SEGA has announced that it is bringing back the Shinobi IP after an 8 year hiatus with Shinobi for the Nintendo 3DS. Due out in September of this year, Shinobi will serve as a prequel to the original Shinobi, with players in the booties of Jiro Musashi, father of the player character in the original game. It will also make use of the 3DS’ StreetPass functionality as well as feature achievements and unlocks.

“For years the fans have been asking for a new Shinobi,” said Gary Knight, Senior Vice President of Marketing of SEGA West. “With Shinobi on Nintendo 3DS we are able to answer their prayers and bring this legendary series to the next level.”
