Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 Meet The Hunters Dev Diary

In Dev Diary 17 we introduced you to the Anarchs, one of the enemy factions you will face. Tonight, we want to introduce another: the I.A.O.

The Information and Awareness Office spearheads the U.S. government’s response to the Blankbody threat. While officially defunded, it operates on a large black budget that allows its hunters to face the undead under the guise of “training missions” and “counter-terrorist strikes”.

Baker (1)

Agent Baker

“Does your kind still feel protective over the young? Do you still feel at all?”

Agent Baker is pragmatic and methodical. She leads the I.A.O. in its mission to investigate the Blankbody presence in Seattle. She doggedly follows up on any suspicious deaths or disappearances and re-examines historical events to achieve her goal: to understand the monsters that she hunts so their elimination can be absolute.

The agents under her command respect her and have given her a nickname, which she bears proudly: “Mother Hen.”

First and foremost the I.A.O. needed to represent a different type of enemy to those that the player would have already encountered in the game. As opposed to the rough and ready Anarch, I.A.O. are a highly trained paramilitary force hunting a very specific type of prey.

From their hard leather padded extremities or the glaring haze of the thermal weapons, we really wanted the I.A.O. to both look and feel like an adversarial force an elder vampire would think twice about before attacking.

I.A.O. are human and thus use technology and tactics to fight their foe, so it was important that we convey the range of enemies and the threat they pose to Phyre as visually and distinctly as possible. Ranged enemies have large, hooded ponchos framing their piercing eyes from range. The more up-front melee enemies have wide dynamic stances as they swing their thermal batons at you. The weapons are military grade so overall feel harder, heavier and built for a specific purpose. The I.A.O. may not have the perks of ghouls or vampires but they’re a formidable force, using technology to their advantage.

– Project Art Director Ben Matthews

IAO Lineup (1)

In one of my favourite quests to work on, Phyre explores an I.A.O. stronghold on Harbor Island which is heavily guarded both inside and out by I.A.O. agents.

It’s one of the game’s largest and most expansive combat areas, providing multiple ways to navigate the environment, as well as allowing you to tackle objectives in whichever order you choose. The I.A.O. have set up thermal shielding to block certain routes – touching or going near the shields will damage you. You will need to search Harbor Island to find a way of shutting them down, opening up more areas to explore.

I.A.O. agents are more organized than the other enemies you would have faced by this stage of the game. They patrol the facility in groups making it harder to pick them off one-by-one, and their use of night-vision goggles, searchlights, and personal radios requires you to be more strategic if you want to take them out without being spotted.

If you engage the I.A.O. in combat head-on they will use more militaristic tactics with better accuracy and knowledge of their weapons, knowing where to shoot you for the most damage. They wear combat armor, allowing them to take more damage than other humans, but are still weak compared to ghouls and vampires. They make up for their mortal frailty with an arsenal of anti-vampire weapons, which are the strongest you will face in the game: Thermal Batons for close combat, which unlike other enemies will cause damage if you hit them when they are blocking your attacks; Phosphor Grenades which create pools of burning damage to flush you out of hiding spots; and Sniper Crossbows which fire explosive bolts causing lots of damage if you don’t remove them in time.

A favourite tactic of mine is to catch the phosphor grenades or explosive bolts mid-air and throw them back for maximum carnage. It’s also a great quest for using a Ventrue’s Possession ability, getting an agent to attack one of their own and hearing the panicked screams of friendly fire.

– Senior Game Designer Martin Akehurst

Santiago

The I.A.O. aren’t the only hunters to feature in Bloodlines 2. There is evidence that an ancient hunter is active on the streets of Seattle.

In the early years of the 20th Century, many Kindred met their Final Deaths at the hands of a hunter known only as Santiago. Multiple coteries were wiped out in San Francisco and New Orleans, their destruction attributed to this same relentless pursuer. At the site of each incident, an ornate metal memento in the shape of a sharpened cross was left behind. Crucifixes of this form are called the Cross of St. James – hence the name given to this hunter.

Speculation persists that Santiago, whoever they truly were, was a member of the Society of Leopold, one of the most ancient and feared factions of hunters of the supernatural. If that were true, Santiago would have seen themselves as a soldier of Christ, waging a holy war against the Damned.

Dragon’s Lair: The Legend Re-Releases for the Nintendo Game Boy

Retro publisher Incube8 Games and development studio Elite are thrilled to announce the re-release of Dragon’s Lair: The Legend for the Nintendo Game Boy. First released in 1991, Dragon’s Lair: The Legend returns to handheld gaming in its original form, offering a chance for new players and longtime fans to experience the timeless adventure of Dirk the Daring. Dragon’s Lair: The Legend will be released in Complete-in-Box and Digital Edition formats; pre-orders are open, shipping in April.

About the Game

Dragon’s Lair: The Legend’s gameplay isn’t about slaying dragons or battling evil wizards—it’s about mastering jumps, dodging hazards, and keeping your cool when things go horribly wrong. Dirk must collect all 194 fragments of the Life Stone by journeying through 11 distinct regions, each packed with tricky platforming, moving platforms, and spike traps that will test even the bravest adventurers. There are no enemies to fight—just you, your reflexes, and the ever-present risk of mistiming a jump. If you still have lives left, you’ll respawn right where you fell. But if you run out? Well… let’s just say you’ll be getting very familiar with the starting screen.

This re-release of Dragon’s Lair: The Legend is based on the European (EU) version, which includes several adjustments that make the challenge slightly more manageable:

  • No Fall Damage: Unlike other versions, Dirk no longer dies from high falls, allowing for more freedom in platforming.
  • Extra Lives: For every 42 Life Stones collected, Dirk gains an extra life (up to a maximum of 10).
  • Refined Jumping Mechanics: Instead of infinite jumping by holding the button, players must tap repeatedly to achieve the same effect, preventing unintentional exploits.

The experience is based on the billion-dollar John Wick motion picture franchise, which franchise director Chad Stahelski produces with Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee at Thunder Road Films. Stahelski and his team at 87Eleven Entertainment were creative collaborators on the experience from design to special stunt work.

The JOHN WICK EXPERIENCE blends more than a dozen highly themed cinematic rooms, live interactions and interactive gameplay to create an immersive journey that transcends reality and challenges wit, skill and nerve. As guests step through the doors of the JOHN WICK EXPERIENCE, they find themselves in the fantastical underworld of John Wick, where they must navigate an all-new, high-stakes adventure.

To bring audiences into the world of Wick, Lionsgate and Stahelski worked closely with Egan Productions, the producer of the experience. A leading creator of escapes, attractions, and live events with more than 20 years of expertise in all aspects of production and operations, Egan is also Lionsgate’s collaborator on two other Las Vegas attractions based on the studio’s beloved IP: The Official SAW Escape, which opened in 2018 and has been named Best Escape Room by USA Today, and Escape Blair Witch, which opened in 2021.

“In the films, Chad Stahelski has created a complex, alternate reality with exquisite design, deep mythological influence and meticulous action,” said Jenefer Brown, Executive Vice President & Head of Global Products and Experiences at Lionsgate. “The most important part of creating this experience was honoring that and making sure that our guests truly feel like they are part of the world of the films. The experience delivers wholeheartedly on that promise, and we are excited to share it with fans.”

“The John Wick Experience drops you into the sleek, sophisticated world of The Las Vegas Continental,” said Jason Egan. “This is the ultimate destination for anyone seeking a unique and captivating Vegas experience, and a must-visit for John Wick fans.”

EVE Online: Revenant Expansion Receives Major Update

A wave of impactful updates, shaped by community and CSM discussions, has landed in New Eden. Addressing everything from capital ship production costs to Factional Warfare and force projection, these changes set the stage for a more balanced, engaging, and competitive universe.

Capsuleers,

A wave of impactful updates has landed in New Eden, addressing everything from capital ship production costs to Factional Warfare and force projection. These changes, shaped by community feedback and discussions with the CSM, set the stage for a more balanced, engaging, and competitive universe.

Industrial Overhaul

Manufacturing capital ships and Tech I battleships is now cheaper, reducing the resource strain and making fleet deployments more feasible. Lower costs mean less risk when bringing these hulls to battle, reinforcing their role in fleet warfare.

Mining Sovereignty Upgrades

Nullsec mining operations are seeing major boosts. Tier 1 and 2 mining sites now provide more ore from fewer but larger asteroids, reducing travel time and inefficiency. A new Tier 3 mining site, designed for capital-scale operations, offers enormous asteroids rich in resources. Mordunium refinement has been buffed to improve Pyerite availability, while Mercoxit yields increase across nullsec. Additionally, a new ORE deep core strip mining laser enhances efficiency for barges and exhumers, giving industrialists a powerful new tool for mining Mercoxit.

Factional Warfare: Seagulling Fix & Anti-Pirate Incentives

A critical fix is coming to Factional Warfare battlefield sites: payouts now require active participation, eliminating passive “seagulling” rewards for those who linger without engaging. This change is being tested on Battlefield sites before expanding to other areas. Additionally, anti-pirates can now claim new rewards, including valuable loot from Forward Operating Bases and roaming NPCs, increasing the stakes in Pirate Insurgencies.

Force Projection Adjustments

Ansiblex jump gates are becoming more vulnerable, creating new strategic opportunities for those looking to disrupt enemy logistics. Capsuleers using these gates will now land closer upon arrival, making them easier to intercept. Additionally, Ansiblex gates will no longer auto-repair and must be actively repaired like Metenox moon drills. Warp disruptors and interdiction bubbles will now prevent gate use, further limiting force projection and making nullsec movement more tactical.

Planetary Industry Enhancements

Capsuleers managing planetary colonies will enjoy major quality-of-life improvements. UI enhancements, multi-select for schematics, and the ability to reset extractors make operations smoother than ever. Hotspots will still shift over time, ensuring active management remains key to maximizing output. One of the reasons this is now moving out of beta is thanks to feedback and participation from capsuleers.

Pochven Filament Changes

Tactical retreats through Pochven just got harder. Filaments now feature a spool-up time, preventing instant extractions. Additionally, their activation leaves a detectable trace on D-Scan and can be probed with combat scanners, allowing pursuit and counterplay. This is the first step in a broader look at Pochven travel mechanics.

Ship & Fleet Tweaks

Following discussions at the latest CSM summit, several ship balance adjustments have been made. Heavy interdiction cruisers can now fit cynosural field generators, adding new strategic options for fleet commanders. Also, ECM burst jammer restrictions have been tightened to prevent unintended abuse.

Warp speeds across ship classes are being standardized for more consistent travel mechanics and better fleet balance. Heavy assault cruisers (HACs) will see a slight warp speed reduction to align with their Tech I counterparts, while specialized ships will retain their warp bonuses where appropriate for their roles.

Additionally, fleets will receive new quality-of-life updates, including the ability to disband and reform fleets faster and set maximum fleet sizes. Fleet commanders also gain a new repair beacon mechanic, allowing them to designate non-fleet allies for remote repairs.

Equinox Adjustments

Mercenary den infomorph output is being reduced to stabilize the market, and Metenox moon drills now require more magma reagents. This adds new considerations for nullsec industry.

This is just the beginning. Expect more refinement as New Eden continues to evolve. There are also many more things in this update than mentioned here, and you can check out the full details in the patch notes.
