MicroProse to Publish Darkenstein 3D

MicroProse is proud to announce that it will publish Darkenstein 3D, a retro-inspired first-person shooter created by a dedicated solo developer.

The game will launch as free to own on October 21st, 2025, bringing brutal, skill-based action to everyone at no cost.

Built as both a tribute and an evolution of classics like Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, and Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Darkenstein 3D blends pure old-school skill-based combat with modern twists in physics, gore, and environmental chaos. It’s fierce, funny, and ferocious — everything fans of retro shooters crave.

“I spent years immersed in games like Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Enemy Territory, making maps for the latter as well as Quake 3. Darkenstein 3D is my way of bringing that same fast, chaotic energy back. It is a raw shooter that lives between the first FPS classics like Doom and Wolfenstein 3D and the modern era. Louder, bloodier, silly, and built to be played hard.” said Rowye, creator of Darkenstein 3D.

Halloween Horror Nights 2025 Review: A Terrifying Triumph at Universal Studios Hollywood

Universal Studios Hollywood’s Halloween Horror Nights has long been the benchmark for large-scale haunt events, a sprawling celebration of fear that transforms a working movie studio into a landscape of nightmares. The 2025 season continues this legacy, unleashing a formidable lineup of eight haunted houses, a refreshed Terror Tram experience, and streets teeming with monsters. It’s an ambitious undertaking that largely succeeds, delivering a night of high-production horror that balances intense scares with moments of pure, unadulterated fun, even if a few missteps keep it from absolute perfection.

The heart of the event is, as always, the haunted houses, and this year’s collection is a masterclass in catering to a diverse horror palate. The standout experience of the entire evening was, without a doubt, Five Nights at Freddy’s. This house was an absolute joy to walk through, perfectly capturing the unsettling atmosphere of the source material. The stars of the show are the larger-than-life puppets of the pizzeria’s faux-animatronics, which move with a weight and presence that is genuinely menacing. The creators’ attention to detail was impeccable; at several points, the distinct smell of cheap pizza was pumped into the air, a brilliant multi-sensory touch that fully immersed you in the derelict, haunted restaurant. It was less about jump scares and more about a sustained, creepy ambiance that was incredibly effective.

Another massive success was Terrifier, a house that reveled in its own gleeful depravity. It was packed with charm and an abundance of gory fun, faithfully recreating the gruesome world of Art the Clown. The scare actors portraying the silent killer were a highlight, clearly having a wonderful time as they stalked and taunted guests with a theatrical flair that was both hilarious and unnerving. For all the talk of it being an extreme experience, the promised deluge of water and other fluids was less intense than anticipated, which was a welcome surprise, allowing guests to enjoy the carnage without getting completely soaked.

Perhaps the biggest surprise of the night was Fallout. As a property not traditionally associated with horror, expectations were tempered. However, the execution was deeply impressive. The house wisely focused on world-building and immersion over cheap scares, and it excelled. The dedication to recreating the sets and characters from the video games and television series was remarkable, from the claustrophobic confines of Vault 33 to the desolate, rust-colored wasteland. The experience was capped off with a fantastic teaser for the show’s second season, a clever nod that rewarded fans and left everyone buzzing.

Unfortunately, not every house hit the mark. The weakest link in the chain was Scarecrow: Music by Slash. While the legendary guitarist’s original score was outstanding and easily the best part of the maze, the experience itself felt cramped and overly aggressive. The narrow corridors created a claustrophobic feeling that wasn’t enjoyable, and the scare actors were often uncomfortably close, invading personal space in a way that felt more clumsy than frightening. In one instance, an actor unintentionally knocked a phone out of my sister’s hand, a moment that broke the immersion and highlighted the house’s design flaws.

The rest of the lineup offered a solid, if not always revolutionary, slate of scares. Jason Universe was a bloody love letter to the slasher icon, presenting a “greatest hits” of his most brutal kills that felt fresh and exciting.

Monstruos 3: The Ghosts of Latin America effectively concluded the popular trilogy with chilling folklore and surprisingly gory scenes. The returning

Poltergeist house, while featuring a stunning exterior facade, felt a bit dated compared to the newer offerings, as I think most of the maze was made up of sets and props from the Poltergeist maze they did several years ago.

Beyond the houses, the park’s atmosphere was electric. The scare zones were effective, particularly the dual clown-themed areas, Chainsaw Clownz and Carnival of Carnage, which ensured anyone with coulrophobia had no safe haven. The single best atmospheric element, however, was the decision to have Art the Clown as a free-roaming character. Spotting him silently appear in a crowd or a gift shop created a pervasive sense of dread and excitement that elevated the entire event. The Terror Tram, themed to

Enter the Blumhouse, was another strong point, offering a refreshed walk through the iconic backlot with new scenes featuring villains from the Insidious franchise.

The event’s two live shows, the explosive The Purge: Dangerous Waters and the imported anime short Chainsaw Man: The Chaos, provided excellent diversions from the queues. The themed food and beverage offerings were also extensive and creative, though operational issues were apparent, with some of the most popular items selling out frustratingly early in the night.

Overall, Halloween Horror Nights 2025 is a resounding success. With knockout headliners like Five Nights at Freddy’s and Fallout, a brilliantly executed roaming character, and a consistently high level of production value, it delivers a spectacular night of horror. While minor issues like an overly cramped maze and food supply problems slightly tarnish the experience, they are mere smudges on an otherwise bloody, brilliant canvas.

Tips for Attending Halloween Horror Nights

  • Arrive Early or Get an Early Access Ticket: The single best way to get a head start on the crowds is to be at the front gate at least an hour before opening. The Early Access Ticket, which allows entry to select houses at 5:30 p.m., is a valuable tool to knock out several popular houses before the general public arrives.
  • Prioritize the Terror Tram: The Terror Tram is a unique, signature Hollywood experience, but it closes earlier than the rest of the event, typically around 11:15 p.m. Make sure to ride it before the cutoff time.
  • Wear Comfortable Shoes: You will be doing a significant amount of walking and standing throughout the night. Comfort is key to survival.
  • Eat Early: Lines for the themed food stalls can get very long, and popular items have been known to sell out early in the evening. Plan to eat either before you arrive or during the first couple of hours of the event to avoid disappointment.
  • Don’t Touch the Talent: Scare actors are not allowed to touch you, and you are strictly forbidden from touching them. Violating this rule will result in immediate removal from the park.

For Honor’s latest season, Downfall, is out now bringing a new limited-time game mode, Hero skin for the Nobushi, Cross-Progression, and more. The new Hero skin is Lady Saori, a fierce warrior who once defended her castle from a treacherous attack by any means necessary.

This Headset Punches Way Above Its Weight: Turtle Beach Atlas 200 PC Edition Reviewed

As a gamer who remembers blowing dust out of cartridges and waiting for dial-up connections, my relationship with gaming has changed. The all-night sessions have been replaced by carefully negotiated windows of time carved out between work deadlines, school runs, and the quiet hours after the family has gone to bed. In this new reality, my gear needs to meet a different set of criteria. It has to be practical, comfortable for the long haul when I do get a rare chance to binge, and it can’t break the bank. It’s a crowded market, but the Turtle Beach Atlas 200 PC Edition has made a compelling case for itself, proving to be a workhorse that understands the needs of a modern, time-crunched gamer.

The first thing you notice about the Atlas 200 is what you don’t notice: the weight. At a mere 280 grams, it’s remarkably light. This isn’t a trivial detail. After a long day, the last thing I want is a heavy, vice-like headset squeezing my head. Turtle Beach has borrowed the “floating fit” design from its more expensive models, and it’s a game-changer. A breathable mesh strap, not the hard plastic frame, rests on your head, distributing the weight so evenly that you genuinely forget you’re wearing it. The earcups, wrapped in a soft athletic fabric, are equally comfortable. As a glasses-wearer, I was particularly impressed by the ProSpecs system, which uses a softer section of foam to create a channel for my frames. It completely eliminates the painful pressure points I’ve endured with other headsets, making a three-hour session feel effortless. It’s a thoughtful, user-focused design that prioritizes sustained comfort over flashy aesthetics.

Of course, comfort means nothing if the sound isn’t up to par. The Atlas 200 is equipped with 50mm Nanoclear drivers, another feature inherited from Turtle Beach’s higher-end lineup. Out of the box, the audio is tuned for tactical precision. Playing competitive shooters, the soundscape is crisp and clear. The mid and high frequencies are emphasized, allowing you to pinpoint the subtle but critical cues—the scuff of an enemy’s boot, the distant clink of a grenade pin, or the specific sound of a weapon being reloaded around a corner. This focus on clarity provides a real competitive advantage. However, this tuning comes at the expense of deep, rumbling bass. Cinematic, explosion-heavy games and bass-driven music can feel a bit thin on the low end. It’s a sound profile that favors tactical awareness over pure, thundering immersion.

This is where the PC Edition truly distinguishes itself and justifies its slight price premium. The included USB audio adapter is more than just a connector; it’s the key to unlocking the Swarm II software suite. This desktop application is the headset’s secret weapon. Within the software, a 10-band equalizer allows you to completely reshape the sound profile. That underwhelming bass? A few quick adjustments and the low-end comes alive, adding the punch and warmth that was missing. The software also includes Turtle Beach’s Superhuman Hearing mode, which further amplifies those critical in-game sounds, and Waves 3D Audio for a surprisingly effective virtual surround sound experience. The generous two-meter cable is another practical touch for PC users, providing ample length to reach a desktop tower without feeling tethered.

The communications suite is competent, though it’s where the headset’s budget-conscious design is most apparent. The microphone provides clear voice transmission for in-game chat and Discord calls, and the flip-to-mute function is a wonderfully simple and effective feature—perfect for when a family member walks in mid-match. However, the microphone itself is permanently attached and has a rather basic plastic look that clashes with the headset’s otherwise sleek design. More critically, its unidirectional pickup pattern isn’t aggressive enough to block out ambient sounds, meaning keyboard clicks and other background noises can bleed through. Once again, the Swarm II software comes to the rescue. Its configurable noise gate allows you to set a threshold that filters out these unwanted sounds, dramatically improving the microphone’s performance and solving one of its biggest hardware weaknesses.

The New PlayStation Edition Box

The New PlayStation Edition Box

The Turtle Beach Atlas 200 PC Edition is a masterclass in smart compromises. It invests in the areas that matter most for a dedicated gamer: exceptional, long-session comfort and clear, precise audio drivers. It then uses a robust software suite to elevate the experience, allowing users to correct its few sonic deficiencies and enhance its microphone capabilities. While the microphone’s physical design is uninspired and the default sound lacks bass, these are minor issues when weighed against its strengths. For the mature gamer who values comfort, tactical performance, and practical features over all else, this headset delivers a premium experience at a budget-friendly price. It’s a fantastic piece of equipment that respects both your time and your wallet.

**NOTE: Turtle Beach has also launched the first licensed PlayStation version of the Atlas 200 – you can find that product here.

Overall Score 4 out of 5
