The magic and mischief of Auradon and Wonderland are returning to television screens this summer. Disney today debuted the highly anticipated official trailer, poster, and a brand-new musical track for Descendants: Wicked Wonderland, the latest installment in the globally successful Descendants franchise.

The sneak peek premiered on Good Morning America, setting the stage for the film’s official television debut on Thursday, July 16 on Disney Channel, followed by its streaming release the next day, July 17, on Disney+.

A New Threat in Wonderland

Picking up after the events of Descendants: The Rise of Red, the new film explores the unintended consequences of time travel. While the Queen of Hearts has turned kind and Cinderella is safe, altering the past has inadvertently birthed a new threat: Maddox Hatter.

When Maddox captures the Queen of Hearts, protagonists Red and Chloe are forced into action. To save her and rescue Wonderland, they must team up with an eclectic new generation of VKs (Villain Kids) and AKs (Action Kids), including Red’s new sister Pink, Luisa Madrigal’s son Luis, Captain Hook’s daughter Hazel, and Maddox’s son Max.

Villain Anthems and Soundtrack Details

Alongside the trailer, Disney dropped the film’s latest single, “Mad-Wicked Wonderland.” Positioned as the next entry in Disney’s long-standing tradition of memorable villain anthems, the track offers fans an auditory taste of the danger looming over Wonderland.

The song follows the success of the promotional single “Perfect Princess,” which racked up more than 12.36 million impressions across owned social platforms within its first five days. Promising more original tracks than any previous film in the franchise, the Descendants: Wicked Wonderland Original Soundtrack will release on July 17 via Walt Disney Records. Fans can already secure the album via Spotify pre-save and Apple Music pre-add.

Cast and Creative Team

The upcoming movie features a mix of returning favorites and high-profile franchise newcomers:

  • Returning Cast: Kylie Cantrall (Red), Malia Baker (Chloe), Leonardo Nam (Maddox Hatter), Melanie Paxson (Fairy Godmother), Paolo Montalban (King Charming), Rita Ora (the Queen of Hearts), and Brandy (Cinderella).

Behind the camera, Kimmy Gatewood (The Muppets Mayhem) serves as director and co-executive producer. The screenplay is penned by co-executive producer Tamara Chestna (Sneakerella) alongside Dan Frey and Ru Sommer (Descendants: The Rise of Red). Franchise veterans Suzanne Todd and Gary Marsh return as executive producers, while Emmy Award-winner Emilio Dosal (Wicked, Sneakerella) handles the franchise’s signature high-energy choreography.

A Powerhouse Franchise

Since its inception in 2015, the Descendants franchise has remained a dominant force in youth media. The original trilogy consistently ranked as the most-watched cable movies of their respective years, capturing nearly 1 billion hours of viewing time in the United States alone.

The momentum carried into 2024 with Descendants: The Rise of Red, which broke records on Disney+ as the most-watched original movie among Kids and Girls ages 6–11, generating over 9 billion lifetime views. The brand’s massive footprint was further cemented in 2025 during the sold-out, 40-arena Descendants/ZOMBIES Worlds Collide Tour across North America.

To accompany the film’s launch, Disney also confirmed a wave of new consumer products “coming soon,” featuring an official doll line from Mattel, alongside licensed costumes, apparel, and books.

For fans looking to catch up ahead of the July premiere, previous films and The Descendants/ZOMBIES Worlds Collide: Concert Special are currently streaming inside the dedicated Descendants Collection on Disney+.
