Unknown Worlds announced a Free Weekend for Subnautica and a franchise-wide discount promotion ahead of Subnautica 2’s Early Access launch.
The Free Weekend offers new players the opportunity to dive into Subnautica and discover the game that kick-started the beloved franchise. Players can enjoy Subnautica for free on Steam and the Epic Games Store from April 2 to April 6. On Xbox, a Free Play Days event will run from April 9 to April 12.
A special discount on the series will also be available during this period. On Steam, Subnautica and Subnautica: Below Zero will each be available at 75% off from April 2 to April 9. On the Epic Games Store, the same discount applies from March 31 to April 7. On Xbox, both titles will be available at 50% off from April 2 to April 15.
Ted Gill, CEO of Unknown Worlds, said, “If you haven’t had the chance to explore the Subnautica universe yet, we welcome you to try it for free. And if you enjoy the experience, please join us for Subnautica 2’s Early Access, coming soon.”
Subnautica 2 is the official sequel to the Subnautica series, which helped define the ocean survival genre and has sold 18.5 million copies worldwide. Leaving behind Planet 4546B, the setting of the previous titles, the sequel takes place on a completely new alien planet and brings its uncharted ecosystems to life with visuals powered by Unreal Engine 5. For the first time in the series, it also introduces optional co-op for up to four players, allowing teammates to devise survival strategies together and share the rewards of exploration. Since September 2025, the title has topped Steam’s wishlist and is regarded as one of the most anticipated games of 2026.
