The Climb Out for Oculus Quest

FRANKFURT, Germany – Dec. 3, 2019 – Today Crytek is bringing the thrill of extreme free solo rock climbing to Oculus Quest with The Climb. The adrenaline-packed climbing game allows players to experience the rush of dangerous solo climbs in stunning, hyper-realistic settings from the comfort of almost anywhere with the incredible freedom offered by the completely wireless Oculus Quest. The Climb is available now for $29.99 in the Oculus Store and supports cross-buy, meaning players who already own The Climb on Oculus Rift will receive a copy for Quest for free (and vice versa).

Experience the ultimate in extreme sports: go beyond the point of no return and scale deadly cliff faces unaided, with three locations, tutorials, a practice wall, and six intense bouldering routes to beat. In Tourist mode, players can explore the expansive settings with simplified game mechanics to discover new routes, show friends and family, or just enjoy the scenery. Meanwhile, The Climb’s asynchronous multiplayer mode allows climbers to compete against other players’ ascents and send challenges to their friends.

The Climb’s three settings give climbers a variety of landscapes to explore—Alps, Bay and Canyon—each painstakingly created based on real-world locations. For example, Canyon takes inspiration from the geography of the Grand Canyon, drawing upon wider natural and cultural cues from across the U.S. and combining iconic elements to create an immersive blend of sights, sounds and adrenaline-pumping challenges. By night, fireworks from a music festival accompany the breathtaking ascents, while daylight reveals endless vistas marked by winding rivers, mysterious mine shafts and jets performing dramatic formation flyovers. The heat will be on as players feel the scale of the environment, the vertigo of the height and the challenge of the competition to achieve the best times on the leaderboards.

“From the very first prototype for The Climb, we knew that climbing and VR were the perfect combination. Virtual reality allows you to try something most people could never experience in real life—and with just as intense an adrenaline rush as the real thing,” said Producer Fatih Özbayram. “The Climb is so much fun to play on Oculus Rift, and the Quest offers even more freedom to players. No strings—or cables—attached!”

To complete The Climb’s host of vertical challenges, players will have to master different grip types, balance speed against stamina, and discover routes and shortcuts. More than 100 achievements are up for grabs as players unlock custom watches, gloves and wristbands, while amazing visual payoffs reward the completion of every ascent, demonstrating the power of CRYENGINE and VR.

Arise: A Simple Story Launch Trailer

December 3, 2019 — Techland Publishing today announced that Arise: A Simple Story is now available as a digital download on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and the Epic Games Store. A beautiful and deeply moving platform adventure game, Arise is Barcelona-based developer Piccolo Studio’s first game to ever be released.

Arise invites players to take the first step on a journey into the afterlife. The game is a heartfelt tale of an old man’s life, interwoven with love and loss, through the symbolic landscapes of his memories and a unique traversal mechanic that allows players to manipulate time in single player or light cooperative play. As each chapter represents a pivotal moment from the protagonist’s past, Arise’s touching love story will take the old man—and the players themselves—on an impassioned emotional rollercoaster of empowering highs and visceral lows.

Arise is artistically enchanting with beautiful landscapes and an emotional soundtrack composed by BAFTA Award winning composer David García.

“Arise is a deep narrative, carefully crafted to transcend both the literal and metaphorical. We travel together with an old man across artistically stunning landscapes, each of which represents a crucially poignant moment of his life, lush with love and loss,” said Alexis Corominas, one of the founders of Piccolo. “We hope players will find themselves walking alongside him on a path of self-reflection, and, with each step, relate to the heartfelt magic in his story. We can’t wait for the players to discover what—or whom—they and the old man will find throughout the journey.”

Piccolo was established by three friends who quit their corporate jobs to pursue their long-time dream of creating handcrafted video games. Piccolo, Italian for “small,” is a tight-knit, 15-person strong team.

Arise is now available as a digital download on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and the Epic Games Store for $19.99 USD. This title has an ESRB rating of “E” for everyone.

Starship Troopers – Terran Command Gameplay Teaser

Epsom, UK, December 2nd, 2019. Slitherine LTD, the world’s leading publisher of digital wargames and strategy games, in collaboration with Sony Pictures Consumer Products, announced today “Starship Troopers – Terran Command,” a real time strategy game based on TriStar Pictures’s iconic 1997 movie to be released for PC in 2020.

“If you take one of the most iconic movies from the 90s and shape it into a strategy game of survival, that mixes classic real-time mechanics, tower defense and tactical deployment of units then you have ‘Starship Troopers – Terran Command’ in a nutshell”, says Iain McNeil, Development Director at Slitherine. “Modern strategy games are fast-paced and they successfully blend unit management, survival and captivating storytelling. Nothing is more suited to this type of gameplay than the Starship Troopers universe, where there is a continuous sense of danger and uncertainty”.

Set in the same universe of the original movie, “Starship Troopers – Terran Command” drops players right at the heart of a human colony overrun by the Arachnids. They must take the fight into bug territory, where they will lead an army of elite soldiers to defeat the alien menace. They will deploy their units in strategic locations to cover vital choke-points, build defence emplacements, and achieve superior firepower through the tactical use of elevation levels.

“When creating this game, we aimed to capture the essence of the original movie and its universe. This is not only achieved by creating a coherent set of units and scenarios, but also by mimicking the language, visual elements, dialogues and the little details that made the film such an iconic, cult feature.”, Iain McNeil continues.

Slitherine is also a core strategy games publisher though and that doesn’t go away. This is why the British publisher is working with strategy games developer The Artistocrats to create a product that features complex mechanics, deep gameplay systems and a wide variety of options to turn a fast-paced strategy game into a mind-bending experience that involves multiple solutions to a very basic problem: to kill a lot of bugs.

The Artistocrats are the Belgian development studio behind the Order of Battle series and Commander: the Great War. Studio owner and lead designer Lukas Nijsten has been working on “Starship Troopers – Terran Command” for over two years now. The game is set to release in 2020.
