homeworld-remastered

TEXAS — Jan. 25, 2015 — Amid its large-scale presence at the PAX South gaming convention in San Antonio, independent developer Gearbox Software offered a glimpse of Homeworld Remastered Collection, the long-awaited, ultra high-definition remastering of the acclaimed strategy series. The Texas-based developer also announced that the game will be released for PC on February 25, 2015 (yes, just a month away) with pre-orders open now on Steam for $34.99 — currently just $29.74 with a 15% pre-order discount.

Homeworld Remastered Collection updates and introduces the landmark space strategy games to modern audiences. The collection includes Homeworld and Homeworld 2, painstakingly remastered by Gearbox in cooperation with key members of the original development team and members of the series’ passionate fan community. As a free bonus, this collection also includes the original versions of Homeworld and Homeworld 2 with compatibility updates, preserving the purest form of the original releases. Anyone who purchases Homeworld Remastered Collection will also receive free access to the Homeworld Remastered Steam Multiplayer Beta when the collection releases on February 25, 2015.

The Homeworld series has a long legacy and is regarded by many as one of the best strategy series of all time. Following its release in 1999 by publisher Sierra and developer Relic Entertainment, Homeworld received several Game of the Year awards and redefined the RTS genre. Its sequel, Homeworld 2, launched in 2003, and was similarly praised by critics for its innovative controls and changes to multiplayer. Brian Martel, Gearbox Software’s Chief Creative Officer, has great love and respect for Relic’s brilliant, fun and innovative franchise and personally spearheaded Gearbox Software’s acquisition of Homeworld from THQ in 2013.

The first-ever gameplay footage – shown this weekend to a packed room at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio and available here on YouTube – highlights the extensive effort that has gone into updating the games for modern audiences. Homeworld Remastered Collection refreshes these tremendous games with new, high-resolution textures and models, the latest graphics-rendering technology, as well as a fully remastered score and new voice recordings from the original cast.

Gamers who purchase Homeworld Remastered Collection will also receive access to the Homeworld Remastered Steam Multiplayer Beta, which kicks off alongside Homeworld Remastered Collection on February 25, 2015. Competitive multiplayer modes for Homeworld and Homeworld 2 have been joined to offer players access to races, maps and game modes from both games in one integrated multiplayer experience. This beta combines code from over 15 years ago with newly-written changes, and will be shaped by fan feedback as development progresses.

“Homeworld is among the greatest strategy games in history, and we’re very proud of the work our team has put into bringing this exceptional series to modern PCs,” said Brian Martel, Chief Creative Officer at Gearbox Software. “We received a lot of great feedback from the passionate Homeworld fan community, and we hope to deliver a game they – and new fans from around the world – can get lost in for countless hours to come.”

In addition to re-releasing Homeworld and Homeworld 2 in both Classic and Remastered form, Gearbox Software has paired with Blackbird Interactive – a studio founded by Homeworld veterans Rob Cunningham and Aaron Kambeitz – to create an all-new entry in the Homeworld series for PC. Titled “Homeworld Shipbreakers,” the upcoming strategy game takes place before the events of the first Homeworld and serves as a prequel to the series. More information on Shipbreakers will be announced as development progresses.

“It is a very special and rare thing to see a project so close to your heart not only get re-released, but remastered with such loving care and attention,” said Rob Cunningham, who co-founded Relic Entertainment and served as the original art director of Homeworld . He later co-founded Blackbird Interactive, which is developing Homeworld Shipbreakers. “That fact alone is a wonderful privilege for me, but it is beyond rare to be working on an all-new entry as well! I have been sucked into a bubbling time-vortex hot tub of Homeworld – and I love it.”

Madden NFL 15 Predicts Patriots Win at Super Bowl XLIX

ea-sports-sb-pred

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – January 26, 2015 – Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA) today released the official Madden NFL 15 Super Bowl Prediction pitting the New England Patriots vs. the Seattle Seahawks. The prediction calls for a tightly-contested game between the two teams, coming down to a heroic play in the final drive to seal the win. The prediction sees New England’s offense overcoming the Seahawks’ defense to pull out a 28-24 victory.

The Patriots kicked off the scoring early, marching down the field on their first possession and capping it off with a 21-yard touchdown pass from Tom Brady to Rob Gronkowski. Seattle would answer with a field goal later in the quarter, keeping the game close heading into the 2nd.

New England and Seattle traded TDs in the period, but as the Patriots attempted their final drive before the half the Seahawks’ vaunted secondary struck, with Earl Thomas III intercepting a pass intended for Gronkowski and returning it 58 yards for a touchdown. With that pick the Seahawks took the lead into halftime, 17-14.

Coming out of the locker room Seattle kept momentum on their side by scoring on their first possession with a 9-yard touchdown run by Marshawn Lynch. The Patriots were on the ropes, but they came out swinging and Tom Brady once again found Rob Gronkowski for a touchdown from 14 yards out.

The 4th quarter was a defensive battle, with neither team able to put points on the board early. Late in the game Patriots cornerback Darrelle Revis made his presence known, intercepting a Russell Wilson pass and giving the Pats one last chance to win. In the waning seconds Tom Brady hooked up with Julian Edelman, who managed to slip out of a tackle and make a break for the end zone. Kam Chancellor sprinted toward Edelman to try and make a Super Bowl-saving tackle, but the speedy Edelman dove into the Promised Land as time expired, securing victory.

Tom Brady was named MVP of the game thanks to his 335 yard, 4-touchdown performance, his third such honor. Julian Edelman led all receivers with 8 catches for 106 yards, while Marshawn Lynch proved to be unstoppable on the ground with 118 yards and 2 touchdowns.

The Madden NFL 15 Super Bowl Prediction is created by simulating the Super Bowl Matchup with updated rosters on Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft and the official game console of the NFL. esl-logo

(Cologne, Germany) 23 January, 2014 – ESL, the world’s largest esports company, is set to once again gather the best Counter-Strike: Global Offensive teams from around the world, this time for ESL One Katowice 2015. The event, sponsored by top gaming industry leaders Intel and BenQ, marks the return of ESL One to Spodek Arena, where last year ESL hosted the first ever Counter-Strike: Global Offensive stadium event. The announcement comes off the back of ESL’s two US$250,000 community-funded Counter-Strike tournaments in 2014, which saw viewership records shattered on both occasions.

As part of the Intel® ESL Expo, ESL One Katowice 2015 is to be significantly larger than in the previous year. Having expanded into the hall next door, esports competition will be spread across the 8,000m2 exhibition center for the first three days, alongside Intel Extreme Masters competition. The Counter-Strike finals are set to take place on the main stage in Spodek Arena in front of a total of over 10,000 spectators.

When we took ESL One to Katowice last year, we saw some absolutely fantastic games and experienced a great atmosphere. – Particularly when Virtus.pro, a Polish team, were crowned champions in front of their home crowd,” said Ulrich Schulze, Managing Director of Pro Gaming at ESL. “Since then CS:GO has made incredible progress and we are honoured to once again have been given the opportunity to host a CS:GO Major with a US$250,000 prize purse. The chance to host it in an arena as memorable as Spodek is an added bonus.”

A total of sixteen teams will battle for US$250,000 in winnings come March 12-15: eight of the sixteen finalists have earned their spot as ‘legends’ based on past performance with a further eight ‘challengers’ yet to battle through a combination of online and offline qualifiers. Unlike previous ESL One events, the final stage of these ‘challenger’ qualifiers will take place offline in Katowice on February 14th and 15th.

Information regarding qualifiers and more can be found over at www.esl-one.com

Game of Thrones – Episode Two: The Lost Lords First Look

gameofthrones

January 25, 2015 — Based on the award-winning HBO television drama series, Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series tells the story of House Forrester. Caught up in the events of The War of the Five Kings, they are placed in a precarious position where members of the household must do everything they can to prevent the house from meeting its doom.

“The Lost Lords,” the second episode in the critically-acclaimed game series, will be available Tuesday, February 3rd on PC and Mac from the Telltale Online Store, Steam, and other digital distribution services, and on the PlayStation®Network for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3. The episode will be available on Wednesday, February 4th on the Xbox Games Store for Xbox One® and Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft. The series will also be coming to compatible iOS devices via the App Store on Thursday, February 5th and to compatible Android-based devices.

The game series is based on the world, characters and events seen in HBO’s TV show, which in turn is based on George R. R. Martin’s books (A Song of Ice and Fire). The events in the game series begin towards the end of Season Three of the series, and end right before the beginning of Season Five. Players will visit familiar locations such as King’s Landing and The Wall, as well as unfamiliar locations such as Ironrath, the home of House Forrester.

House Forrester is a noble house from the Wolfswood in the north of Westeros. Bannermen to House Glover, they have always offered unswerving loyalty to the ruling great house of the North – the Starks. The Forresters are seated at Ironrath, an imposing stronghold surrounded by towering ironwood trees. Built over fifteen hundred years ago by Cedric Forrester and his triplet sons, Ironrath is a testament to the strength and endurance of ironwood. The Forrester house words are ‘Iron from Ice’, which echoes their belief that – like the ironwood itself – the adverse conditions and unforgiving landscape of the North only makes them stronger.

The game will be played from five different points of view. Each is a member of House Forrester; either a direct family member, or a person in service to the House. Scattered across Westeros and Essos, each will play their part in seeking to save House Forrester from destruction.

Playing as five characters not only reflects the epic scope of Game of Thrones, but is also something that the player needs to be mindful of. This is because the actions of one character can ripple out to affect the rest of House Forrester. Multiply the actions of one character by five, and you’re truly playing the Game of Thrones… where you win, or you die.

Microsoft’s Windows 10 Brief Reveals Holographics, Xbox One Streaming, and More

win10_holoLens_livingRoom_Web

REDMOND, Wash. — Jan. 21, 2015 — Microsoft Corp. on Wednesday unveiled a new generation of Windows, with a wide range of experiences designed to usher in a new era of more personal computing, as well as two new devices designed to extend the Windows experience from large screens to no screens. Windows 10 will be delivered as a service to offer a safer, innovative and updated experience for the supported lifetime of the device. A free upgrade1 for Windows 10 will be made available to customers running Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1, who upgrade in the first year.

“Windows 10 marks the beginning of the more personal computing era in the mobile-first, cloud-first world,” said Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft. “Our ambition is for the 1.5 billion people who are using Windows today to fall in love with Windows 10 and for billions more to decide to make Windows home.”

Windows 10: Making computing more personal

Windows 10 marks the beginning of the more personal computing era, where technology disappears and people are at the center. In this era, the mobility of the experience matters, not the mobility of the device, and experiences should work in a seamless, familiar way across devices. People should be able to naturally interact with technology as they interact with other people — with voice, gestures and gaze. Protecting privacy plays a pivotal role in delivering trustworthy experiences that put people in control of their experience.

On Wednesday, Microsoft showcased a variety of new experiences coming to Windows 10, including the following:

Cortana comes to PC and tablet. The Cortana personal digital assistant, which debuted on Windows Phone last year, will now also be available on Windows 10 PCs and tablets to help people get things done.2 Cortana is a personal helper who learns an individual’s preferences to provide relevant recommendations, fast access to information and important reminders, bringing what matters most to their attention. Interaction is natural and easy via talking or typing, with advanced features to control Cortana for more trustworthiness and transparency.

New browser “Project Spartan” puts the Web to work, for you. Windows 10 will feature the new Microsoft browser, code-named “Project Spartan,” which was built with interoperability in mind. With key features built-in natively to the browser, it will enable greater reliability and better discoverability. Some of the most advanced features in the browser include the ability to annotate whether by keyboard or pen directly on the webpage and easily share with friends; a reading view that is distraction-free, displaying the article in a simplified layout for a great reading experience for Web articles online and offline; and the integration of Cortana for finding and doing things online faster. All of this is offered with a new look and feel built just for Windows 10.

Xbox Live and the new Xbox app bring new gaming experiences to Windows 10. Xbox on Windows 10 lets gamers and developers access the best of the expansive Xbox Live gaming network on both Windows 10 PCs and Xbox One. Players can capture, edit and share their greatest gaming moments with Game DVR, and play new games with friends across devices, connecting millions of gamers around the world. Games developed for the new DirectX 12 application programming interface in Windows 10 will see improvements in speed, efficiency and graphics capability. Players will also be able to play games on their PC, streamed directly from their Xbox One consoles to their Windows 10 tablets or PCs, within their home.3

win10_windows_startscreen2_Web

Office for Windows 10. Office universal apps on Windows 10 deliver a touch-first experience across devices. New versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and Outlook are designed from the ground up to run on Windows, built for touch, and offer the unmistakable Office experience customers know and love. With the familiar features for Office, people can create and edit Word documents with ease. New inking features in PowerPoint let people annotate slides in real time, and the new touch-first controls in Excel make it easy to create and update spreadsheets without a keyboard or mouse. The next version of the Office desktop suite is also currently in development and Microsoft will have more to share in the coming months.

Additional Windows 10 features and innovations shared today include the following:

  • Continuum mode. On 2-in-1 devices, Windows 10 will move easily between keyboard and mouse and touch and tablet as it detects the transition and conveniently switches to the new mode.
  • New universal apps. Windows 10 will offer new experience applications, consistent across the device continuum, for Photos, Videos, Music, Maps, People & Messaging and Mail & Calendar. These built-in apps have an updated design that looks and feels the same from app to app and device to device. Content is stored and synced through OneDrive, enabling people to start something on one device and continue it on another.

“Everything about Windows 10 — the experiences, delivering it as a service and the free upgrade — means that Windows 10 isn’t just another product, it’s an ongoing relationship — one that will give ongoing value to all our customers,” said Terry Myerson, executive vice president of the Operating Systems group at Microsoft. “The new generation of Windows is a commitment — a commitment to liberate people from complex technology and enable them to do great things.”

Windows 10: Powering innovation, inspiring new computing platforms

Windows 10 adapts to the devices customers are using — from Xbox to PCs and phones to tablets and tiny gadgets — and what they’re doing with a consistent, familiar and compatible experience. Windows 10 will run across an incredibly broad set of devices — from the tiniest of sensors as part of the Internet of Things, to servers in enterprise datacenters worldwide. Some devices have 4-inch screens, some have 80-inch screens and some don’t have screens at all. On Wednesday, Microsoft unveiled two devices that will empower customers to experience Windows in incredible new ways.

Windows 10 unlocks holographic future with Microsoft HoloLens

Microsoft shared a revolutionary example of how Windows 10 enables a shift from the traditional machine-centric view of computing to an interaction that is much more personal and humanistic. As the world’s first holographic computing platform, Windows 10 includes a set of APIs that enable developers to create holographic experiences in the real world. With Windows 10, holograms are Windows universal apps, and all Windows universal apps can also work as holograms — making it possible to place three-dimensional holograms in the physical world and enabling new ways to communicate, create and explore that are more personal and human.

microsoft-holo-lens

To showcase the possibilities of holograms in Windows 10, Microsoft unveiled the most advanced holographic computer in the world. Microsoft HoloLens is the first untethered holographic computer — no wires, phones or connection to a PC needed. Microsoft HoloLens features see-through holographic high-definition lenses and spatial sound so you can view and hear holograms in the world around you. Complete with advanced sensors, a next-generation system on a chip and the addition of a completely new Holographic Processing Unit (HPU) that understands what you are doing and the world around you, Microsoft HoloLens is able to run without any wires while processing terabytes of data from the sensors in real time.

By placing three-dimensional holograms in the world around you, Microsoft HoloLens provides a new view into your reality that can tell what you are looking at and understand what you are saying with your hands and voice. By putting you at the center of the computing experience, Microsoft HoloLens allows you to create, access information, enjoy entertainment and communicate in new and exciting ways.

New Microsoft Surface Hub optimizes Windows 10 experience for groups

Windows 10 is powering a new large-screen device to help teams in the workplace share, ideate and create together. Hardware innovations in multi-touch and digital inking, along with built-in cameras, sensors and microphones, allow the Surface Hub to take advantage of Windows 10, Skype for Business and Office 365 to deliver a new experience designed to make every person — whether remote or onsite — feel as if they’re in the same collaborative space. Specifically, the Surface Hub features state-of-the-art digital white boarding; instant remote conferencing; the ability for multiple people to share and edit content on the screen from a laptop, tablet or phone; and a trusted platform for large-screen apps. Available in two sizes — 55-inch and 84-inch — the Surface Hub removes the current limitations of traditional conference room scenarios to empower teams to create their best work together.

The next Technical Preview for Windows 10 on the PC will be available for free to Windows Insiders in the next week and for the first time on phones later in February. More information on the Windows Insider Program and the Technical Previews can be found at http://preview.windows.com.
