Today’s Capcom Showcase provided a glimpse at the latest releases coming from the storied publisher. The digital broadcast unveiled new updates on upcoming and recently released titles, including the latest dinosaur forecast on Exoprimal™ unveiling its second Open Beta Test, and a closer look at the puzzling mysteries of Ghost Trick™: Phantom Detective. The Capcom Showcase also announced multiple titles including the alluring Japan-inspired world of Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, the return of Machiavellian courtroom machinations in Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney™ Trilogy, and a data dive into the world of Mega Man™ X DiVE Offline. Exoprimal Summons New Open Beta, PvE Challenge Mode, and Exosuit Variants

Suit up, Exofighters! Today’s dinosaur forecast revealed that a second Exoprimal Open Beta Test is imminent. The online team-based action returns Thursday, June 15 at 5:00pm PDT – Sunday, June 18 at 4:59pm PDT across Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Steam. The Open Beta Test 2 includes new elements, including 10-player co-op missions and story content that provides a more in-depth look at the ever-changing main game mode, Dino Survival. Open Beta Test 2 participants will also qualify to receive the “Flash” Zephyr skin as special bonus item in the full game.

The Capcom Showcase debuted the first glimpse of a new Exosuit variant, the Deadeye Alpha: Burst Fire. Director Takuro Hiraoka also introduced a special co-op mode, Savage Gauntlet, which challenges teams of five players with PvE missions that rotate weekly. Beyond survival, teams can compete with other squads around the world for fastest completion times. First Gameplay Details for Dragon’s Dogma 2

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Director Hideaki Itsuno joined the Capcom Showcase to provide a deeper look at combat, Pawns, and gameplay systems for the hotly anticipated action-RPG. The vocations players choose shape whether they tackle foes with swords at their side or magick incantations, and varied elements such as terrain and enemies create dynamic combat scenarios throughout the game. AI-controlled Pawns return from the original Dragon’s Dogma™ and accompany players throughout their journey to form a party of up to four characters. In addition to customizing their Arisen, players can also personalize their main Pawn, who can in turn be recruited by other players’ Arisen to borrow their skills and knowledge. What Pawns learn through these experiences will be reflected in their behavior, making them worthy player companions.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 harnesses the power of the RE ENGINE to create a world map about four times the size of the original Dragon’s Dogma that is densely populated with enemies, events, and locations rendered with the latest graphical technology. The environment is complemented by immersive physics and character AI that brings Pawns, monsters, and NPCs to life. Pawns organically guide players to new locations, dynamically cooperate during battle, and even react to special moments such as celebrating narrow victories with high-fives. Monsters new and old encourage players to devise numerous strategies to succeed in combat, or even avoid it all together. NPCs, such as the bow-wielding Ulrika who has a deep connection to the Arisen, or the high priestess of the beastren Nadinia, will form intricate relationships with the Arisen that set the stage for nuanced story moments.

Hot on the heels of last week’s Summer Game Fest – which revealed award-winning actor Jason Isaacs in the role of Baldur’s Gate 3’s second major villain – at today’s PC Gaming Show, Larian Studios provided players their first look at the iconic Forgotten Realms city of Baldur’s Gate in decades.

Opening on an image of the sprawling waters of the Chionthar River, in-game footage reveals a fully next-gen reimagining of this iconic fantasy setting while the development team discusses the daunting undertaking of recreating Baldur’s Gate for a modern RPG.

The city of Baldur’s Gate is a metropolis of labyrinthine streets, with alleys, temples, and crowded public houses teeming with life, and stories woven into the lives of every local you encounter.

Baldur’s Gate is back and bigger than ever

“We can put lots more of the city on screen than we could in 1998,” narrative design expert Lawrence Schick explains, “We can do something that is more immersive, richer, has more texture to it.”

The city itself is also bigger than any iteration of this setting that’s come before it. The streets – which span the menacing roads of the Outer City, the opulent estates of the Upper City, and the dark alleys of the Lower City – are populated with a rich cast of characters, each possessing their own untold stories, well-kept secrets, and personal reactions.

“You have crowds that are walking around everywhere. You can talk to pretty much anybody, and they react to every single thing,” says Swen Vincke, creative director at Larian Studios. “It’s very alive in that sense.”

“One of the things that’s done is it’s added this level of believability and immersion and also complexity that wouldn’t have been there otherwise,” adds associate writing lead Chrystal Ding. “It feels like you are walking around a place where there are lots and lots of people living their actual lives.”

Larian originally prototyped Baldur’s Gate as a series of smaller contained regions connected by teleports, but mid-way into developing the city, decided to make some major changes.

“[Swen] said, like, can’t we just connect everything?” reminisces world building director Farhang Namdar. “And that was an interesting day.”

Come launch, players will be stepping foot in a Baldur’s Gate made up of three seamless open world districts. No matter if you’re investigating underground crypts, wandering the chambers of a towering citadel, or descending into hidden cellars, there will be no visible loading screens to interrupt your experience.

“We spent I think three times, four times more effort on the city than we originally planned to, but the result, the feeling of walking in there, is just fantastic,” says Vincke. “So, the thing that I was the most afraid of when we started making this game turned out to be the thing that I’m the most proud of.”

Players can experience the city for themselves when Baldur’s Gate 3 releases on PC & PS5 on August 31, 2023.

CD PROJEKT RED released a new video today covering the latest trailer for Phantom Liberty, the upcoming spy-thriller expansion to Cyberpunk 2077, with keen developer insight into the new adventure’s story and setting.

In the video, Narrative Director of Phantom Liberty Igor Sarzyński, together with Senior Communication Manager Paweł Burza go over key scenes of the trailer as they watch it, discussing the events, characters, and locations presented for the first time during the Xbox Games Showcase, including the real-life and genre inspirations behind some of them — all from a set styled after one of the locales players will explore in Phantom Liberty.

In Phantom Liberty, players once again take on the role of V, a cyberpunk for hire, as they embark on a mission to save the President of the New United States of America after her orbital shuttle is shot down over the deadliest district of Night City — Dogtown. With less than a week before the global release of Layers of Fear (2023), Bloober Team and Anshar Studios debuted a new, cinematic story trailer at the Future Games Show today, depicting the story of The Writer, the recently introduced a new protagonist in the series. Hers is a harrowing tale that ties each entry in the series together. Showcasing a mysterious lighthouse and alluding to past horrors, this trailer invites players to gain a glimpse of the terrors that await them when the game launches on June 15th for Windows PCs, Mac and current generation console hardware.

Layers of Fear (2023) is a tribute to fans of the series both new and old. HEXWORKS, a CI Games studio, are granting fans their closest look yet at the vast and treacherous worlds of its upcoming, dark-fantasy action-RPG, Lords of the Fallen, with a spectacular new gameplay showcase video. Built in Unreal Engine 5, the highly anticipated title launches Friday 13th October, and is available to pre-order now on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Focusing on one of the title’s most anticipated mechanics, the feature provides all-new details, alongside never-before-seen gameplay, on how the dual worlds of Lords of the Fallen function. Players will need to explore not one, but two expansive environments when adventuring through the savage lands of Mournstead; Axiom, the realm of the living, and Umbral, the realm of the dead.

EVE Online Viridian Expansion Features Trailer

Today, CCP Games revealed that Viridian, the next major expansion for spacefaring MMO EVE Online, will launch on June 13, 2023. The release date was revealed during a livestream hosted by EVE Online Creative Director Bergur Finnbogason and Game Director Snorri Árnason, marking the conclusion of the Viridian in Focus series.

During the livestream, CCP gave pilots a first look at what to expect with the expansion in a special gameplay feature tour. Check out the Viridian feature tour video here:

Viridian is dedicated to empowering and growing EVE Online’s player-driven corporations. The expansion adds expanded toolsets for efficient group management, additional ways to personalize player-owned structures, new Lancer Dreadnaughts to build and fly, and enhanced visuals.

Tekken 8 Closed Network Test Registration Now Open

Leading video game publisher and developer Bandai Namco Entertainment America Inc. today announced that TEKKEN™8, the next entry in the legendary franchise, will conduct Closed Network Tests (CNT) across consoles and PC. Registration is open now for interested testers, with sessions set to take place starting July 21, 2023. TEKKEN 8 is coming exclusively to PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam®.

Developed by Bandai Namco Studios Inc., TEKKEN 8 promises to be the most visually stunning and visceral TEKKEN™ title yet. The game is introducing major new changes to combat that include a new “aggressive” fight system that encourages an offense-first play style, keeping the action at a high level by rewarding players who stay on the attack. Another first for the series is cross play, raising the level of competition by allowing players to fight each other regardless of which platform they prefer. With the upcoming CNT, players are invited to experience “Ranked Matches” and play a part in helping influence key game mechanics and features coming to the sequel.

The TEKKEN 8 CNT will feature online head-to-head competitive play with cross-platform matching. Testers will be able to choose from 16 playable characters including those previously revealed, with Jin, Kazuya, Jun, Paul, Law, King, Lars, Jack 8, Xiaoyu, Nina, Leroy, Lili, Asuka, Hwoarang, and Bryan, along with a new fighter made available for the CNT: Claudio. There will be five available stages with Urban Square, Yakushima, Rebel Hangar, Sanctum, and Arena.

Testing will take place across two different sessions, with a Week 1 CNT on PlayStation 5 only, and a Week 2 CNT across all three available platforms including Xbox Series X|S and PC. There is no required subscription to Xbox Live Gold or PlayStation®Plus to participate. Testers will be asked to fill out an online survey sent to the email they use to register. Dates and session times for the TEKKEN 8 CNT are as follows:

Week 1 – PlayStation 5 only
- July 21st 1:00 a.m. ～ July 24th 12:00 a.m. PDT
- (CNT not playable due to maintenance on July 21st from 1:00 ~ 4:00 p.m. PDT)
Week 2 – PlayStation®5、XBOX Series X|S, and PC via Steam
- July 28th starting at 1:00 a.m. to July 31st 12:00 a.m. PDT
- (CNT not playable due to maintenance on July 29th from 1:00 – 4:00 a.m. PDT)

Players who register for Week 1 tests on PlayStation 5 will also be able to participate in Week 2 sessions.
