Farming Simulator 17 Gamescom Trailer

August 12, 2016 – Next week will be Gamescom 2016 in Köln, Germany, a landmark for Farming Simulator, where the game was met with huge success for the past 7 years, gathering hundreds of thousands of German players, constituting an important core of a passionate community. Gamescom 2016 is thus a perfect opportunity for Farming Simulator 17 to return to the spotlight and meet its German audience, who will, like every year, access and play a preview version of the new game, on a huge Farming Simulator booth (Hall 8 – B41) that promises this year to once again get the public hall rocking!

Players will also be able to try Farming Simulator 17 on the PlayStation booth, while journalists are welcome to attend an official presentation of the game by the developers on the Focus Home Interactive booth (Hall 3.2 – D16).

In the meantime, have a sneak peek at Farming Simulator 17, its new environment and some of its new features with its Gamescom Trailer! Among these new features, livestock farming gets even richer, with the introduction of a new animal type: pigs. The transportation system has also been significantly deepened, with a new railway system featuring drivable trains, giving players an alternative way of transporting a large variety and quantity of goods between different production and selling spots, located in the new environment: Goldcrest Valley.

These are just a few of the new features of Farming Simulator 17. Including also over 250 vehicles and tools from more than 75 brands, Farming Simulator 17 is the most complete farming simulation ever created. We will unveil more in the coming weeks, until the official PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC releases on the 25th of October, 2016.

Nordic Games is Now THQ Nordic

VIENNA, Austria (Aug. 12, 2016) – This is not your standard press release. Instead, we would like to make this corporate statement regarding our company Nordic Games reincorporating to THQ Nordic.

Obligatory Flashback Part (in only 2 paragraphs):

It all started out in Sweden in 2008 as a mini-venture to self-publish such illustrious titles likeDance Party Club Hits, Kart Racer and Truck Racer (just to name a few) on PlayStation 2 and Nintendo Wii. The following year, we landed We Sing, a million-plus selling karaoke franchise for Nintendo Wii. In 2011, with our first of many acquisitions to come, Nordic Games began its transformation from small scale, two-platform games publisher to a multi-platform, multi-genre global player.

One could say the most defining moment for our company happened in 2013, grabbing headlines like; “Who the FUCK is Nordic Games?”, “Darksiders Gets Bought By…Nordic Games?”, and “Nordic Games explains who the f they are, plans for THQ assets”. Funny enough, back then, this was so true. Until that point, we had been a low profile publisher uttering expletives of our own along the way, and all of a sudden we found ourselves in the international gaming media spotlight. We knew then, with great certainty, that we’d just made the best deal in our company´s history.

Nordic Games By The Numbers:
Since our formation in 2008, we proudly look back on 8 years of continuous growth on all (!) aspects of our business, not just the bottom-line. During that time, 16 individual IPs and franchise acquisitions were concluded, resulting in a catalogue of more than 250 actively sold games, over 60 trademarks, hundreds of web domains and a few patents for hardware and software.

61 game development projects were initiated and have launched, and most importantly, we have created 82 jobs (if you include external development teams this number amounts to 325) and pride ourselves on our very, very, very low staff fluctuation, which basically amounts to zero.

Two development studios were setup – one located in Phoenix, Arizona (let’s hope Donald Trump reads this), the other one in Munich, Germany, and we have managed to grow our group wide team size from 2 in 2008 to 84 team members today.

Introducing THQ Nordic (the KISS part):
Whilst we take great pride in our Swedish roots and accomplished a great deal under the Nordic Games masthead, we decided it was time to incorporate the THQ name. Those key brands will continue to shape our business in a meaningful way going forward, and THQ Nordicrepresents a core approach of doing much more than “owning” a highly competitive portfolio of IPs. We cherish them, and align them with the very best development resources to expand upon them with the level of experience that communities and established fan bases expect and deserve. Side note – another upside to this whole rebrand thing is we don’t get asked about the Nordic Game parties at Gamescom anymore – it was the other guys who threw them.

With this rebrand we are entering the next phase in our company’s evolution.

As of now we have 23 game projects in development, 13 thereof have not yet been publicly announced, but are sure to be in the next months. Needless to say, the majority of these projects are based on former THQ owned IPs and franchises.

As far as the logo design is concerned, Lars Wingefors, founder and owner of THQ Nordic (formerly known as Nordic Games) would like to say this:

“As for the new logo design, we literally stumbled across it when browsing some art files, after we bought the THQ trademark and figured: why not? We hope the reception from our partners is less ambivalent but we’re OK either way. We invite you to our Gamescom booth to play our games and see the logo in large-scale format.”

Please visit us in Cologne and stop by our booth to take a look at our current projects and also some of our upcoming games. If you’re not interested at all, you can still pop by to charge your mobile phones, hunt Pokémons, or just hang out and chat with us.

THQ Nordic at Gamescom 2016:
Entertainment area: Hall 8, C20
Business area: Hall 4.1, D21

TL;DR:
Nordic Games + THQ = THQ Nordic from now on, due to numerous reasons explained in a bit more detail in the text.

War Thunder to Get Naval Combat

(MOSCOW, RUSSIAN FEDERATION) – August 11, 2016 – Gaijin Entertainment today announced the forthcoming start of closed beta for Naval Battles, the highly sought after combat mode in War Thunder, its award-winning MMO WWII online game with first exclusive hands-on at this year’s Gamescom. The inclusion of Naval Battles will provide fans with the ability to battle from the land, sea and air.

The participants of naval battles upcoming closed beta will be called the “Knights of the Sea”. Made up of torpedo, artillery and missile boats, coast guard vessels and submarine chasers, they are the so-called “small” naval contingent that served in all oceanic theatres of World War 2.

“The high level of realism is one of the key design features of War Thunder. Vehicles are as close to their real life counterparts as possible. Classic large ship battles during the war were contests of patience and planning, where engagements could last from several hours to several days. In War Thunder, where all kinds of vehicles fight in one battle and players can control aircraft, tanks and ships, it is not possible to change the size of the ships or make time run faster, as everything needs to remain consistent.

Our internal testing showed that battles with large battleships were too long and slow or required design changes that made ships entirely unrealistic. For this reason, we are leading with fast attack-based craft, which are rarely reproduced in games. Ships, that are more suitable for the formula of our game. These fast, agile and dangerous “Knights of the Sea” are worthy contenders for aircraft and tanks on the ground” – says creative director Kirill Yudintsev, Gaijin Entertainment.

All nations in War Thunder will get naval forces. Invited players and those who purchase one of two Starter packs with unique ships, will be able to join the closed testing as soon as the testing phase begins later this year.

The first Starter Pack includes a Soviet Project 1124 Armored River Boat. The T-34 turret and two 12.7mm machine guns allow the gunboat to efficiently eliminate enemy ships and low-flying aircraft; but the main destructive power of the Project 1124 lies in her M-13-M1 unguided rocket launcher, the legendary Katyusha.

The second starter pack includes the famous American PT-109, a motor torpedo boat on which the future US President John F. Kennedy served and performed acts of wartime heroism. During one of the operations the boat was subjected to a surprise ram attack from the Japanese destroyer, Amagiri. Despite a serious back injury, Lieutenant Kennedy acted wisely and decisively, saving all ten surviving crew members. In War Thunder, this boat is a fast and maneuverable ship destroyer. Her four torpedoes, each weighing almost 1,200 kg, come in handy for destroying large naval targets. Both ships will be available on the start of closed beta testing.

The first to take part in the naval battles of War Thunder will be the visitors of Gamescom 2016. In the game booth in Hall 6, Gaijin Entertainment has organized a special closed area, where guests can try their hand as captains of attack boats. For those unable to visit the exhibition, there will be a special video broadcast from the official Twitch booth and new developer blog updates each day, where developers of the game discuss the new regime, present ships of different nations and run giveaways of closed beta access codes for the viewers.

2016 Scare LA Wrap-Up and Photo Gallery

As we move closer to the Halloween season, one of the great Southern California joys is going to Scare LA, a Halloween / horror convention. Now in its fourth year, Scare LA has grown quite a bit from its meager beginnings. Scare LA creator Lora Ivanova has crafted this show into a huge event and it brings in some top talent for its panels and classes.

There were a number of panels to take in – with all the names in the haunted attractions industry showing up. Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights and Knott’s Scary Farm gave a few more interesting tidbits about their upcoming events and we even had panels featuring Elvira herself! Elvira was the big name and host of Scare LA 2016 and she took a lot of time signing autographs on the exhibit floor.

scare-la-2016-060

Speaking of the exhibit floor, the Pasadena Convention Center is a very large space and they did a great job of filling it with vendors and even mini-escape rooms! We are big escape room fans and it is great to see them get floorspace in these events. Last year, there didn’t seem to be as many vendors as I had hoped – this year was a huge improvement. The Decayed Brigade (a group of “sliders” originally from Knott’s Scary Farm) were back again this year and put on some great displays of athleticism in their shows.

As usual, there were several mini-haunted houses at the event – with amazing showings from the folks at Creep LA as well as an all-new, in-house haunted house directly from the creators of Scare LA! Blood Offering featured some great set pieces, very good runtime – especially for a mini-haunt, as well as some nice acting components. Scare LA teamed up with former Knott’s Scary Farm maze designer Brooke Walters and Hollywood prop maker Donald Julson for the walk-through (and crawl-through at times).

You could even purchase a “Scare Student” pass to the event and take in a variety of classes pertaining to haunted attractions. Haunt music creator Jon Autopsy taught a course in crafting music for your haunted house while makeup artist Ken Frankling taught a course in airbrush makeup. There were, of course, a lot more to attend, but these were just a couple examples.

Overall, the 2016 Scare LA was a great time for horror and Halloween fans alike and I can’t wait to check out the 2017 event.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided Announces Eye Tracking

Montreal & Stockholm – August 9, 2016Tobii, the global leader in eye tracking, and Eidos® Montreal, the award winning studio, today announced that the PC version Deus Ex: Mankind Divided® will support multiple eye-tracking features. Powered by Tobii eye trackers, Tobii EyeX and the SteelSeries Sentry allow for greater game immersion, a cleaner UI, and enhanced navigation. A Tobii EyeX and Deus Ex® game bundle is set to be released on the 23rd of August.

“With the Deus Ex franchise being a window to the future, we always try to provide innovative, ground-breaking experiences for our players,” says André Vu, Executive Brand Director at Eidos Montréal. “The numerous Tobii eye tracking features built into the game will provide PC gamers an extra layer of immersion that blends perfectly with the futuristic universe depicted in Deus Ex.”

The Tobii EyeX, a $139 USD peripheral eye tracker that connects to any existing PC via USB, empowers gamers with new, more realistic experiences in their games. Eye tracking serves as an additional modality that adds to the game experience without taking anything away or restricting the gamer in any way. Tobii sees numerous opportunities for eye tracking to enhance game immersion and realism, including the development of more responsive characters that interact with you when you make eye contact or features that mimic the functions of the eye, like dynamic depth of field or light exposure.

“The commitment by Eidos Montréal and Square Enix® to bring eye tracking to the mega Deus Ex franchise is another demonstration of the industry’s belief in the value of eye tracking,” said Oscar Werner, president of Tobii Tech. “We applaud the team at Eidos Montréal for their forward thinking approach and drive to give their gamers more.”

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided comes with a ton of new innovations to make gamers salivate. With eye tracking integration, gameplay becomes more immersive as the gamer’s eye movement is harnessed to create more natural and more realistic actions, making them part of this futuristic, dystopian world. Tobii eye tracking features include:

  • Aim at Gaze – Look at the target to take aim, then press a button and fire. This feature let players take out enemies using their natural gaze and will even work when locking the tesla gun for all-out mayhem.
  • Extended View– Look to the edge of the screen and the game’s camera will pan – giving players a wider field of view with just a glance. The natural eye movement will allow further immersion into the game’s environment and let players control what they want to see – just as in real life.
  • Icarus Dash at gaze – Simply look in the direction you want Adam to move in – even vertically. This will allow players you use the controls in a more fluid manner.
  • Interact at gaze – This feature lets players move effortlessly using the natural gaze to intuitively interact with objects. Look at an object, press a button and automatically move towards it before picking it up.
  • Clean UI– This feature lets player access UI info only when needed, giving them deeper immersion into the game’s environment. Look and they’ll appear. Look away, they’ll become nearly transparent. The screen is always covered fully in the game’s world, with the vital stats just a glance away. Helps you embrace the game’s environment. Helps players keep track of what you need to –when they need to.
  • Cover at Gaze – This feature lets players find refuge when the heat is on just by gazing across the environment – highlighting places you can hide behind. (Not available on August 23, this feature will be available in an upcoming update.)

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, the sequel to the critically acclaimed Deus Ex: Human Revolution®, builds on the franchise’s trademark choice and consequence, action RPG based gameplay, to create both a memorable and highly immersive experience. Players will once again take on the role of Adam Jensen, now an experienced covert agent, and will gain access to his new arsenal of customizable state-of-the-art weapons and augmentations. With time working against him, Adam must choose the right approach, along with whom to trust, in order to unravel a vast worldwide conspiracy. The game also includes Deus Ex: Mankind Divided – Breach, a new and innovative game mode. This new take on the game offers, for the very first time, an arcade approach on the gameplay of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, providing players with a unique puzzle shooter experience.

New Tobii EyeX customers will receive a free copy of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided when they purchase the Tobii EyeX and Deus Ex Bundle here.
