Sniper Elite VR: Winter Warrior Launch Trailer

Rebellion, one of the world’s most successful independent video game developers and publishers, has today released Sniper Elite VR: Winter Warrior, a new VR game for Meta Quest 2, 3 and Pro which takes you behind enemy lines for the ultimate immersive World War II sniping experience. The launch trailer is available to watch here.

Sniper Elite VR: Winter Warrior is available to buy now on the Meta Quest Store for $14.99.

Developed in partnership with Just Add Water, Sniper Elite VR: Winter Warrior features a full story-driven campaign as you relive the memories of the Partisan, a former Italian resistance soldier. Take on the fight to banish the Nazi forces from your homeland and uncover Nazi wonder-weapons that must be destroyed along with those behind the plans.

In addition to the full-length campaign, there are two new game modes: Sniper Hunt and Last Stand. Sniper Hunt is an intense game of cat and mouse that pits you against expert Nazi snipers. Ambush a patrol to lure out a crack enemy sniper and engage in a nail-biting duel. Then relocate, collect ammo and prepare to face the next expert marksman that the enemy has to offer.

Last Stand sees you digging in against waves of enemies. You will have to gather weapons and ammunition, and set traps, before deciding on your strategy to defeat the oncoming forces. Will your strategy be to run and gun, or defend a single location? Either way, there are only two options: survive or die.

The immersion offered by virtual reality helps to greatly enhance the gunplay and handling in all game modes. Hold your sniper rifle with both hands, bring the scope to your eye and hold your breath as you prepare to take the perfect shot. Sniper Elite VR: Winter Warrior also features new weaponry including the M1 Garand, a fan favorite from the Sniper Elite series.

Game features:

  • Riveting Campaign
  • Hyper immersive gunplay
  • Sniper Hunt pits you against expert Nazi sharpshooters
  • Hold the line in Last Stand against ever increasing waves of enemies
  • Authentic World War II weaponry
  • Experience the brutality of X-Ray Kill Cam in VR
  • Wide range of difficulty, comfort and control options, including sitting/standing
  • Feel those bullets hit with ProTubeVR and bHaptics support

Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 5 is Out Now with New Game Modes and More

Baldur’s Gate 3’s most feature-filled patch yet is out today, not only fixing slowdowns caused by the eternal acts of thefts and violence reported earlier this week, but also bringing with it brand-new epilogues, providing closure to each player’s unique journey, as well as new game modes and so much more.

This playable new epilogue gameplay, accessible to all players loading the game prior to the final fight, takes place before the credits. Players will now find themselves in camp, six months after the events of Baldur’s Gate 3’s story, where they’ll meet new friends and old, taking all the time they need to say their final goodbyes to the party.

For the writers of Larian, this ‘final goodbye’ has been some of the most complex writing in the game so far, as it takes advantage of the game’s reactivity across the entire adventure. A gigantic tree of permutations defines the content, with new writing (3,589 lines to be exact), cinematics, and even characters joining the get-together at camp, organized by Withers.

Alongside the new epilogue content comes two new game modes: Honour Mode and Custom Mode. Honour Mode not only makes the game more difficult in and out of combat, but also introduces over 30 new tweaks to all of the game’s boss fights, with a new Legendary Action system designed to catch players off-guard and increase the challenge. Now bosses can perform new actions, adding twists and turns to all major fights throughout the game.

Inspiration points become more valuable in Honour Mode, as loading previous games – or ‘save scumming’ – is disabled, meaning players will need to keep count! Some of the more powerful ‘unintended exploits’ have been removed for players who embark on an Honour Mode adventure, though have been kept open for players to exploit in other difficulty settings.

When a player dies, they will be presented with statistics of their journey, including how long and how far they survived for. Should players choose, they can continue their adventure, which will then disable Honour mode. Players who do manage to complete the entire game with Honour Mode enabled (without dying) will be awarded the coveted Golden D20.

Those who lack a penchant for punishment (or perhaps want to push it to its extremes) may avail of Custom Mode, a new game mode that allows players to pick and choose a type of experience best for them. With many options to pick from, a few favorites include the option to hide the required roll to succeed dice checks, which gives a more realistic D&D experience, as well as the ability to hide enemy HP in battle, again more closely simulating the tabletop style.

Other options in Custom Mode include short rests fully healing the party, as well as disabling death-saving throws, or even the ability to hide failed perception checks, which means you’ll never know there was even a roll to begin with!

This patch also lands with improved inventory access, allowing players to manage the inventory of all companions from one single UI, regardless of whether or not they’re currently in your party. On top of all this, Patch 5 also brings performance improvements engineered as a consequence of the Xbox version of Baldur’s Gate 3, which benefits all platforms.

Patch 5 is so feature-full, we recommend reading the full patch notes. It includes many tweaks, fixes, and additions.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is out now on PC, Mac and PS5, and launches in December on Xbox Series X|S.

MicroProse to Publish Boat Crew

Boat Crew, a captivating action-strategy game immersed in the tumultuous setting of the Pacific War, proudly announces MicroProse as their publishing partner.

Developed by Tabbing Tabby, Boat Crew presents a dynamic, open campaign where players’ decisions intricately weave the game’s narrative. Engaging gamers to balance tactical precision with strategic finesse, the game enables the customization of boats and care for crew members amidst the challenges of wartime action.

Boat Crew’s gameplay spans scripted challenge missions and a dynamic campaign. In challenges, players fulfil objectives to succeed, while the Campaign’s victory hinges on accumulating Victory Points, earned by strategic conquests and significant target eliminations. This flexible approach empowers players to shape their journey across the Solomon Islands’ battleground.

Inspired by the Mosquito Fleet of WWII, each combat encounter in Boat Crew poses dangers and opportunities for players, emphasizing tactical brilliance over sheer firepower. The game caters to those seeking asymmetrical challenges, naval enthusiasts, and players drawn to the allure of being the underdog amidst formidable odds.  While steeped in historical inspiration, Boat Crew offers a dynamic campaign that diverges from strict historical accuracy, providing players with varied choices rather than adhering to a predetermined historical progression.

  • Dynamic & Open Campaign: Boat Crew offers a dynamically open campaign where player decisions intricately shape the narrative. Raiding enemy bases, protecting allies, and engaging in daring missions across the Solomon Islands influence the course of the war, providing players with diverse, impactful choices in their strategic conquests.
  • Tactical Depth & Strategy: Balancing tactical acumen with strategic prowess, players navigate the challenging wartime environment, customizing their boats and effectively managing their crew to overcome powerful adversaries. The game emphasizes maneuvering and better tactics over sheer firepower, presenting an engaging challenge for players seeking asymmetrical gameplay.
  • Historical Inspiration: Inspired by the Mosquito Fleet of WWII, Boat Crew immerses players in the perilous Pacific War. Each combat encounter with the lightly armored PT Boat poses dangers and opportunities, inviting players to relish in the underdog role, overcome unfavorable odds, and strategically retreat to live to fight another day.
  • Accessible Realism: Rooted in historical context but not bound by strict historical accuracy, Boat Crew offers a dynamic campaign diverging from linear historical progression. This approach grants players the freedom to make impactful choices, sacrificing strict historical fidelity for a more diverse and player-driven experience.
  • Engaging Crew Management: Beyond naval battles, players must manage their crew, balancing risk assessment and caring for the team’s well-being. Boat Crew caters to players drawn to leadership roles, where nurturing the crew’s skills and making tactical decisions define the path to victory amidst the chaos of war.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Showcase and Release Date Trailer

Today’s Dragon’s Dogma™ 2 Showcase confirmed the long-awaited sequel arrives on PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam on March 22, 2024, with pre-orders starting today. Dragon’s Dogma 2 director Hideaki Itsuno and producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi also unveiled a new trailer and gameplay for the narrative driven action RPG, including the new Trickster Vocation, new enemies, and deeper insights into the story and gameplay choices players will make as they delve deeper into the immersive fantasy world.

Adventure in Two Nations
In Dragon’s Dogma 2, players experience the tale of the Arisen, a champion whose heart is stolen by the Dragon. While the sequel’s setting mirrors the lush rolling hills of the cult classic Dragon’s Dogma™ and its Dark Arisen expansion, this original adventure takes place in a parallel world containing two nations with distinct approaches to the Dragon threat. Queen Regent Disa has installed a false Arisen to maintain control of the kingdom of Vermund for her son. Meanwhile, the beastren nation of Battahl considers the otherworldly Pawns to be a source of misfortune and have turned to worship of the Lambent Flame and their empress Nadinia to ward off calamity. The showcase provided a look at some of the destinations that quests can lead players to, such as the reclusive elven enclave of Sacred Arbor. The elves there communicate in their own language, and Pawns capable of understanding their speech will translate for the Arisen while in your party. Pawns can also specialize in other skills, making each of their personalities more distinct.

A Journey Defined by Choice
Upon starting their journey in Dragon’s Dogma 2, players will be able to craft both their Arisen and Main Pawn using an intuitive and deep character creator that makes use of photogrammetry to enhance the realism of each characters’ appearance. Additionally, players can choose the personality of their main Pawn, which will determine their behavior and conversation choices throughout the game. As players progress, they will unlock additional vocations such as the newly revealed Trickster. This Arisen-exclusive vocation can conjure illusions through the smoke created by its unique weapon, the Censer. Tricksters can use illusions to deceive enemies into fighting against their own, and can temporarily increase the power of Pawns beyond their limits. The new Trickster vocation showcases the ways players can manipulate and take advantage of the enhanced enemy AI to open entirely new combat opportunities.

The digital event also provided a first look at the returning Warrior and Sorcerer Vocations that will be available to both the Arisen and Pawns. The Warrior boasts a robust physique specializing in direct combat, with the strength to endure enemy attacks. Warriors are masters of two-handed weapons such as the greatsword and the hammer. The Sorcerer is a vocation completely specialized in various magick attacks. Their magick is conjured with both hands through a large staff and can change the tide of battle at any given opportunity.

Confront Fearsome Foes
Director Itsuno and Producer Hirabayashi provided a first look at several monsters during the digital event, including the new Talos enemy, a towering bronze golem capable of wreaking untold destruction with a single step. After Talos rises from the waters, players will need to make use of the various tools afforded them by their Vocation, Pawns, and terrain to subdue this mighty construct. The digital event also revealed gameplay for the Dullahan and Drake enemies. Dullahan is a headless specter capable of immobilizing its target before striking with its powerful curved blade. Drakes are fearsome draconic foes capable of breathing a potent flame when confronted and taking flight to shift the scales of combat.

Airborne Empire Gameplay Trailer

Prepare to embark on an aerial adventure with BAFTA-nominated indie developers The Wandering Band as they fly players to new skies in Airborne Empire. Due out in 2024, the game’s first gameplay trailer provides a sneak peek at the innovative mechanics and fresh features being brought to the Airborne games for the first time.

In Airborne Empire, players will adventure through dangerous skies aboard a fledgling flying city, endeavoring to transform it into a bustling metropolis. Like its predecessor Airborne Kingdom, Airborne Empire will challenge players not only to manage limited resources and keep their population happy, but also to master the unique lift, balance, and propulsion mechanics that keep their city aloft. With this new installment in the Airborne series also comes new mechanics, buildings, biomes, and the long-awaited inclusion of combat.

In the trailer, we meet two avian characters, Merchant Pyle and Magistrate Agatha, each a delightful embodiment of the Ghibli-inspired charm and wonder that pervade the game’s world. They introduce us to Airborne Empire’s pirate enemies and offer the player a quest. The trailer also features clips of the combat and defense mechanics, including a first look at the Defense Tower and Cannon buildings that integrate seamlessly into the series’ signature steampunk aesthetic and colony-management gameplay. “Our community helped shape Airborne Kingdom,” says studio co-founder Ben Wander about Airborne Empire’s predecessor. “Combat was the biggest requested feature of the last game, but I’m also excited about how much richer the world and story will be in Airborne Empire.”

As players adventure through brand-new skies, they’ll encounter a variety of biomes in an open world teeming with whimsical characters, dynamic quests, and hidden wonders waiting to be discovered. While aiding the communities below, players will unlock the wisdom to incorporate cutting-edge technologies and counter the looming pirate threat. Research defense upgrades, defend your city, and unravel the world’s mysteries all while building your very own Airborne Empire!

“It really sets a different tone – an adventure, like Indiana Jones,” says studio co-founder and designer Zach Mumbach. “Call it city-builder meets RPG. It’s really its own thing, and I can’t wait to get players’ hands on it!”

Airborne Empire will arrive on PC and Mac via Steam Early Access in 2024. Visit airborneempire.com for more information, and follow The Wandering Band on Twitter and Instagram for the latest updates.
