MERGE Unveils 6DoF Blaster at CES 2018

Las Vegas, NV – January 7, 2017  |  MERGE, the leader in mobile virtual and augmented reality for kids and creators of the award-winning MERGE Cube and MERGE Goggles, unveils today its MERGE 6DoF Blaster, a new breakthrough product that seamlessly blends the digital space with the real world without a VR headset. MERGE knocks down barriers for diving into VR by removing the need for a headset and allowing users to explore handheld virtual reality by docking their smartphone into the Blaster.

The MERGE 6DoF (6 Degrees of Freedom) Blaster uses sophisticated positional tracking technology that allows users to maneuver around virtual worlds by moving, ducking and jumping in the real world.

“What we’ve created is an intuitive and accessible virtual reality product and platform for the mass market. We can deliver a high-end, positionally tracked VR experience and put it in a form factor that’s easy to use,” says MERGE Founder Franklin Lyons. “MERGE 6DoF Blaster is a breakthrough product that will make virtual reality more practical for users and great for developers to build innovative gaming experiences.”

MERGE will open the MERGE 6DoF Blaster SDK to developers everywhere to build handheld VR/AR experiences. The Blaster features four physical action buttons, giving developers a rich toolset for building complex, interactive applications. Dev kits are expected to be available sometime in early 2018.

MERGE is also releasing the MERGE 6DoF Blaster manufacturing specs so manufacturers can create their own Blaster-compatible products. Products that meet the criteria will work with the MERGE ecosystem and be supported by content from developers and game studios around the world.

“Our blaster uses technology that makes all previous VR/AR blasters obsolete, so companies interested in creating their own will want to make them MERGE-compatible,” said MERGE VP of Creative Jeremy Kenisky. “This is great opportunity for manufacturers, because their customers will have access to a wide range of content, and it’s great for developers because their software will reach a larger audience.” Kenisky continued, “This arrangement works well for consumers, too, because it solves all compatibility issues. Any MERGE-compatible blaster they buy will work with all the content available.”

The MERGE 6DoF Blaster is expected to hit retail shelves this summer.

The company will also unveil MERGE Mini – a small, lightweight, marshmallow-soft VR/AR headset designed for kids ages 10 and up – at CES 2018. MERGE took all of the best features of their original award-winning Goggles to create Mini, which is designed to fit smaller hands and faces while still being comfortable for everyone. Compatible with most recent iOS and Android smartphones, MERGE Mini is the perfect introduction to virtual and augmented reality, and will retail for less than $30 (Summer 2018).

MERGE will also spotlight the recently launched MERGE Miniverse (www.MINIVERSE.io), a guide to virtual and augmented worlds. With hundreds of curated apps and experiences to choose from, Miniverse is the best place for users to experience the future of games, 360º video, educational apps, holographic toys and more. Each experience on Miniverse is tested by MERGE’s team of experts for quality, age rating, and motion intensity.

The bloody-fun, next-gen spiritual successor to the 1993 Sega Genesis classic Mutant League Football will invade the Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, and spark new debates about soft balls, shotgun hits, and proper decapitation protocol.

Football fans and gamers will experience deep strategic 7-on-7 gameplay, bone-crunching and tooth-shattering hits, plus a roster of comical ghouls delivering tongue-through-cheek humor. Oh, and-of course-blood. Lots of blood.

Mutant Football League features legendary voice-over actor Tim Kitzrow; best known for his work in one of the great classic sports games of all time, NBA Jam, with such memorable sound bites as “He’s on fire!” and “Boomshakalaka!” A few MFL refs were bribed to guarantee the commentary of Mutant Football League on PS4 and Xbox One remained as foul-mouthed as the original smash hit PC version. It’s like Conker’s Bad Fur Day for sports fans! However, don’t worry… there is an option to turn off the expletives in case small children or Republican senators are in the room.

DC in D.C. Event Announced for MLK Holiday Weekend

BURBANK, Calif. (January 4, 2018) — DC fans in the Washington, D.C. area are in for a treat when DC’s greatest Super Heroes arrive for DC in D.C. on Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday weekend. In addition to panel discussions, screenings and more, Warner Bros. Television Group (WBTVG) and DC Entertainment are sponsoring a limited-time DC in D.C. Pop-Up Shop that will be open Friday, January 12–Sunday, January 14, 2018, in front of the Newseum.

Newseum, located in the heart of Pennsylvania Avenue midway between the Capitol and the White House, will be the center of DC in D.C.’s Friday’s screening and Saturday’s panel sessions. It will also be the location of the exclusive, limited-time DC Pop-Up Shop. Featuring the world’s greatest graphic novels, the fully heated store will be situated directly in front of the Newseum building at 555 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, D.C.

A fully transportable, high-tech container space that measures 40 feet by 10 feet, the DC Pop-Up Shop will not only support a DC merchandise shop, charging stations and a free Jitters coffee bar, but will also feature interactive displays covering the history of DC — from its earliest origins to the television powerhouses that those Super Heroes represent today. And even though it’s cold outside, the Pop-Up Shop is fully heated. Features of the DC Pop-Up Shop include the following:

  • Graphic Novels for Sale: Available for purchase at the Pop-Up Shop will be the Top 50 Greatest DC graphic novels of all-time. Among the many titles will be fan-favorites and cult classics such as The Death of Superman, V for Vendetta, Watchmen, The Killing Joke, Crisis on Infinite Earths and more. Also available will be a collection of books for young readers (ages 10 and above), including Teen Titans and DC Super Hero Girls.
  • Giant Comic Panels: On both sides of the shop will be a series of two dozen 7-by-4-foot flip panels featuring Titan-sized reproductions of some of the most iconic comic-book covers in history. Not only a fantastic photo opportunity, but fans will have the ability to flip their way through the history of DC and how comics are made. There’s even a behind-the-scenes look at the production process with the “How to Build a Hero” station. Imagine standing face-to-face with Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and more as they look out from life-sized comic books! Both educational in their scope, they also provide a wealth of social media interaction with Instagrammable moments from the history of comics.

Poundmaker was a highly skilled bison caller – a man who drew bison into pounds – and greatly respected among his people. He was also recognized as an outstanding orator and went on to become a great leader.

His commitment to a lasting, just peace between the Cree and the government was born of foresight and dignity. During his life he had served as a personal agent of peace to end war between First Nations. His legacy is now honored among both the Cree and Canadians today.

HP Omen X 35-inch Curved Gaming Display Review

HP’s Omen gaming line of computers and peripherals has become quite the conversation piece thanks to its sleek, dark future design ideology. Recently, we got to check out their Omen X 35-inch curved gaming monitor, and I was simply amazed. We have gotten our hands on some other curved displays in the past and been very pleased – however, just looking at the Omen X 35 once unboxed and setup on our desk was impressive.

It features a thin, black bezel, classy OMEN text at the bottom center of the monitor, and an understated Nvidia G-Sync logo at the bottom right. Its control buttons are located along the bottom right edge of the display and are fairly easy to navigate – especially with the on-screen prompts which pop up as you press the side buttons. On the back of the Omen X 35, you’ll find HDMI, DisplayPort, USB 3.0, and USB 3.0 upstream ports, all fairly easy to reach when setting it all up. The bottom of the monitor features an RGB lighting system that can be adjusted via the control buttons on the right, and features something I have not seen yet on a gaming display. Aside from the usual cycle and solid color modes, you can set the Omen X 35’s light to whatever the ambient color on the screen is at the time! I have seen lighting systems like this on large TV displays, but never on a PC gaming monitor – it is a pretty cool effect! They also have a “work light” mode which simply displays a low-lumen white light which is nice for working at your desk without a large desk lamp available.

In terms of adjusting the display itself, the Omen X 35 is somewhat rigid in that area. You can easily adjust the height of the monitor up and down, but it does not feature a swivel left or ride range of motion. This is because of how the monitor stand is constructed. Going for that sleek, dark-future look, the monitor stand is very thin, being only a half and inch thick when looking at it straight-on. Of course, it is thicker than that when viewed from the side as it has to support the weighty display, but its minimal cross section allows for less distraction and more of a “floating display” appearance from the front. Unfortunately, this does not allow for the previously-mentioned swivel. Thankfully, swiveling the entire monitor is not difficult thanks to the distribution of weight on the monitor base.

Being the Fallout fan I am, I first tried the monitor out with Fallout 4. I have downloaded many of the HD texture and lighting mods for the game, so I was extremely impressed with how it ran. Next up on my list was a faster game – Battlefront II, which was also very impressive, and the ultra wide resolution and screen real estate felt like having two regular displays side by side, but without that annoying center bezel that multi-monitor gamers are all too familiar with. Also a bonus is that you can get better performance with one ultra wide monitor instead of two or three regular displays as you can set your video card to single display performance mode – an added bonus. Another feature of the Omen X 35 that gets overlooked in many reviews I have seen is that its 2500:1 contrast ratio – an impressive ratio.

Overall, the Omen X 35-inch curved display is a gamer’s dream. Not only is its 100Hz refresh rate blazing fast but, when coupled with Nvidia’s G-SYNC technology you will not be subject to any discernible ghosting or trails as you jump around the battlefield. Also, it has a reasonable price point (in this display category) of a little more than $900 dollars in most online retailers. If you have the money to spend, you will not be disappointed with the Omen X 35-inch curved gaming monitor.

Knott’s Berry Farm Announces NYE 2017 Plans

BUENA PARK, CA (December 2017) – The countdown to the New Year is on at Knott’s Merry Farm with  midnight fireworks, live entertainment, and special extended hours for the one-night event. Guests can say goodbye to 2017 as the park celebrates with memorable festivities including Knott’s Merry Farm seasonal performances throughout the day on December 31st. The Knott’s New Year’s Eve celebration gives guests front row seats to the final Seasons of Fun event, of year as the park rings in 2018 with a park wide party unlike any other.

The New Year’s celebration features entertaining activities for the whole family including a family-friendly comedian Chipper Lowell, live bands throughout the park, salsa lessons and more.
