection, the Roar 2 supports NFC devices as well as ones that can connect to it by way of its 3.5mm audio input jack.

Internally, the Roar 2 features two high frequency drivers and one subwoofer unit, and its bass playback capabilities are pretty impressive. Its on-board digital signal processor is capable of using two nifty bits of Creative Labs tech – the ROAR and TeraBass modes. In ROAR mode, the overall output of the speaker is increased. Creative Labs claims this is to help fill the room with sound in the case of a party, presentation, etc. This mode works well, although I did notice that the bass sometimes got a bit distorted depending on the song being played. TeraBass is a really cool feature which counteracts the perceived loss of bass during low volume playback. Most importantly is that it is said not to over-accentuate bass levels in doing so. The TeraBass mode is what I preferred listening to music streamed from my iPhone with as it helps “fill in the gaps” missing with compressed digital music. Of course, the Roar 2 also features a micro SD card reader, built-in audio recorder, MP3 player, and speakerphone function – all of which you will find a use for at some point.

Roar-2-Product-Guide_02

[ezcol_1half]The Good

  • High quality wireless audio
  • Clear highs and room-filling bass
  • TeraBass feature sounds incredible

[/ezcol_1half] [ezcol_1half_end]The Bad

  • Roar bass boost mode can get distorted based on audio being played
  • Its biggest improvement over the original is its smaller size

[/ezcol_1half_end]

Overall, the Creative Labs Sound Blaster Roar 2 Bluetooth speaker continues the high quality journey started by the original Sound Blaster Roar. It has all of the bells and whistles of its predecessor in a 20% smaller package – perfect for taking it on the go. However, if you already own the original Sound Blaster Roar, you might want to think twice about purchasing the new one unless its smaller size is something you need. The Sound Blaster Roar 2 retails for $329 dollars but, if you head over to Sound Blaster’s official product page, you can find it on sale for $229.

Warhammer – End Times Vermintide Needs Help Naming Sword

warhammer-great-sword-competition

STOCKHOLM, Sweden – July 14th, 2015 – Independent developer Fatshark announced today that they want help from the community with the upcoming co-op action game Warhammer – End Times Vermintide.

“We have a billboard at Fatshark where everybody in the staff can suggest a name for the various weapons in Vermintide. We’ve gotten some great suggestions for most of our weapons, but for some reason, this specific Great Sword has remained unnamed.” says Martin Wahlund, CEO Fatshark. “Instead of going with one of the names on the board, we’ve therefore decided to start from scratch with your help. What would you call this Great Sword?”

The best name submitted, and decided by Fatshark, will be the official name of the Great Sword in the game. Furthermore, the person suggesting that name will end up in the credits of Vermintide and also a copy of the game.

The community can suggest their ideas for a weapon name at: http://vermintide.com/thesword/

In Vermintide, the city of Ubersreik is under siege as players select from a band of five heroes with different play-styles and abilities, all equipped with unique gear and personalities. Working together cooperatively, players must use their individual attributes to survive an apocalyptic invasion from hordes of relentless, power hungry Skaven, across a range of environments stretching from the top of the Magnus Tower to the bowels of the Under Empire.
