Sci-fi Thriller Ontos Announced at The Game Awards 2025

Video games publisher and creative studio Kepler Interactive and Frictional Games, the independent developer known for SOMA, and the Penumbra and Amnesia series, have today revealed their newest project, ONTOS, a sci-fi mystery thriller coming to PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S next year. Featuring Golden Globe winner Stellan Skarsgård within its talented cast, ONTOS has been developed as a spiritual successor to the critically acclaimed SOMA by the talented Swedish development team, bringing their immersive gameplay systems and unrivalled storytelling and worldbuilding to the next level.

Watch the ONTOS Announcement trailer here:

In ONTOS, players will become Aditi Amani, a resourceful engineer, as she explores the repurposed moon hotel Samsara in search of the truth around her estranged father. Samsara is a vast labyrinth built atop the ruins of a failed mining colony, and players will explore this open, interconnected environment in their quest for the truth. Every corner of Samsara tells a story, and every story has something hiding beneath the surface, waiting to be found…

Players will scavenge for helpful items, manipulate intricate machinery and face intense tests of morality as they encounter horrific Experiments throughout Samsara. There is no ‘one solution’ to the obstacles players will encounter in ONTOS. Players will need to use their wits and ingenuity to reach the narrative’s mysterious conclusions and face the consequences of their choices.

“After more than 10 years of development it is incredibly exciting to finally announce ONTOS. This is easily our most ambitious project yet in terms of scope, production values and sheer thematic ambitions,” says Thomas Grip, creative director and co-founder of Frictional Games. “Where SOMA tackled consciousness, ONTOS aims to do the same thing with the very nature of reality. A lofty goal – yes – and a risky one too. I feel we have managed to create something that does just that though – a game that lets you actively engage with the mysteries of existence headfirst. I am personally dying to see how players react to it.”

Developed using their new, proprietary HPL4 engine, Frictional Game’s most thought-provoking work yet will release in collaboration with Kepler Interactive, the publisher behind a curated collection of culturally resonant, bold and timeless games including Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Rematch, Sifu, Pacific Drive and Ultros. “Kepler is always drawn to teams like Frictional Games that share our passion for creativity and art that feels alive. ONTOS is bold, unsettling and beautifully weird. It’s the kind of project that captures the magic of true auteurs and Hollywood talent coming together to explore the strange and tell a story that could only exist in video games,” says Alexis Garavaryan, CEO of Kepler Interactive.

ONTOS was previously teased back in September 2025 via an innovative and immersive ARG (Alternate Reality Game) made in collaboration with Kepler Interactive, ONTOS’ global publishing partner. Via a mysterious clue found in SOMA’s 10th anniversary update on PC, players could discover a series of social accounts, websites and strange messages that led them to uncover some early teases about ONTOS’ philosophical story themes and locations.

Players can wishlist ONTOS now on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S ahead of its release in 2026. For more information, visit: www.ontosgame.com.

Solasta II Early Access Date and Cast Reveal Trailer

Revealed today during The Game Awards, the epic turn-based RPG based on tabletop RPG systems, Solasta II, will enter Early Access on March 12, 2026. Players must lead the four adopted Colwall siblings through the unknown lands of Neokos, as they collide with divine legacies and mortal ambitions, on their quest to discover the truth their mother took to her grave. https://store.steampowered.com/app/2975950/Solasta_II/

Watch the thrilling new trailer on YouTube here:

Bound by a covenant left unfinished by their late mother, the siblings find themselves drawn into an ancient conflict that threatens to consume their world and unravel their family. Alongside their elder siblings, Rickard and Deorcas, they must navigate loyalties strained by grief, faith tested by darkness; with each step forward revealing how thin the line truly is between devotion and damnation.

As players traverse the fractured land, they must forge uneasy alliances, challenge the very will of the gods and be forced to make impossible choices that strike too close to home. Power always comes at a price; the question is whether it’s one you’re willing to pay.

Alongside the expanded narrative, striking cinematic visuals and deep tactical gameplay systems, Solasta II introduces a distinguished cast of voice actors to bring its heroes and villains to life:

  • Amelia Tyler (Baldur’s Gate III, Hades II) as Shadwyn
  • An ancient, unknowable force whose corruption spreads across the continent, threatening to plunge Neokos into darkness.
  • Ben Starr (Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Final Fantasy XVI) as Rickard Colwall
  • The eldest of the Colwall siblings, a steadfast light in a darkening world, whose loyalty runs deeper than blood.
  • Devora Wilde (Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Baldur’s Gate III) as Deorcas Colwall
  • A formidable warrior whose grief has driven her to doubt her faith, leading her down a path of darkness.
  • Ellen Thomas (Arcane) as Anabasia
  • A charismatic and manipulative leader, whose silver tongue is as dangerous as any sword.

Staying true to its tabletop roots, Solasta II perfects upon Tactical Adventures’ signature combat design, implementing the 2024 SRD ruleset to deliver the definitive D&D experience to truly capture the spirit of sitting around the table with friends, dice in hand.

All aspiring party members are invited to join the conversation and be part of helping shape the future of Solasta II in the official Discord.

Neolithic Dawn Unleashed on Meta Quest

The wait is finally over as VR survival fans can now enjoy the official launch of Neolithic Dawn for Meta Quest 2, 3 & 3S.

Originally beginning life five years ago as a PC VR title, Neolithic Dawn saw its first public release as an Early Access game for Meta Quest in the Summer of 2025. After months of updates from the Neolithic team, Neolithic Dawn delivers a VR survival adventure like no other.

Set in 10,000 BC, North America – with locations inspired by the region – in Neolithic Dawn, you are a hunter-gatherer who learns that your lineage is on a great quest. But this cannot be achieved in one lifetime, as the prehistoric era is filled with many dangers. Using a unique multi-generational permadeath system, death is not the end, as you’ll be reborn 20 years later. This can lead to many lives being lived and centuries passing.

To survive this harsh and unpredictable climate, you’ll have to craft tools and weapons by hand, explore vast open maps and hunt dangerous beasts. Balance key elements like hunger, thirst, energy and warmth to stay alive, building fires for warmth and to cook food. Animals can be hunted but they can also be tamed, providing a valuable companion on your journey.

Neolithic Dawn v1.0 Key Features:

  • Multi-generational Permadeath – Death is not the end, only a new beginning as you become your descendant
  • Innovative Tutorial – Learn how to survive by becoming your ancestor and having to protect yourself as a baby!
  • Realistic Challenges – Carefully balance Hunger, Thirst, Energy, and Warmth in order to survive each day
  • Crafting – Use resources from the environment to build tools and weapons to feed and protect yourself
  • Master the Environment – Encounter deadly prehistoric beasts that can either be killed or tamed
  • Social Prehistory – Take on these harsh lands with friends in 4-player co-op or hang out around the campfire and be social

Neolithic Dawn is available now on the Horizon Store for Meta Quest, priced at $19.99 USD/£9.99 GBP. To mark the occasion, a 25% launch discount is available during the first week, joining other VR games in the Horizon Store Holiday Sale.

A PC VR edition is available on Steam, which is currently in early access.

DECREPIT Game Awards Announcement Trailer

Jämmerdal Games, a new Swedish development studio founded by solo developer Olof Hagelin in his small closet, and publisher Three Friends have announced Decrepit, a dark fantasy first-person souls-like, live at the Game Awards.

In Decrepit, every death drags you back to the dungeons below, stripped of all equipment. Armed with only the knowledge gained from each escape attempt and whatever you can loot from undead inmates and guards, the only path out is learning the castle’s layout before it kills you.

Each run begins in a different cell of the hand-crafted castle, but memorizing the winding halls, unlocking shortcuts and understanding enemy patterns reveals the path to escape. Players must overcome challenging bosses to ascend to each new area, but the real progression is mastery – learning the castle well enough to make each run more efficient than the last.

Inspired by classic first-person action games like Hexen, dungeon crawlers like Eye of the Beholder, and modern souls-likes, Decrepit emphasises spatial mastery over power creep. Keen-eyed explorers will find hidden secrets throughout the castle that provide permanent bonuses. Helpful, but never a replacement for knowledge and execution.

Key gameplay features of Decrepit include:

  • Stamina-Based First-Person Combat – Combat focused on positioning, timing, and mastering weapon movesets. Each weapon has distinct attack patterns – light attacks, heavy strikes. Spells slot naturally into melee openings for strategic combinations. Study enemy telegraphs and exploit openings, or pay the price.
  • Equipment-Based Classes – Classes emerge from equipment you find. You can carry one weapon, one staff, and one armor piece at a time – these three slots define your current build. Collecting matching gear from the same archetype (Mage, Warrior, Rogue, or Shaman) unlocks set bonuses and unique abilities. Adapt to whatever the next slain enemy drops, or commit to hunting down a complete set.
  • Variable Encounters in a Fixed World – The castle layout never changes, but enemy encounters vary. Familiar foes appear in different positions. Rare threats emerge to challenge veterans. Hand-crafted architecture meets dynamic encounters to keep each run tense, even when you think you know every corner.
  • Master the Layout, Unlock the Path – Shortcuts stay unlocked. Elevators remain active. Secrets stay found. Early runs feel endless. Later, you’re sprinting through sections that once took twenty minutes, heading straight for the challenge ahead. The castle compresses as you learn it.
  • A Decaying Medieval Prison – From suffocating dungeons to rain-soaked courtyards, explore interconnected areas in a castle where the living have been replaced by the dead. Prisoners still wear their chains. Guards still patrol their posts. Even servants who died mid-task now attack from inside whatever confined them. The world is oppressive, but it follows rules – learn them, and they become tools for survival.

Decrepit knows exactly what it is and doesn’t apologize for it,” says Albert Säfström, Co-Founder and Producer at Three Friends. “It’s a tightly designed challenge with no filler, no bloat – just you, the castle, and the skills you’ve earned. It’s not for everyone but there’s a certain kind of player who’s been waiting for this. If you know, you know.”

Star Wars: Shadow of Maul Comic Series Sets Up Shadow Lord Animated Series

One of the most feared villains of the galaxy far, far away returns next year in Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord, a new animated series set after the events of the final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. In March, Marvel Comics will pave the way for the Disney+ series with STAR WARS: SHADOW OF MAUL, a five-issue prequel series written by Marvel superstar Benjamin Percy, who wrote the Sith Lord in last year’s Star Wars: Darth Maul – Black, White & Red series, and drawn by Madibek Musabekov, known for his acclaimed work on the recent Star Wars: Jedi Knights series.

Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord will reveal Maul’s plan to rebuild his criminal syndicate on Janix, a planet untouched by the Empire. STAR WARS: SHADOW OF MAUL introduces this new setting and cast, including Captain Brander Lawson and his partner, a droid nicknamed Two Boots, as they investigate shadowy dealings on Janix.

Welcome to Janix, a neon-lit, shadow-soaked maze of a planet that lies beyond the reach of the Empire. Captain Brander Lawson is doing his best to navigate the law in a lawless territory. He’s joined by his partner, a droid nicknamed Two Boots, as they face off against scheming crime bosses…and as the looming threat of the shadow lord, Maul, nears!

“I’ve said it before: I’m a giant Star Wars nerd,” Percy shared. “My previous experience writing in a galaxy far, far away—Darth Maul – Black, White, and RedBoba Fett – Black, White, and Red—was an absolute delight. But those were one-shots. Flirtations with the franchise. With Shadow of Maul, I’m able to share a more expansive story about one of my favorite characters, while also exploring a fresh angle on the Star Wars universe.

“This is a sci-fi story, but it’s also a crime story,” he continued. “It’s a story about cops, criminal syndicates, a neon-lit, shadow-alleyed city that hides many sins and secrets. I’m teamed up with an artist who’s already a Star Wars veteran and legend: Madibek Musabeckov. His art is gritty and grounded and perfectly matches the noir tone. We’ve been in close contact with Lucasfilm—reading scripts and watching episodes of this fantastic new animated series—and our story will serve as a prelude to what viewers will see play out on the screen.”

Check out covers by Derrick Chew, AKA, and Björn Barends along with a sneak peek at interior artwork and preorder STAR WARS: SHADOW OF MAUL #1 at your local comic shop today! For more information, visit Marvel.com.
