Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Official Review (PC)

Star Wars: Jedi Survivor is the latest addition to the Star Wars gaming franchise, developed by Electronic Arts. As a fan of the Star Wars universe, I was eager to dive into this game and see what it had to offer. After playing through the game, I can say that it is a solid entry in the series that offers an enjoyable experience for both new and longtime fans. The game’s storyline takes place 5 years after the events of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. As Cal Kestis, a Jedi on the run, the player must navigate their way through hostile terrain, evade Imperial forces, and uncover the secrets of the galaxy. The game’s story is well-written and engaging, with twists and turns that will keep players engaged from start to finish. The main character’s journey is one of self-discovery, making for a satisfying narrative that fits perfectly within the Star Wars universe.

One of the standout features of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is its gameplay mechanics. The game combines elements of platforming, puzzle-solving, and combat to create an engaging and varied experience. Players will need to use all of their skills to navigate the dangerous terrain and defeat enemies, making for a challenging but rewarding experience. Combat in the game is fluid and responsive, with a variety of different abilities and weapons to choose from. The game also features a skill tree system, allowing players to upgrade their abilities as they progress through the game.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Stunning Vista

The graphics in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor are stunning, with detailed environments and character models that bring the Star Wars universe to life. The game’s art style is faithful to the source material, capturing the look and feel of the Star Wars universe perfectly. The sound design is also top-notch, with iconic Star Wars music and sound effects that add to the immersion of the game. One area where Star Wars Jedi: Survivor falls short is in its level design. While the game’s environments are visually stunning, they can feel a bit repetitive at times. The game’s puzzles and platforming sections can also be a bit simplistic, lacking the complexity and depth that some players may be looking for. However, these issues do not detract from the overall experience of the game and are minor quibbles in an otherwise excellent title.

The game’s replay value is also a bit limited, with a linear storyline that does not offer much in the way of branching paths or alternate endings. However, the game does offer a New Journey+ mode, which allows players to replay the game with all of their upgrades and abilities intact. This mode adds some additional replay value to the game, allowing players to experience the game’s combat and exploration mechanics in a new way.

One important aspect of this sequel was just how they would design Cal Kestis’ Jedi powers and abilities at the start of the game, what with him being so powerful at the end of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Thankfully, you start with Cal Kestis still being a powerful warrior and, even though he has a number of new abilities to learn in the skill trees, you never feel like he was unfairly nerfed to begin with.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor New Foes

Speaking of new abilities – the Blaster and Crossguard lightsaber stances immediately stand out in my mind. These new lightsaber stances are unlike any seen in previous Star Wars games. Blaster stance pairs a single-bladed lightsaber with a blaster pistol. The mix is a bit Western mixed with samurai and it allows you some much-needed ranged combat. The crossguard stance uses a single-blanded lightsaber of considerable length in a slower, broadsword-style combat style. Attacks are a lot more powerful but take a bit longer to pull off. The only regret I have is that you can only have two stances available at any one time. It would be nice to have a third to get a more well-rounded set of combat options during play.

Overall, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is a solid addition to the Star Wars gaming franchise. The game’s engaging story, satisfying combat, and stunning graphics make it a must-play for fans of the series. While the game’s level design and replay value may be lacking in some areas, these issues are minor in the grand scheme of things. If you’re a fan of Star Wars or just looking for a fun and engaging game to play, then Jedi Survivor is definitely worth checking out.

Overall Rating: 4 out of 5
