EPOS Sennheiser GSX 300 External Sound Card Review

Sennheiser is a name long-known in the PC audio space for creating some amazing gaming headphones. We’ve been following their products for many years – going back to our review of their PC350 headphones in 2013! Sennheiser and EPOS (now co-brands in the gaming audio space), have now released a brand-new series audio products. The EPOS | Sennheiser GSX 300 is their external sound option – made for those gamers who don’t want to put a discrete sound card inside their often cramped PC gaming chassis. Instead, all they need to do is hook the GSX 300 up to a USB port and they can get high quality audio to the speakers of their choosing.

From a design standpoint, EPOS | Sennheiser have kept the GSX 300 simple with the choice of either  a white or black color scheme – each featuring only two physical controls on the entire unit. The first is a small “smart” button on the lower part of the GSX 300’s front facing side. This button allows you to cycle through your audio presets on the fly. The second control is the larger rotary knob on the GSX 300’s front facing side. This large knob controls volume and features nice, smooth and silent detents throughout its range. Keeping with its simplicity is that there are only three i/o ports on the entire unit: A micro-USB port for audio input and power, a 3.5mm microphone jack, and a 3.5mm speaker/headphone jack. This thing is VERY easy to setup and use. EPOS | Sennheiser should be commended for their efforts in making it user-friendly.

In terms of its physical size, the EPOS | Sennheiser GSX 300 is tiny! It fits in the palm of my hand which makes it very convenient to place on a desktop or the top side of a PC gaming chassis. It has two rubber feet on its underside to help with surface grip, although it still does move around sometimes depending on the situation. This is also due to the GSX 300’s insanely light weight construction. Unfortunately, due to its light weight and plastic body, it does have sort of a “plastic” feel.  But, I digress, its still sports a minimal and classy look.

As far as its audio capabilities go, the EPOS | Sennheiser GSX 300 is capable of pushing out 7.1 virtual (16 bit / 48 kHz) surround sound as well as high quality stereo (24 bit / 96 kHz stereo) audio. The EPOS Gaming Suite control software enables gamers to setup audio profiles and adjust the settings of the audio produced by the GSX 300. This suite is full featured and makes use of the GSX 300’s rotary knob to adjust some levels of reverb, etc inside the software. It also features a built in headphone amplifier so even your most basic headphones will sound better when plugged into the GSX 300. The one thing you can’t adjust while in-game is your mic levels, etc. That must me done inside the software itself.

Overall, EPOS | Sennheiser has created one excellent external sound card solution with the GSX 300. Sure, it only supports a stereo output, but for about $80 Dollars, you are getting some high quality virtual surround sound as well as a headphone amplifier to boot. If you wanted an external sound card with multiple channel outputs, you’re going to be paying a lot more of your hard-earned cash.

The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse Coming to Disney+

Mickey Mouse and friends are heading to Disney+ in the all new-animated shorts series, “The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse.” From the team behind Disney Channel’s Emmy Award-winning “Mickey Mouse” cartoon shorts, the new Disney+ original series will debut on Mickey’s birthday, Wednesday, November 18, with two new shorts rolling out every Friday beginning November 27. Ten shorts will premiere this year, with 10 additional shorts set for Summer 2021.

In “The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse,” it’s nothing but fun and excitement for Mickey and his best pals – Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy and Pluto – as they embark on their greatest adventures yet, navigating the curveballs of a wild and zany world where the magic of Disney makes the impossible possible. Each seven-minute short is filled with laugh-out-loud comedy, modern settings, timeless stories, new music and the unmistakable classic art style of the “Mickey Mouse” shorts. The series will include stories inspired by various lands at Disney parks and cameos by classic Disney heritage characters.

Marked by a contemporary art style that harkens back to Mickey’s 1928 beginnings, the “Mickey Mouse” cartoon shorts premiered on Disney Channel in 2013 and ran for five seasons, consisting of a total of 96 episodes, and garnered seven Primetime Emmy Awards, two Daytime Emmy Awards and 21 Annie Awards. The shorts inspired a global line of consumer products, toys and clothing as well as the new attraction, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, the first ride-through attraction in Disney history starring Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, now open at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. All five seasons of the shorts are currently available to stream on Disney+.

“The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse” is produced by Disney Television Animation with Emmy Award-winning artist and director Paul Rudish serving as executive producer and supervising director. Christopher Willis, the Emmy Award-winning composer of the “Mickey Mouse” shorts, also provides the music for this series.

Spacebase Startopia Delayed

Publisher Kalypso Media and developer Realmforge Studios have today announced that their upcoming space management sim Spacebase Startopia has been subject to a navigational glitch (that the station AI insists is down to human error), overshooting its destination by several thousand lightyears and delaying its arrival on Earth to Spring 2021.

The new release date will allow for more development time to further polish the game, ensuring that it reaches the highest quality level possible and meets the high expectations of fans and beta testers. In addition, the delay means that the game can launch in more territories and on more platforms from day one.

Spacebase Startopia is set to launch Spring 2021 on Windows PC, Mac, Linux, PlayStation®4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.

Conan Exiles: Isle of Siptah Announced

More than 10 million people now own Conan Exiles, making it the biggest success in Funcom’s 27-year long history. Next week, on September 15th, the adventure continues with the first major expansion being released into early access on PC.

Conan Exiles: Isle of Siptah offers an even playing field for new and old players alike. Everyone gets to start fresh with a new character on the fabled Isle of Siptah, an island engulfed in magical storms and eldritch creatures, but also a place of beauty and opportunity. The island features more than a dozen new dungeons, known as vaults, surges of sorcery that spawn vile creatures and NPCs, and an ominous dark tower surrounded by a magical storm. Isle of Siptah is in fact a whole new way of experiencing the online survival game, where players now will be able to summon magical portals that forcibly pull NPCs from the Exiled Lands and into this new and mysterious place. Players will have to compete for these opportunities, creating bloody conflict and an all-new gameplay loop.

Isle of Siptah comes with two new building sets, allowing you to construct pirate themed towns of flotsam and majestic castles from stormglass. You will be able to ride into battle on the back of a brand-new mount, the mighty rhinoceros. Acquiring the game in early access will even grant you a limited edition War-torn Rhino Mount Skin. The new building sets and mounts will also be accessible on the base game map, as long as you have Isle of Siptah installed.

Starting today, on September 10th at 19:00 CEST / 10 AM PDT / 1 PM EDT and lasting till Monday September 14th, new players will be able to experience Conan Exiles for free during Steam Free Weekend. Combined with a huge 65% discount on the base game and the prospect of everyone starting on a level playing field in the expansion on Tuesday, it makes this the perfect time for new players to give Conan Exiles a go.

Conan Exiles: Isle of Siptah will release in full on PC, PlayStation and Xbox in early 2021. For more information, see the official website, or download the game fact sheet from our FTP. More information will also be provided in an exclusive developer stream on the official Funcom channel on Twitch on September 11th at 17:00 CEST / 8 AM PDT / 11 AM EDT.
