UNITED 1944 – Survivor Mode Gameplay Overview

After a very successful beta playtest that kicked off in late September, developer Novarama is once again opening the doors to its crafting and building-oriented WWII shooter for an even longer time. Steam Next Fest kicks off today, and with it, we call everyone to the fight starting now and lasting until the celebrations end on October 16. The new Survivors mode, just introduced last month but quickly loved by players, makes a return, and we have an overview video if you haven’t watched it yet:

The classic domination matches are here. Squad up in 16v16 battles in the WWII theaters of France, where the push inward of the Allies was at its peak after D-Day, and of North Africa, where battles for control of large regions had an important effect in changing the tide of war. You’ll be scavenging for resources, fortifying bases, defending outposts, crafting your gear and fighting the enemy in WWII battles that aim to be realistic yet rooted in fun gameplay.

The recently introduced Survivors mode, which brings an extraction experience to the game, also makes a return after a very positive reception from players. This mode takes the scavenging and open construction approach to a whole new level of tension. It’s a dog-eat-dog world: everyone is an enemy, and your only means of staying alive is what you can find around you. Look for resources, explore the city, and set up improvised bases anywhere as you fight for survival. Build, raid, kill, steal, scavenge, and destroy as you need for survival. Play for as long as you want, do your best to stay standing, and extract with as much loot as you’re capable of. Will you become a survivor of World War II… or will your bones be buried forever in this city?

The online demo runs for a full week during the entirety of Steam Next Fest, starting now and ending on Monday October 16 at 10 am PDT. Servers will be located in Europe, North America, and Asia to ensure that all players in these regions get a smooth experience in the battle trenches. This time, you won’t need to request access if you’re new to UNITED 1944, as you can simply download the demo from the game’s Steam page and go straight into battle after a short bootcamp session to teach you the basics.

Twitch drops make a return this time, and everyone watching creators streaming the game during Steam Next Fest will be able to get a weapon charm and a character outfit.

Foxhole: Naval Warfare Expands The Fight From Land to Sea

Siege Camp has officially unveiled the next major update for the massively multiplayer war game, Foxhole. After countless operations on land, the war effort will expand to the seas on October 26th with the upcoming update, Naval Warfare. Step onto the decks of battleships, invade distant shores in high-stakes beach landings, and conquer new island-based territories with thousands of players.

Naval Warfare will engage players in full-fledged naval battles. Across Gunboats, Destroyers, and awe-striking Battleships, soldiers will climb aboard player-built fleets with dozens of players on deck simultaneously. Deliver ammunition, launch depth charges, and deploy sea mines, all while maintaining and regulating ship systems, such as the engines, sonar, and navigation. Players must band together both above and below deck to outmaneuver enemy vessels.

Prepare for intense fleet battles, where moment to moment decisions can be the difference between victory and defeat. Individual ship subsections can be targeted and destroyed causing compartments to become flooded. In the heat of battle, seawater must be bailed out and leaks repaired to stay afloat. The largest threats may loom unseen, as submarines can ambush convoys and thwart naval invasions before they begin. Coordination and communication will be vital when balancing the many hazards that await players in the depths.

The scope and scale of the persistent world has been expanded with the return of water-based regions. Storm beaches with amphibious landing crafts and construct portable harbors to support troops as they fight their way through enemy bunkers, trenches, and emplacements. Logistics forces have also been upgraded with new vessels for sea-based operations and towable field weapons provide increased mobility. This expanded naval game, combined with island warfare, sets the stage for enthralling new campaigns that now span both land and sea.

Naval Warfare simply marks the next chapter of Foxhole. Siege Camp will continue to redefine the massively multiplayer genre across both Foxhole and the upcoming Anvil Empires.

The Lamplighters League and the Tower at the End of the World

Paradox Interactive and Harebrained Schemes today released The Lamplighters League and the Tower at the End of the World, the globetrotting tactical turn-based strategy game, for PC and Xbox Series X|S. Players can purchase the base game for a suggested retail price of $49.99 / £41.99 / €49.99, or purchase the Deluxe Edition, which includes an exclusive recruitable Agent, on Steam, Epic, Xbox, and the Microsoft Store. The game is also available today via Xbox Game Pass.

Harebrained Schemes, creators of the Shadowrun trilogy and BATTLETECH, bring The Lamplighters League to life as an original pulp adventure set in an alternate 1930s. Players build their Agent rosters from a rag-tag team of misfits, ranging from bank-robbing gunfighters to mind-controlling assassins, to thwart the plans of world domination by the Banished Court. Players take on high-stakes Missions, committing up to four Agents to unlock rewards and progress the story. Between Missions, Agents can go on Expeditions to gain Intel, locate new allies, and secure leads on campaign-critical heists, affecting how players strategize around each scenario they face.

The Banished Court comes prepared with more resources, personnel, and weapons than the player’s group of criminals and outcasts. The difficulty level dynamically adapts in response to players’ actions, adding more foes and increasing combatant health to challenge daring Agents. The Lamplighters League’s captivating soundtrack, Composed by the award-winning Jon Everist, amplifies the retro atmosphere, reacts to gameplay, and enhances the thrill of each mission. Those with the best strategy earn high-value rewards, expanding their strategic options and ultimately changing their Agent’s fate.

“The Lamplighters League is a special game for Harebrained Schemes,” said Chris Rogers, Game Director at Harebrained Schemes. “Thanks to the talents of a great team, we’re bringing an original game world to life. Adventuring in our alternate 1930s feels comfortable, accessible, and fresh, and we’ve done our best to use the lessons we learned creating the Shadowrun trilogy and BATTLETECH to bring you a fun, engaging, and rewarding tactical experience. Each of the scoundrels in The Lamplighters League has a unique approach to combat, and players will get hours and hours of fun replaying the game using them in different combinations.”

Enshrouded Steam Next Fest Demo Out October 9th

Keen Games is excited to reveal that their first self-published title Enshrouded will be participating in the Steam Next Fest, happening October 9 to 16, 2023 with a demo of the game’s first few hours. Get a glimpse of what the demo has to offer in a new gameplay trailer. This Steam Next Fest demo marks the first time the game will be playable by the public ahead of its highly anticipated Early Access Launch.

The demo will feature hours of content with a wide range of gameplay possibilities that players can customize to suit their personal adventuring style: building, fighting, befriending with the first Legendary artisan, the Blacksmith, exploring, terraforming, tearing down, leveling up, and more. Within the pre-defined demo area, eager players will be able to construct, combat and craft in, either co-op or solo gameplay.

Begin your demo anew as the Flameborn recently awakened to the devastated lands of Embervale, constructing Flame Altars to aid your quest in discovering the riches and ruin left, including the mysterious, lingering fog hovering over the land. The developers are particularly eager to encourage newcomers to the survival genre to try the free demo, given Enshrouded’s relaxed approach to survival elements — rather than perishing due to lack of preventative measures, players can get by and receive buffs from utilizing resources like food and shelter, or by venturing into villages for NPC companions and enemies to loot. Yes, in the demo players can even enter into the corrosive fog, if feeling brave enough.

Anyone wishing to dig into particular elements of Enshrouded gameplay ahead of the demo should check out the three gameplay deep-dives on combat, building & terraforming, and survival & exploration. Those familiar with Keen Games’ previous release, Portal Knights, can expect the same level of voxel-engine sandbox fun, this time set against a post-apocalyptic, fantasy-inspired domain.
