World of Warships Update Brings Dirigibles, Super Carriers, and Pan-Asian Cruisers

Wargaming, publisher and developer of the naval multiplayer free-to-play game World of Warships, has announced the details of its latest update with new ships, an all-new battle type and a long-awaited nation.

New Super Aircraft Carriers

Jet planes on the horizon! Not one, but two new Super Aircraft Carriers are entering World of Warships, celebrating both British and US naval powers. The Eagle hails from the British Navy, which housed some of the most advanced deck-based aircraft of the 1950s, including jet aircraft. The United States has been recreated in the game based on original unfinished plans from 1949, giving players a glimpse of what could have been. Both ships carry two types of squadrons: standard and an all-new tactical squadron. These very fast jet-propelled aircraft can quickly cover substantial distances and carry out lightning-fast attacks against enemy ships.

Dirigible Derby

In the newest update, players can also dive into a brand-new temporary game mode: Dirigible Derby. This will see teams of 12 facing off in a Tier X ship showdown, escorting these iconic airships to their destinations. Based on historic tactical warfare, where important diplomats would be escorted to conduct secret negotiations in neutral territories, players can get a feel for high-stakes missions first-hand. Those who can outrun their opponents and deliver their dirigible first will be victorious.

Pan-Asian Cruisers

The all new Pan-Asian Cruisers will continue their steady course in Early Access, with the Rahmat and Harbin all available for Pan-Asia Tokens while Jinan and the Sejong available for doubloons. Port Dragon has also been updated to celebrate this release, with access to a special combat mission to unlock a unique commemorative flag.

Personal Challenges and the Mediterranean event: Spain enters the fray!

From the launch of Update 0.11.1, players will be able to take part in Personal Challenges, to earn the most XP possible while mixing up different ship types and nations. As a reward of this Mediterranean themed event, players can receive two tier VI ships, the Spanish heavy cruiser Canarias which will be the first of the Spanish ships in game, and the long awaited cruiser Dido from the Royal Navy.

In celebration of the launch of Legacy of the Sith and 10 years of Star Wars storytelling through the game’s action-packed CG trailers, BioWare and Lucasfilm Games have collaborated on a new cinematic launch trailer setting the stage for the events of the expansion. The Legacy of the Sith launch trailer introduces a new Jedi Padawan, Sa’har Kateen, who must face off against the traitorous Darth Malgus and the events of her past in order to stop the rogue Sith Lord from taking his sinister plan into its next phase.

“At the heart of Star Wars: The Old Republic is BioWare’s best-in-class RPG storytelling which gives players the uncanny ability to live out their very own Star Wars story during a truly epic time in the galaxy,” said Charles Boyd, Creative Director on Star Wars: The Old Republic at BioWare. “Alongside an incredible community and the Lucasfilm Games team, we’ve invested the last 10 years growing and evolving the game and its story into a unique, fully customizable and sprawling Star Wars journey. Baldur’s Gate 3 Adds Barbarians in Patch 7

During today’s Panel From Hell: 5th Edition live show, Baldur’s Gate 3’s seventh major patch – Absolute Frenzy – was revealed, heralding the arrival of the playable Barbarian class and the introduction of the soon-to-be world-famous sport of goblin-tossing (AKA Improvised Weapons), alongside many other additions, changes and fixes that march Baldur’s Gate 3 further down the path toward 1.0. Patch 7 opens up new ways to approach adventuring in Faerun, like a fog of war mechanic that obfuscates unexplored rooms, and tweaks to Darkvision and light/dark detection that make for much more effective stealth gameplay. The full patch notes will be available on Steam with a more in-depth look at what’s changed, but below are some highlights.

Patch 7: Absolute Frenzy will be available to Baldur’s Gate 3 players later today. In the meantime, catch the Panel From Hell: 5th Edition VOD on our YouTube and Twitch channels for smashing good fun:

  • New Class: Barbarian
    • Merciless in the heat of battle, fueled by nature’s fury, and boasting chaos energy louder than a thousand reality TV stars combined, Barbarians are the latest class to join Baldur’s Gate 3.
    • Two subclasses:
      • Wildheart Barbarians choose a Bestial Heart to inspire, protect and guide them, receiving different combat abilities and facial piercings depending on their choice.
      • Berserker Barbarians pull from a reservoir of pure fury, turning their Rage into a Frenzy that grants two new bonus actions – Enraged Throw wreaks additional damage to enemies and inflicts the prone status, and Frenzied Strike allows Berserkers to attack twice using a bonus action like Improvised Weapon.
  • Improvised Weapons: Almost anything has the potential to become a deadly projectile to be hurled at your foes! Improvised Weapons do damage based on their weight, and characters can wield an Improvised Weapon that weighs up to three times their Strength ability score. In short, this means with a high enough Strength stat, you can use something as big as a Mindflayer as a tool for thwacking your foes – although we don’t think he’d like it.
  • Thrown Weapons: Patch 7 also adds throwable Daggers, Javelins, Handaxes, and Spears that allow you to attack from a distance, making melee combat feel more dynamic.
  • Total UI Overhaul: Patch 7 includes a total overhaul of Baldur’s Gate 3’s HUD UI, making it slicker, streamlined, and easier to use.
  • Stealth & Exploration: Improving exploration in Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of the cornerstones of this patch. We want to ensure that as you explore, the surprises that are waiting around the corner stay just that: a surprise!
    • Light & Dark: We’ve improved how light and dark areas are detected, meaning you’re less likely to miss when in daylight and hiding from NPCs is more precisely affected by the darkness around you.
    • Darkvision: Improved visualization means that characters using Darkvision won’t see a brightly lit room, but will instead see in the dark via a cone of vision effect.
    • Room Portals: Blackened barriers that cover the doors of unexplored rooms and conceal the characters and objects within them.
  • New Magic Loot: We’ve placed a fresh batch of Magic Loot throughout the world, ranging from helmets and gloves to lightning-charged tridents, each granting its owner an impressive stat boost, buff, or additional perk.
  • Upgraded Cinematics: We’ve improved nearly 700 cutscenes – upgrading visuals, tweaking characters, adding and enhancing animations, and improving pacing.

Community Feedback, Early Access & 1.0

We’ve listed some of the highlights here, but the full patch notes will be available once the patch goes live – a whopping twelve pages of them, with asterisks noting changes and fixes that were the direct result of feedback from the Baldur’s Gate 3 community.

Early Access continues to be a key part of Larian’s development process, allowing us to iterate and improve with feedback from our players to make the best game possible.

Our internal goal post for release is a quality bar rather than a date. A ton of progress has been made towards that quality bar over the past year in Early Access, but we know many players are waiting for an actual date. That date will come when we’re even closer to meeting our goal, but right now our expectation is that Baldur’s Gate 3 will be released out of Early Access in 2023.

Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers Gets First Trailer and Poster

Today, Disney+ released the first trailer and a new poster for the original movie “Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers.” A comeback 30 years in the making, the hybrid live-action/CG animated action-comedy catches up with the former Disney Afternoon television stars in modern-day Los Angeles. “Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers” premieres May 20, 2022, exclusively on Disney+.

“Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers” stars John Mulaney (“Saturday Night Live”) as Chip, Andy Samberg (“Palm Springs”) as Dale and KiKi Layne (“If Beale Street Could Talk”). Also joining the cast are Will Arnett (“Arrested Development”), Eric Bana (“Dirty John”), Flula Borg (“Pitch Perfect 2”), Dennis Haysbert (“24”), Keegan-Michael Key (“Schmigadoon!”), Tress MacNeille (“The Simpsons”), Tim Robinson (“I Think You Should Leave”), Seth Rogen (“Pam and Tommy”), J.K. Simmons (“Being the Ricardos”), Chris Parnell (“Saturday Night Live”). The film is directed by Akiva Schaffer (“Saturday Night Live”), written by Dan Gregor and Doug Mand (“Crazy Ex-Girlfriend”) and is produced by Todd Lieberman (“Wonder”) and David Hoberman (“Beauty and the Beast”), with Alexander Young (“Extinction”) and Tom Peitzman serving as executive producers.

In “Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers,” Chip and Dale are living amongst cartoons and humans in modern-day Los Angeles, but their lives are quite different now. It has been decades since their successful television series was canceled, and Chip (voice of Mulaney) has succumbed to a life of suburban domesticity as an insurance salesman. Dale (voice of Sandberg), meanwhile, has had CGI surgery and works the nostalgia convention circuit, desperate to relive his glory days. When a former cast mate mysteriously disappears, Chip and Dale must repair their broken friendship and take on their Rescue Rangers detective personas once again to save their friend’s life.

RUGBY 22 Review – A Flawed Experience

Rugby is a game that has not received nearly as much video game representation has other sports such as football and baseball – and that’s a shame. Rugby began in 19th century England and, as of 2014, there were still 6 million players around the globe! NACON and Eko Software released their first rugby title, Rugby 18, in 2018. Unfortunately, that title did not score well with critics overall but then they released Rugby 20 and scores improved somewhat. Now, in 2022, they have launched the latest version of the game: Rugby 22. Can this upward momentum of review scores continue? Will this be the best iteration of video game rugby yet? Read on, dear reader, to find out!

Gameplay

Rugby has a lot of rules and terms and, if you’re not versed in the sport or familiar with them, you would be best to do some research before playing Rugby 22. I would suggest going on YouTube, taking a half hour and watching some “Rugby for Dummies” videos to familiarize yourself with the game. If you’re someone who is not familiar with rugby, Rugby 22 is not the easiest thing to play in terms of understanding what’s actually going on. Rugby 22’s tutorial doesn’t do a good job of explaining all the rules, game controls, or gameplay mechanics and I think that would be a big boon to Rugby 22 playability and fun – especially for new players – if it did!

Rugby 22 offers four game modes: Quick Match, Online Match, Career, and League. Quick Match allows you to play, as the name suggests, a quick match between teams. Online Match allows players to play games online against other human beings. The Career game mode allows you to build a custom team and play them against AI or another human player (we’ll get more into custom teams later). Finally, we have the League mode, which allows you to chose a pre-existing team and play them through a full season.

The game’s career mode is lacking in so many ways that it should not even be called such a thing. It is much more aptly called a “Custom Team Mode” or something to that effect. There are no real career mode style options to be found anywhere in the mode. Training, organizational, and logistical decisions are nowhere to be found. Putting together your custom team is also tedious, as you collect player cards through the course of gameplay in the other modes. You can’t actually create a player from scratch, so you’re a slave to unlocking player cards to add those players to your custom team.

Actually controlling your players during a match is difficult (primarily because many of the controls are not explained well or at all) but, even after you get to know your way around the gamepad, pulling off moves and the various tactical options available to your players is tough, but not impossible. A lot of the game’s focus in on “Running Rugby”, a play style where teams will keep the ball passing from player to player in order to move as fast and nimbly as possible. When I actually pulled off something I intended to do, I felt accomplished in doing so – a rewarding experience. However, there is a lot of tedium to be found, especially early-on.

Team AI leaves a lot to be desired (especially at lower difficulty levels) and I was shocked several times just how defenseless my team’s defensive line would leave areas of the pitch undefended. There is a commentary throughout matches but I found it to be awkward and, at times, mistimed with what was going on in the game.

Visuals and Audio

Unfortunately, in the visuals category, Rugby 22 really suffers. The game’s graphics shader by itself is not great and there are a lot of letdowns here that could have been avoided. A large lack of variety of character models exists, and their animations are not nearly as smooth as I like to see in a sports title – especially one where the emphasis is on movement and contact between players. Also, it seems like players are moving way faster than humans actually move around the pitch. It could just be a bug, but it was distracting. Also, game textures tend to be somewhat flat and bland. Thankfully, Rugby 22’s audio is decent, with plenty of sounds from around the pitch.

Overall

Overall, Rugby 22 is the best of the NACON/Eko Software Rugby series. That being said, they still have a ways to go before I would recommend it to someone who is unfamiliar with the sport or, in general, is a casual sports gamer. If you are a knowledgeable rugby fan with a good deal of patience to learn the game’s controls (through trial and error), you will find Rugby 22 enjoyable, eventually. The game is out now on consoles and PC. NACON/Eko Software provided GamingShogun.com a PC code for use in this review.
