You hear the Cathedral bells ring in the distance… It’s with immense excitement and chills down our spine we share the news of Cathedral, the new collaborative album from John Carpenter, Cody Carpenter, and Daniel Davies, set to release August 7th on Sacred Bones Records alongside Carpenter’s first ever graphic novel, out August 4th via Storm King Comics.
Cathedral is a fully immersive project, tying in soundtrack and visual narratives from John Carpenter’s dreamscape. Inspired by a vividly cinematic dream he had in 2024, the story centers on an abandoned church in downtown Los Angeles that shifts from a forgotten building to the site of a waking nightmare.
It was so cinematic and vivid. I thought, ‘I have to score this.’ It’s kind of our first heavy metal album.
—John Carpenter
Especially designed as the soundtrack to the graphic novel, each track corresponds to a specific section of the book. The liner notes included with the album packaging feature prompts for each track, creating a fully interactive experience. Combined with the graphic novel, it’s the closest thing to a new John Carpenter film in years.
