Rebellion Brings Limited Edition Judge Dredd Posters to San Diego Comic-Con 2023

The greatest future city is coming to the greatest show on Earth – Rebellion is pleased to announce that an exclusive limited edition Judge Dredd fine art poster by Matt Ferguson is coming to San Diego Comic Con next month.

Fresh from promotional movie posters for Marvel Studios and Star Wars, Ferguson plunges us into the violent, crime-ridden megalopolis of Mega-City One as Judge Dredd stands ready to dispense justice – a hyper-cop for the hyper-future.

This is the poster drop for San Diego Comic Con – a stunning 24” x 36” offset litho fine art poster printed on gorgeous 300gsm Accent Recycled stock, with each copy individually numbered and limited to just 400 copies in color.

Also available will be a super-limited variant edition – a special ‘black, white and Dredd’ with vivid reds picked out against the monochrome of the nightmare urban noir, in an edition of 100.

It is the first time Rebellion has offered such a high-end poster as its exclusive Comic Con merch and copies of both variants will be available exclusively from the Rebellion booth (#2121) at San Diego Comic Con starting on Previews Night on Wednesday, July 19. Sales are limited to 50 copies a day for the color edition and 10 of the black and white, available each day of the show, including Previews Night.

For subscribers to 2000 AD, 150 copies of the color edition and 50 of the black and white edition will also be available to buy direct through the 2000 AD webshop at shop.2000AD.com from 12pm BST (4am PST) on Thursday, July 20.

To create this vision of the city created by John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra, Ferguson has drawn on over 45 years of Judge Dredd comics from the legendary British comic book powerhouse 2000 AD. This poster comes packed with Easter eggs for fans old and new – from signs advertising the ‘ugly clinics’ of Otto Sump and Mega-City One’s ‘Smokatorium’, to a raging Block War, and including the names of the greatest creators to ever work on Judge Dredd such as John Wagner, Carlos Ezquerra, Brian Bolland and Ron Smith.

A graphic designer and artist from Sheffield in the UK, Matt is best known for working with Marvel Studios and Disney, including designing key artwork for many MCU films and official Star Wars promotional posters. He is the co-founder and Creative Director of Vice Press, has had exhibitions at galleries in the US and UK – including Bottleneck Gallery – and is well known in the industry for his beautifully stylised creations for established film and TV properties.

Matt said: “I have been a long time fan of 2000 AD and Judge Dredd and I always love working in that universe of comics, so it was great to apply techniques I would typically use for a movie poster on a project like this. It’s always fun to pack posters with easter eggs and Mega-City One is perfect for such a poster. Get wise! Get Ugly!”

The 24” x 36” offset litho fine art poster by Matt Ferguson is an edition of 400 with a black-and-white variant of edition of 100, available from Booth #2121 at San Diego Comic Con (July 19-23) and exclusively for 2000 AD and Judge Dredd Megazine subscribers from shop.2000AD.com from 12pm BST (4am PST) on Thursday, July 20.

Suffer the Night Reveals Launch Date and New Screenshots

Something floppy this way comes… On April 17th, prepare for horror so blood-curdling it can only be caused by an old, cursed floppy disk. From Assemble Entertainment and developer Tainted Pact, Suffer the Night brings a horrifying haunting to Steam with all of the campy 80s slasher goodness you could ask for, plus the added bonus of classic dungeon crawler gameplay. Do you have what it takes to survive, or will you indeed…suffer the night?

To coincide with today’s launch date announcement, the developer has revealed a new set of dread-inducing screenshots, as well as all-new artwork for the game.

In Suffer the Night, players take on the role of Stacey Liden, a painter who specializes in horror illustrations in her isolated woods-bound cabin. After receiving an envelope containing a mysterious floppy disk, Stacy boots it up on her old Eldrixon personal computer and begins playing. As she progresses through the terror of the text-based adventure, she’s visited by a mysterious and threatening stranger, urging her to finish the game. The strange and horrifying things within the game begin leaking into the real world…will Stacey survive, or will she succumb to the terrors around her? Only one thing is for certain: don’t let him get in.

Key Features of Suffer the Night

  • Horror Beyond Comprehension: A highlight of this title is the text-based dungeon crawler “game within a game” filled with grisly scenarios and vivid descriptions of the atrocities wherein. Players will need to flex their old-school gaming muscles to progress within the stories, both inside the Eldrixon and out.
  • Don’t Let Him In: While playing through the floppy disk game, the mysterious figure who delivered it isn’t shy about making his presence known. Be sure to address any…interruptions…he causes, or suffer the consequences.
  • A Chilling Combination: Suffer the Night expertly weaves two genres of horror games into one, balancing the chilling anxiety of the text-based adventure with the dread of first-person survival horror

Preview of the 2023 Knott’s Boysenberry Festival

Recently, we were able to attend a special preview event for the upcoming Boysenberry Festival at Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park, CA. It was a cold, cloudy evening just a day after the recent Winter storm which saw snow fall upon the park. While the snow had quickly melted, there were plenty of special treats remaining to try out at the event. Our walk through Ghost Town was eerie without any guests in the area, and the light all dim it whispered echoes of Scary Farm’s past. We found the check-in table inside the Town Hall building and got our event lanyards.

Upon walking into the Wilderness Dance Hall, a venue that has been home to countless Knott’s Scary Farm mazes, special events, and more we were treated to a grand table filled with examples of the delectable treats to be found at the Boysenberry Festival. Unfortunately, we couldn’t eat all of it, but that will come soon enough when the event starts on March 10th. We did get a sampling of various food and drink options, which we definitely enjoyed! Our standout favorites were the Boysenberry Margarita and the Sausage with Boysenberry Mustard. These were delightful snacks that I would definitely purchase again when visiting the park. The beef tips with boysenberry BBQ sauce and parmesan grits were outstanding as well, and I could have eaten three more plates of them and still craved more. The only item we didn’t really enjoy was the fried corn nuggets – they just didn’t land for us due in part to the texture of the fried batter and the still-firm corn kernels within. The food table was brimming with treats and there were so many that we didn’t get to sample but can’t wait to do so once the event starts. For me, it’s definitely the Boysenberry Float and the Pancake Burger. They look amazing, I just hope the lines won’t be too backed up waiting for them.

We also got a chance to look at the various merchandise products that are being released for the Boysenberry Festival. The big showpiece of the merchandise table is the new bubble wand that the park is releasing. Adorned with a light-up boysenberry, the wand throws out bubbles at an alarming rate. These are sure to be the joy of the young kids in your party during your visit. As for the adults in the park, prepare yourself for bubblegeddon! Also of interest were the Boysenberry Festival umbrella as well as light-up boysenberry necklace. We have a large collection of light-up Halloween and Christmas necklaces and we can’t wait to add a set of these to the mix. The boysenberry lights were vibrant even in the lit Wilderness Dance Hall, and think they will be almost as popular as the bubble wand will be.

Overall, the Knott’s Berry Farm Boysenberry Festival Preview Event was a fun time filled with delightful treats and sneak peeks. The full Boysenberry Festival event begins on March 10th, 2023 and runs until April 16th, 2023. Expect a full report from the opening day of the event soon enough! In the meantime, be sure to check out our photo gallery below!

Super Nintendo World Review – Step into the Mushroom Kingdom

The folks at Universal Studios Hollywood had us out for a special media day opportunity to experience Super Nintendo World before its official opening. Being shuttled down into the park’s Lower Lot area, we were so excited for all that awaited us. We are long-time gamers who are old enough to have played the original Super Mario Bros. game on the NES Nintendo Entertainment System. My personal favorite of the franchise was Super Mario Bros. 3 but I loved all of them. We walked off our shuttle, picked up a complimentary Power-Up Band (a big thanks to Universal for gifting us one) and headed into the most eye-popping theme park area I have seen in quite some time. But, does Super Nintendo World work? Is it fun? Will non-gamers appreciate it? Read on to find out!

Toadstools

What works?

Super Nintendo World features SO MUCH amazing stuff. First thing of note is the overall design and art direction of the entire area. It’s like they took a slice out of the Nintendo games themselves and brought it to life. Everything is so vibrant and lush. The mini-games scattered across Super Nintendo World are a lot of fun and the food offerings over at the Toadstool Cafe are super tasty. During our visit, I had the spaghetti and Princess Peach cupcake: Simply delicious! I usually frequent the Three Broomsticks when I visit Universal Studios Hollywood but I would have no reservations about eating at the Toadstool Cafe instead – that is, of course, if I could get into the land now that it is open to the public! I have a feeling it is going to be a very busy place.

Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge is one of the most vibrant and rich dark rides I have ever experienced. The displays and projection effects used throughout are breathtaking as are the physical elements, props, and set design. During the ride, you’ll race through a variety of environments which will be familiar to gamers. You’ll even race along the rainbow bridge at the end of the ride. Of course, the gaming gimmick of Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge is there in the form of an augmented reality visor. You will shoot shells at what your AR visor is pointing at and gain coins throughout. At the end of the race, you’ll be able to compare your scores and boast (or bow your head in shame, depending).

The 1Up Factory is the gift shop that Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge exits into and is full of delightful Super Nintendo World Merchandise. I had to pick up some pins and a shirt during my visit and I am sure you will be able to find some fun goody for all the people in your party. The little stuffed Mario and Luigi plushies were adorable as well, but I digress…

Princess Peach

The Power-Up Band was an interesting element of gamification that I didn’t expect to work as well as it did. Throughout Super Nintendo World, you will find all sorts of bricks to hit and places to swipe your Power-Up Band in front of to gain coins. These bands sync with the Universal Studios smartphone app and make for a fun additional element to Super Nintendo World. They cost $40 dollars and can be purchased at various locations around Universal Studios. The Power-Up Band straps on to your wrist in the style of a 1980’s “slap” bracelet. It’s not the most secure fit – in fact, in the boss battle with Bowser Jr. attraction, they ask you to remove them so they don’t go flying off and hit another player. A big bonus of the band is that they do not require any charging so you can toss them in a drawer and pull it out for your Universal Studios visits without worrying about battery levels.

What doesn’t work?

Unfortunately, the biggest disappointment in Super Nintendo World has to be the augmented reality visors of Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge. The ride is SO beautiful, I just wish they moved more action to the projection effects and practical props. The big issue is that the AR visor field of view is very limited – so much so that things break into frame from short distances from your focal point. This happens so often that it becomes a distraction from all the amazing real life stuff going on around you sort of like a housefly or gnat suddenly flying into your field of view while you’re trying to appreciate a stunning vista. Half way through, I removed the AR visor and just looked through it occasionally to make sure I was getting what was happening. It’s not that the augmented reality gimmick of the attraction is a bad idea – quite the opposite, it’s just not a good idea right now. The AR technology needs a few more years to mature in order to allow wider fields of view. Having a wider field of view would allow the AR to be a lot more seamless and feel more natural.

Final Thoughts

Exiting Super Nintendo World through a big green pipe leads guests out into the Lower Lot across the circle from Jurassic World: The Ride. From there, we went back into the Upper Lot area and into Hogsmeade so my Sister could buy a new wand from the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Then we left the park, reflecting on all the fun that we had at this special look into Super Nintendo World. Whether or not you are a gamer and have (or have not) played any of the various video games, you’ll have such a fun time.

Super Nintendo World is an outstanding addition to the Universal Studios Hollywood theme park property. Now, if only they could make some room to bring in Diagon Alley from Universal Studios Orlando! Super Nintendo World is open now at Universal Studios Hollywood, check out the official website for ticket information, season pass information, and park hours.

Knott’s Berry Farm Peanuts Celebration 2023 Brings Charles M. Schulz Magic to Life

The Peanuts Celebration is back at Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park, CA. This year, guests can enjoy the decorative ambiance of the celebration as well as a variety of themed foods and shows! We got the chance to attend on January 28th and it was a nice, cool day. Upon entering the main gates, we ran into some fun Peanuts photo booths in the style of comic strips. We also happened upon a fun merchandise booth decked out to resemble Lucy’s Psychiatric help kiosk. In the booth, guests could purchase the official Peanuts Celebration and Pin combo as well as some other items. The event-specific shirt design is fun and energetic with plenty of Peanuts personality.

One thing that the Peanuts Celebration has in spades is shows! Over at the Ghost Town Town Hall guests will find To the Moon: Snoopy Soars with NASA. This exhibit showcases the role that Peanuts has played in NASA going back many decades. You might even find a photo opportunity with everyone’s favorite beagle, Snoopy himself! In the Bird Cage Theater, two shows that cycle throughout the day. One that I particularly enjoyed was Charlie Brown’s Trivia Challenge. This will test the audience’s knowledge of the Peanuts Gang as well as provide fun for everyone in your party. You can also find the Peanuts Sketch School which will teach everyone how to draw Peanuts characters. On the Calico Mine Stage, guests will be thoroughly entertained by Snoopy’s Legendary Rooftop Concert. This musical revue features The Jelly of the Month Club indie band as well as Peanuts characters – it’s a total howling good time! Also on the Calico Mine Stage is It’s Your Life, Charlie Brown which features Charlie Brown taking part in the classic game show It’s Your Life! There are even more shows to list but I’ll leave you to the park’s event website for that. Suffice it to say, your party will be well-entertained by what Knott’s has come up with for the Peanuts Celebration.

No Knott’s seasonal event would be complete without food and the Peanuts Celebration is no different. Throughout the park, guests will find that most of the food stops are offering up something fun and different. For instance, the Cornbread Funnel Cake with Honey and Pulled Pork was a favorite during our visit, and I really wanted to try the Berry French Toast Funnel Cake but simply couldn’t eat another bite – I got so filled up by everything. The Carrot Cake Churros with Cream Cheese Filling were a lot softer than those experienced in previous years and they are well worth purchasing. Also, if you are 21 or older, be sure to hit the Calico Saloon for a frosty Boysenberry Hef!

The topper of our visit to the Peanuts Celebration was being able to go through Pig-Pen’s Pig Pen – complete with little adorable piglets. In the Pig Pen you will also find Pig-Pen for a photo opportunity!

Photo Gallery

While the Peanuts Celebration is definitely not as transformative as most Knott’s Seasons of Fun events, it’s a welcome dressing of family fun over the usual amount of Knott’s Berry Farm offerings. I’d definitely recommend it – especially if you are a fan of Peanuts or have small children in your party. The Knott’s Berry Farm Peanuts Celebration is happening daily now through February 26, 2023. You can get park hours, ticket info, and more over at their official website.

As the story goes…the love of chocolate is at the core of Penelope’s family. Penelope, an innovator at heart, created Jacques, her trusty robot and confidant, to travel and explore the world. Upon returning to her small cottage home in London, England, after an extended trip abroad, Penelope discovered that her parents ventured out on a quest to find her, leaving a simple message – “We have set out to join you in your adventures. Surely the world isn’t so big that we can’t find you. We shall look for you wherever chocolate can be found.”

Thus, Penelope knew what she had to do. Armed with the insight she had on all things chocolate, Penelope created The Toothsome Chocolate Emporium & Savory Feast Kitchen. Her mission to share her passion and love of the sweet treat with the world was also grounded in the hope that one day her parents would find her.

Spectacularly dressed in Steampunk attire, Penelope and Jacques frequent The Toothsome Chocolate Emporium & Savory Feast Kitchen to await her parents’ arrival and to share their adventures and innovations with guests.

The Toothsome Chocolate Emporium & Savory Feast Kitchen is exclusive to Universal Parks & Resorts and is one of three worldwide locations, including Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Beijing Resort.
