Watch the skies, Troopers! A film-favorite Arachnid is ready to crash the anniversary party. Offworld, in partnership with publisher Knights Peak, is celebrating two years of Starship Troopers: Extermination with Update 13 and the arrival of the flying Hopper Bug coming on October 22.

Introduced in the first Starship Troopers film (1997), Hopper Bugs are the fast-moving, winged counterparts to Warrior Bugs. They prey on isolated Troopers with sudden swooping attacks, grabbing victims and carrying them away. Their speed and ability to reach exposed positions make them a dangerous reminder that high ground offers little protection when the enemy can fly.

As in the film, the Hopper Bug will bring an aerial threat to the battlefield in Starship Troopers: Extermination’s Update 13, adding vertical combat pressure to base defense scenarios. These Bugs attack from above in tight formations, disrupting trooper lines and creating chaos. The Hopper Bug prefers to swoop down to strike isolated Troopers on high ground, carrying them into the air. Troopers must watch the skies, adapt their targeting priorities, and work together to bring them down and rescue captured teammates. But players beware: Hoppers remain a threat even in death. Just as the one shot down by Johnny Rico crushed General Owen in the movie (spoiler alert!), their falling bodies can deal serious damage to any Trooper caught beneath.

Offworld and Knights Peak will also release The Gore Supporter Pack, available to download on October 22 for 4.99$/EUR. This new Supporter Cosmetic Pack is for Troopers who want to take a bite out of the Arachnid Menace, and look good doing it.

Over the past 24 months, Starship Troopers: Extermination has delivered 13 free updates, marking two years of ongoing live ops support and the mission is far from over! At a time when long-term support is far from guaranteed, Offworld is continuing to invest in both the game and the community. With the original film’s 30th anniversary approaching next year and more content planned for the game in 2026, 2027, and beyond, the team is giving veteran Troopers and new recruits more reasons to return to the front lines.

Inspired by the Starship Troopers movie, Starship Troopers: Extermination is an up to 16-player co-op FPS with six unique classes that puts players on the far-off frontlines of an all-out battle against the Bugs. Squad up, grab your rifle and do your part as an elite Deep Space Vanguard Trooper to take back planets from the Arachnid threat. Starship Troopers: Extermination is available for PlayStation 5, Windows (Steam), and Xbox Series X/S.
