AMC Games Unveils New Trailer for Airplane Mode

Today AMC Games released new details for the upcoming flight simulation game Airplane Mode, including the announcement of a 2.5-hour flight option from JFK to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Previously AMC Games had announced a six-hour option from JFK to Reykjavik only. Moreover, AMC Games also announced that Bennett Foddy, the Australian-American video game designer most known for QWOP and Getting Over it with Bennett Foddy, will play the role of the captain for both flights.

“Six hours can be a big investment of time, so we’re happy to offer this shorter flight option for players who want to experience Airplane Mode on a tight schedule. And for those folks, I have just two words: O, Canada!” said Hosni Auji, Airplane Mode’s creator. “We’re also excited to have Bennett lend his voice to a key member of our crew. As an early advisor on the game, he helped mold it into the singular and somewhat quirky experience that it is today.”

Announced last November at the Desert Bus for Hope Marathon, Airplane Mode encourages players to sit back — but not too much, this is Coach after all — and experience the Zen-like routines of commercial flying.

A spiritual successor to Penn and Teller’s cult hit mini-game Desert Bus, Airplane Mode lets players enjoy the pulse-pounding exhilaration of flights lasting 6 hours or longer — in real-time — complete with crying babies, spotty wi-fi, turbulence, and a delicious fish or chicken dinner. Will the listlessness become an invitation for your brain to play? That may be just what you need to successfully arrive at your destination.

Here are just a few of the things you can do in Airplane Mode:

  • Grab a window seat, and stare in silence at the slowly passing clouds as you try to make time go faster through sheer force of will.
  • Experience a more realistic depiction of how people really fly than even the most ambitious AAA flight simulations launching in 2020. For example, players can enjoy the myriad delights of their carry-on luggage, including a book, and a pen. And headphones!
  • No learning curve! Players can pick up and play without the need for extensive tutorials, instructions, or — strictly speaking — consciousness.
  • Other flight simulators give you high-definition cockpits with a billion switches and dials, but Airplane Mode is the only one that offers a realistically rendered seatback trays.
  • Enjoy an inflight safety video from AMC Games’ “slightly off” network sibling IFC.

Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Developer Diaries Dev Diary Part 1

Frontier Developments plc (AIM: FDEV) unveiled today “One Giant Leap”, the first in a series of Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Developer Diaries. Join Game Director Piers Jackson, Art Directors Chris Gregory and Jonathan Bottone, Principal Programmer Kay Ross and Lead Designer Gareth Hughes for a first contact with Odyssey’s atmospheric planets.

Exploration has always been at the core of the Elite Dangerous experience. With the highly anticipated arrival of Elite Dangerous: Odyssey in early 2021, this fundamental aspect of the game takes on a completely new dimension by introducing on-foot exploration of atmospheric planets. Players will leave the protection of their spaceships and venture out and discover the secrets and hazards those new worlds have to offer, experiencing the thrill of leaving their footprints over previously unexplored terrain.

The Elite Dangerous: Odyssey development team is lavishing great care and attention to detail in the authentic recreation of the ice and rocky planets players will be landing on. Surface pressure, volcanism, atmospheric composition and other geological agents all play a key part on the structure and natural features of each world, capriciously moulding their appearance and making them unique and distinctive.

One of the most stunning changes Elite Dangerous: Odyssey’s on-foot exploration will bring to the game is a completely new perception of scale. When disembarking from their spaceships, players will notice never seen before details, like alien vegetation. This exotic flora can be analysed to obtain genetic information from every new variant encountered, and players can profit from their discoveries by trading in the data.

Elite Dangerous: Odyssey launches in early 2021. Stay tuned for more Development Diaries in the near future, expanding on gameplay and combat from a first person perspective.
