The Exorcist: Believer In Every Religion and Every Culture Featurette

Exactly 50 years ago this fall, the most terrifying horror film in history landed on screens, shocking audiences around the world. Now, on Friday, October 6, a new chapter begins. From Blumhouse and director David Gordon Green, who shattered the status quo with their resurrection of the Halloween franchise, comes The Exorcist: Believer.

Since the death of his pregnant wife in a Haitian earthquake 12 years ago, Victor Fielding (Tony winner and Oscar® nominee Leslie Odom, Jr.; One Night in Miami, Hamilton) has raised their daughter, Angela (Lidya Jewett, Good Girls) on his own.

But when Angela and her friend Katherine (newcomer Olivia O’Neill), disappear in the woods, only to return three days later with no memory of what happened to them, it unleashes a chain of events that will force Victor to confront the nadir of evil and, in his terror and desperation, seek out the only person alive who has witnessed anything like it before: Chris MacNeil.

For the first time since the 1973 film, Oscar® winner Ellen Burstyn reprises her iconic role as Chris MacNeil, an actress who has been forever altered by what happened to her daughter Regan five decades before.

The film also stars Emmy winner Ann Dowd (The Handmaid’s Tale, Hereditary) as Victor and Angela’s neighbor, and Grammy winner Jennifer Nettles (Harriet, The Righteous Gemstones) and two-time Tony winner Norbert Leo Butz (Fosse/Verdon, Bloodline) as the parents of Katherine, Angela’s friend.

When The Exorcist, based on the best-selling book by William Peter Blatty, was released, it changed the culture forever, obliterating box office records and earning 10 Academy Award® nominations, becoming the first horror film ever nominated for Best Picture.

The Exorcist: Believer is directed by David Gordon Green from a screenplay by Peter Sattler (Camp X-Ray) and David Gordon Green, from a story by Scott Teems (Halloween Kills), Danny McBride (Halloween trilogy) and David Gordon Green, based on characters created by William Peter Blatty.

The film is produced by Jason Blum for Blumhouse and by David Robinson and James G. Robinson for Morgan Creek Entertainment.

The executive producers are Danny McBride, David Gordon Green, Stephanie Allain, Ryan Turek and Atilla Yücer. Universal Pictures presents a Blumhouse/Morgan Creek Entertainment production in association with Rough House Picures.

The Fabulous Fear Machine Out Now

Today, Fictiorama Studios and AMC Games announced the release of the indie narrative-driven strategy game, The Fabulous Fear Machine. With its themes of corruption and mass manipulation—and a striking comic book art style based on 1950s pulp horror—the game presents a uniquely chilling experience for players as Halloween approaches. The Fabulous Fear Machine is available now with a launch discount of 15% off $17.99 USD on Steam, GOG.com, and The Epic Games Store.

Just in time for the season of scary, The Fabulous Fear Machine offers a globe-trotting single player campaign that makes a game of wide-spread hysteria. Each of three story chapters focuses on a new Master of the Machine as their twisted morality play unfolds. From a scientist’s conquest of the pharmaceutical market in Eurasia, to a small-town insurance salesman’s fumbling foray into local politics, to a hell-raising tale of televangelism in the Americas, the game satirizes the institutional giants of contemporary life.

“We’re so excited about the release of The Fabulous Fear Machine,” said Luis Oliván, co-founder of Fictiorama Studios. “This is our most ambitious game so far—mixing narrative mechanics with strategy, cards, resource management, tabletop mechanics and comic books has been as challenging as it was fun. We hope players enjoy the game as much as we did developing it.”

Legends are the game’s eye-catching card mechanic, representing urban myths, folktales, and conspiracy theories designed to ensnare the masses. In order to grow the fear seed that represents the player’s power, Legends need to be evolved—a process involving resource management and an opportunity for players to flex their logic and horror lore knowledge. It rewards players who dive into the core fantasy of being a weaver of terrifying tales!

“The Fabulous Fear Machine is a celebration of the scary story, one that explores how urban legends creep under our skin and embed themselves into our psyches, until the only possible thing we can think to do is spread them,” said Clayton Neuman, VP of Games & Franchise at AMC. “We are so proud to be partnering with the award-winning developers at Fictiorama to spread this particular brand of fear to horror fans and real-time strategy enthusiasts alike this Halloween season.”

The Fabulous Fear Machine recently showcased new footage during Feardemic’s Fear Fest 2023, after gaining recognition for its art style and innovative mechanics on a 2022 tour of festivals like LudoNarraCon, IndieCade, the London Games Festival, and A MAZE. Scene Investigators Release Date Trailer

EQ Studies is thrilled to announce the release date for their true crime-inspired, deductive investigation game, Scene Investigators! Players will be able to put on their detective hats and examine evidence at a variety of murder scenes to uncover the truth on October 24th. Scene Investigators will be available on Steam for $24.99 USD and offers 8.5 immersive crime scenes to explore at launch.

The game is tailored to fans of detective films, the true crime genre, escape room puzzles, and especially for those who love the challenge of solving cases. Players will step into re-created crime scenes, observe closely for pieces of evidence, hypothesize possible motives behind the crimes, and use deductive reasoning to uncover what truly happened.

Watch the brand-new release date announcement trailer for a closer look at the investigative gameplay:

Set in the near future, you play as a trainee in pursuit of becoming a licensed investigator. Presented with a set of reconstructed case files that border between challenging and perplexing, your goal is to solve them and pass the test. Your only tools are your keen perception, astute thinking, and mental acuity. Can you solve them all?

Scene Investigators is a deductive reasoning game that leans heavily on keen observation, filling in the missing gaps, looking for motives when they aren’t there, and coming up with several plausible assumptions to progress through the investigation. It’s a different type of murder investigation game from the same developers who created The Painscreek Killings; it is less about story and more about deduction.

Features:

  • “True Crime” Detective Experience – Players must observe each scene carefully and analyze everything. They will take note of anything that stands out and write down suspicions as they navigate through the crime scenes. There are no hints or hand-holding, so they must use logic and intuition to solve each case.
  • Immersive Murder Mystery Puzzles – Piece everything together, not only to understand what happened but also the connection between the perpetrators and their victims. The only tools are keen perception, mental sharpness, and real-life wisdom.
  • 70/30 Principle: Hypothesis Testing – Players may find that some evidence is missing, limiting them from making the best conclusion. There might be 70% of the evidence in the case, but the other 30% is nowhere to be found. This is where they have to fill in the missing gaps, trust gut feelings, and make smart, calculated assumptions.
  • Uncover Narrative Through the Environment – Notice the pink lipstick on the wine glass? What about the trajectory of the bullet on the wall? How about the faint size-12 boot marks on the windowsill? These are part of the environmental clues that can help piece the story together.
  • Collaborate with Friends – While this is a singleplayer game, the deduction gameplay is great for streaming to fans or couch co-op gaming.
  • Localized in 10 Languages – Players all over the world can experience the mystery in English, German, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Brazilian Portuguese, French, and Spanish (Spain).
