All Bang, No Brains: Our Battlefield 6 Campaign Review

Let’s be honest, the bar for Battlefield 6‘s campaign was, to put it mildly, on the floor. After Battlefield 2042 launched as a multiplayer-only affair, the collective groan from a big chunk of the community was audible. We wanted a story. We wanted those big, cinematic, single-player moments that break up the endless grind of online matches. So, when EA and DICE announced the campaign was back, it felt like a promise. A course correction. A sign they were listening.

They brought back the single-player, but maybe they shouldn’t have.

What we got is a strange, beautiful, and ultimately hollow experience. It’s a campaign that feels like it was made from a checklist of what people think a military shooter campaign should be, without any of the heart or creativity that makes one memorable. It’s a technical marvel that, sadly, forgot to be fun.

First, the Good Stuff: It’s a Heck of a Light Show

Before I get too deep into the weeds, let’s give credit where it’s due. Visually and audibly, this campaign is an absolute monster. The sound design is, without a doubt, world-class. The ear-shattering crack of a sniper rifle, the deafening roar of a building collapsing, the sheer chaos of a firefight – it’s all incredibly visceral. If you have a good sound system, you’re in for a treat.

And the destruction! Man, when the game lets loose, it’s a sight to behold. Watching entire structures crumble into dust and rebar is pure, unadulterated Battlefield. The gunplay also feels fantastic; every weapon has a satisfying weight and punch to it that makes the simple act of shooting feel great. There are moments, like a frantic battle on a crumbling New York bridge, where the sheer spectacle is enough to make you say “wow”.

If you’re just looking for a playable Michael Bay movie to turn your brain off for a few hours, it absolutely delivers on the eye and ear candy.

Okay, Now for the Bad News: The Story is a Slog

Here’s the thing. A pretty game is nice, but a campaign needs a story you can actually get invested in. And this is where Battlefield 6 completely falls apart. The plot is a predictable, jingoistic mess straight out of 2008, pitting your elite squad against a generic evil private military corporation called Pax Armata. It’s a seven-hour “cliche bombardment” that feels like a straight-to-streaming action flick you’d forget by the time the credits roll.

The characters are even worse. I just finished the game, and I honestly couldn’t tell you a single personality trait for any of them beyond their class role: Assault, Engineer, Recon, Support. They’re cardboard cutouts who speak exclusively in tired military jargon. The game tries to have these big emotional moments, but they never land because you have zero connection to these people. Who are they? Why should I care? The game never gives you a reason.

A Game That Forgot What It Was

What’s truly baffling is how the campaign abandons everything that makes Battlefield unique. This is the franchise of massive sandbox maps, tactical freedom, and emergent, player-driven moments. Yet, for most of its runtime, the campaign funnels you down tight, linear corridors that feel more like a bad Call of Duty impression than a Battlefield game.

It’s so painfully on-rails. The most exciting set pieces are often ripped from your control and shown in a cutscene. You’re less of a supersoldier and more of a passenger on a very loud, very explosive theme park ride. This problem is made worse by the enemy AI, which is, to put it charitably, brain-dead. Enemies just stand out in the open or pop out of the same piece of cover repeatedly, turning firefights into a tedious game of whack-a-mole instead of a tactical challenge.

The Final Insult

Perhaps nothing sums up this campaign better than what happens when you finish it. After the credits roll on the brief, five-to-seven-hour story, the game presents you with a pop-up. It suggests you can now uninstall the single-player portion to save hard drive space.

Just think about that. The game itself encourages you to immediately delete a huge chunk of it. It’s a quiet admission from the developers that they know what they made: a disposable, one-and-done experience. It validates the feeling many of us had – that this campaign was a rushed, low-priority afterthought tacked on to avoid the backlash 2042 got.

Ultimately, the Battlefield 6 campaign is a massive missed opportunity. It’s a beautiful, hollow shell that makes you ache for the glory days of Bad Company 2 or even the flawed-but-memorable campaigns of BF3 and BF4. If you already own the game for its multiplayer, you can burn through it in an afternoon. But for the love of god, don’t buy this game for its story. You’ll be left with nothing but a pretty screensaver and a deep sense of disappointment.

Nightdive Releases Definitive PC Update I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream

Following a console release last March, industry-leading remaster developer Nightdive Studios has announced the release of the “Definitive Update” for Harlan Ellison’s I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream. The update is currently available on Steam and GOG for Windows PC, Mac, and Linux. The “Definitive Update” features various technical improvements from the game’s console release, including enhanced controller support, new display options, bonus content, and more!v

Based on the post-apocalyptic short story by renowned author Harlan Ellison, I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream plunges players deep within the center of the earth, where they play as each of the five survivors who have been trapped in the bowels of the insane AI AM for the past 109 years. Fueled by his intense hatred for the human race, AM has spent the past century torturing and toying with each character as he sees fit, culminating in a final game: an appropriately meta adventure-style quest for each of them, teasing the prospect of freedom if they succeed.

Each victim is subjected to a personalized psychodrama designed by AM to explore their greatest fears and feelings of guilt. Players go through each character’s personalized scenario, discovering the truth about each of their pasts and why AM chose to keep them alive and prolong their suffering. Whether they have the strength to overcome his games and face their demons…well, that’s for the player to decide.

I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream Definitive Update Patch Notes:

  • Added modern menu options, allowing players to customize their experience as they prefer (screen size adjustments, background image selection, visual filters, aim sensitivity)
  • Added in-game bonus content, including a fully localized manual and jukebox with the complete I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream soundtrack
  • Improved controller support, added pre-set shortcuts for smoother and more intuitive gameplay
  • Added an achievement system to encourage exploration and extend replayability
  • Added cloud saves, game progress is now stored and linked to the player’s account, allowing the game to continue being played across different devices

Sennheiser BTD 700 Review: The Tiny Dongle That Fixed My Bluetooth Woes

Let’s be honest. You’ve been there. You drop some serious cash on a fantastic pair of headphones – in my case, the Sennheiser Momentum 4s. You’re excited. You imagine this immersive, crystal-clear audio experience. Then you pair them with your laptop, and the sound is… fine. Just fine. The connection sometimes gets a little crackly, and if you walk two rooms away, it drops completely. It’s a bit of an anticlimax, isn’t it?

That’s the exact spot I was in before I got my hands on the Sennheiser BTD 700. It’s a tiny little USB-C dongle that costs about $60 and promises to fix all those Bluetooth blues. My first thought? “Sixty bucks for a dongle? Really?” But after a few weeks of using it religiously with my Momentum 4s, I’m here to tell you: it might be the best sixty dollars I’ve spent on my audio setup all year.

So, It’s Just a Little Stick. What’s the Big Deal?

At first glance, the BTD 700 is ridiculously unassuming. It’s smaller than a flash drive, weighs practically nothing, and plugs right into a USB-C port (it comes with a USB-A adapter, too). But the magic isn’t in what it looks like; it’s in what it does.

Here’s the thing: your laptop or phone, even a high-end one, probably has pretty basic Bluetooth hardware. It’s built for convenience, not for quality. It’s like having a Ferrari but being forced to drive it only in school zones. Your amazing headphones are being held back. The BTD 700 essentially bypasses your device’s built-in Bluetooth and creates its own high-performance connection. It supports fancy codecs like aptX Adaptive and aptX Lossless, which is just a technical way of saying it sends a much richer, more detailed audio signal to your headphones.

For me, the setup was a breeze. Plug it in, hold the button on my Momentum 4s to put them in pairing mode, and they found each other in seconds. No drivers, no fuss. My PC immediately saw it as a new sound card, and that was that.

Okay, But Does It Actually Sound Better?

This is the million-dollar question, right? The answer is a solid, confident “yes,” but with a small catch. It’s not a night-and-day, blow-your-socks-off difference on every single track. Instead, it’s a noticeable improvement in clarity and separation. It’s like going from a high-quality stream to a lossless file; the instruments just feel a little more distinct, the soundstage a bit wider. Everything sounds cleaner.

But you know what the real, immediate improvement was? Stability. The intermittent crackling I used to get from my PC’s native Bluetooth? Gone. Entirely. And the range is phenomenal. I can now walk all over my 2,000-square-foot house and not lose the connection for a second, which is something my PC’s built-in Bluetooth could never dream of doing. That alone felt like a huge win.

The Secret Weapon I Didn’t Know I Needed

Honestly, I thought the improved sound quality and stability were the main selling points. I was wrong. The real star of the show is a feature I almost ignored: Game Mode.

You know that tiny, almost imperceptible delay when you’re watching a video over Bluetooth? The one where the person’s lips are just a fraction of a second ahead of their voice? It’s one of those things that, once you notice it, you can’t un-notice it. In its standard mode, the BTD 700 still had a bit of this perceivable lag.

But then you triple-press the little button on the end of the dongle. A little LED light turns green, and the lag vanishes. Completely. It’s described as “almost instantaneous,” and that’s not an exaggeration. For watching movies or playing games, it’s a total game-changer. The audio feels as snappy and responsive as a wired connection. The best part? The sound quality barely takes a hit. I was expecting a compressed, tinny mess, but the audio remains rich and full. It’s just… faster.

The Final Verdict: Is It Worth Your Money?

After living with the BTD 700, going back feels like a real downgrade. It’s one of those quality-of-life improvements that you don’t realize you need until you have it.

However, it’s not for everyone. If you’re using AirPods or Sony’s WH-1000XM series headphones, you can probably skip this. Those headphones don’t support the aptX codecs that make this dongle special, so you won’t get the audio quality benefits and might even run into some weird connection bugs.

But if you own a pair of Sennheiser’s Momentum or ACCENTUM headphones, this is a no-brainer. It’s purpose-built to get the absolute best performance out of them. If you’re a gamer or watch a lot of content on your computer, the low-latency Game Mode alone is worth the price of admission.

For me, the BTD 700 is the missing link that finally made my Momentum 4s live up to their full potential. It delivers a more stable, slightly cleaner, and perfectly synced wireless experience. It’s a small investment to make sure your big investment in great headphones actually pays off.

Overall Rating 4 out of 5

Pros:

  • Dramatically improves Bluetooth stability
  • “Game Mode” provides an almost lag-free audio experience for gaming
  • Noticeably improves sound clarity and instrument separation with compatible headphones
  • Extremely simple plug-and-play setup

Cons:

  • Offers no audio quality benefit for headphones that don’t support aptX codecs
  • Standard (non-gaming) mode can still have a noticeable audio delay.
  • The price may feel high for a dongle
