CATAN – Console Edition Nintendo Switch Launch Date

CATAN – Console Edition is making its way to the Nintendo Switch! Starting on November 9, 2023, Nintendo Switch owners will be able to play the hugely popular board game with friends and family on the couch, online or on the move – all on the board that comes to life. The official console version of the hit international board game has been in development courtesy of Dovetail Games with help from the team over at Nomad Games.

The much-anticipated November release of the Super Deluxe edition of the game includes the base game of CATAN, five championship maps and The Helpers (the first official expansion to CATAN – Console Edition.) Alongside the Super Deluxe version, Dovetail Games has two additional editions: Deluxe and Standard. The Deluxe version includes the base game and championship maps, while the Standard version contains the base game of CATAN. Players who buy the Standard edition of CATAN and decide at a later date to get The Helpers/championship maps, can purchase separately.

Players will immerse themselves in a vibrant animated board, populated with characters farming and mining resources, sheep roaming their respective hexes and the Robber waiting for the moment to move. Ships occupy the surrounding harbors, and settlements and cities appear as players continue to build and trade with one another. Success comes with earning Victory Points, which can be gained in various ways, including building the ‘Longest Road’ or amassing the ‘Largest Army.’ Building cities and settlements also earn Victory Points, as well as through the tactical use of Development Cards.

The Helpers expansion pack adds an additional layer of strategy (and fun) to the base game of CATAN by introducing 12 characters known as Helpers. Each Helper brings its own unique and specialized skills to give players a strategic advantage in developing their fledgling communities into thriving cities. The rules and conditions of victory remain the same as it was in the base game, but the way to get there is more intriguing. Players will need to make sure they own the base CATAN – Console Edition game to make use of this expansion.

CATAN has always been about playing together, and with the Card Companion on smartphones, players can all gather around one TV without the risk of seeing the resources that other players have.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 Remake Out Now

Today, KOEI TECMO America and developer Kou Shibusawa introduced a variety of new features and enhancements to their recently announced strategy game, Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 Remake, including new officers, scenarios, visuals, voices, and more. Kou Shibusawa’s tactical military simulation is currently under development and will be available digitally in early 2024 on Nintendo Switch™, PlayStation®5, PlayStation®4, and Windows PC via Steam®.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 Remake is based on Romance of the Three Kingdoms VIII with Power Up Kit, complete with both the “All Officers Play” and “All Periods Scenarios” features, as well as a host of new content to deliver the most complete Romance of the Three Kingdoms experience to date.

Among the new additions, the number of officers has been increased from approximately 600 to 1,000! With the newly added officers and forces that were not in the original game, players can enjoy new events and relationships between the officers for an even more authentic experience. The “All Periods Scenarios” feature has also been updated to offer more than 55 scenarios, including fictional scenarios – most in series history! From the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty to the final age of the Three Kingdoms period, players can choose any officer and period they’d like to play, creating numerous combinations for an ideal playthrough.

To enhance the Romance of the Three Kingdoms experience, new visuals and voices have been added. Combining 2D and 3D graphics, it retains the atmosphere of the original title while being renewed with rich graphical expression. The number of voices has also been increased, with officers displayed in beautifully rendered graphics speaking to players in a variety of situations, with animated movies featuring full voices being used for important events*.

The battlefield map has also been reworked, from a single 2D picture to a mix of 2D and 3D. Battlefields are created using the latest 3D technology, while distant landscapes are rendered as ink paintings to help create both powerful battles and an immersive experience!

Combat in Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 Remake remains turn-based, just like the original title, but the system has been fundamentally restructured, the result of Kou Shibusawa’s 20 years of know-how since the launch of Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8. While the remake retains the key features of RTK8 — simple rules that make it easy for beginners, a map that combines field and siege battles, and the use of terrain – the tempo and balance of the game have been greatly improved. With the addition of new features such as “Link Forged”, players will discover an easy-to-play yet highly tactical combat experience.

The events that color the drama between characters can be found in the new “Tales” feature. This feature will allow players to check the conditions, outcomes, and branching of different events, so they know how to trigger the ones they want or how to avoid other events altogether. Historical events as well as general events are displayed, so that even beginners can check the conditions when they are not sure what to do, helping guide them in their play.

In addition to events involving different officers, they will be linked through “Destiny” – the fate that connects two officers. There are two types of “Destiny”: “Symbiotic” and “Antagonistic”. “Symbiotic” makes it easier to have a good relationship with an officer, while “Antagonistic” makes it more likely to have a bad relationship. Depending on how players choose to progress, non-historically related characters can by linked by “Destiny”, and as relationships deepen, “Linked Forged” will occur in battles and missions, providing significant benefits.

To help players easily keep track of the relationships and “Destiny” of the officer they play, a new “Relationship Chart” feature has been added. With this feature, players will be able to keep tabs on rivals, good friends, or anyone deeply involved in their lives. By interacting and working with characters they are close to, players will obtain greater achievements and this will also contribute to the protagonist’s growth. As relationships deepen, it will lead to events that will become turning points in the officer’s life, such as sworn siblings, marriage, and child rearing. Relationships depicted in the chart are not only historical, but players will see them change dynamically depending on how the gameplay unfolds!

World of Warships Collides with Heroes of Might and Magic III in October Content Update

Wargaming, the publisher and developer of the leading naval battle MMO World of Warships, is celebrating the spookiest season of the year with plenty of treats for players to dive into! Among these is a special collaboration with the iconic strategy game Heroes of Might and Magic III, with six new Commanders to take the helm and lead any fleet to victory. This update also introduces a festive “The Last Voyage of Transylvania” Operation for Halloween sure to make players shiver with fright, alongside three new Japanese battleships in Early Access and four vessels coming to the game just in time for Black Friday.

Might and Magic in World of Warships

Heroes of Might Magic III makes an exciting appearance just in time for the most mystical month of the year! Six new Commanders from the iconic turn-based strategy game come on October 19 in Warships to assert naval dominance over the high seas. Each of these Commanders comes equipped with their own unique voice-over, including original voice actors reprising their roles for Catherine Ironfist of the Castle and Sandro of the Necropolis. These high-fantasy captains all come with ten skill points, ready to lead any armada to victory. A new map directly inspired by Heroes of Might and Magic III can be found in the Armory where players will unlock the Commanders alongside various resources like credits, experience points, free access to a Premium account, and economic bonuses.

In addition, World of Warships has also introduced a special DLC bundle on sale at a 50% discount on Steam, which includes the iconic Commander Sandro, premium account access, and plenty of in-game bonuses, rewards, and credits. This bundle doesn’t just contain World of Warships DLC, though, as players will also receive a copy of Heroes of Might and Magic III HD Edition.

Three New Japanese Battleships

Dropping anchor in a newly updated Kure Port, Tier VIII Yumihari, Tier IX Adatara, and Tier X Bungo all sail into Early Access. Available for purchase via the Japanese token temporary resource, these ships encompass the signature high firing range and good accuracy of Japanese gun-bearing ships. Alongside their large-caliber main battery guns, these vessels have slots for either the “Fighter” or “Spotting Aircraft” consumables to accommodate their lower Hit Point pools. To celebrate these additions to the game, a themed collection has also been added, rewarding those who complete the 60-piece collection with a Mount Fuji Sunrise permanent camouflage for Yumihari.

Hair-raising Halloween Operations

This update also introduces plenty of creepy content just in time for Halloween! Alongside the addition of standard and Premium Jack-o’-Lantern Containers, a special, spooky Operation comes to the game. Running across regional servers from October 25 to November 9, this mission finds players escorting and defending Transylvania on her perilous journey to find and destroy a portal and prevent the Forces of Darkness from spreading any further. To compensate for this tricky predicament, ships of all types spanning Tier VIII-IX can participate in this year’s Halloween Operation – with the bonus of special modifiers to balance out performance.

Starting November 3, players can find additional Containers for Black Friday 2023 in the Armoury, and four new ships added to the game. This includes the highly requested American destroyer Black B and three other battleships and cruisers from Japanese, German, and Soviet navies.
