For over half a century, Sesame Street has stood as a cherished pillar of children’s media, captivating young audiences and fostering a lifelong passion for learning. Later this year, the iconic series will embark on a new chapter, as Elmo, Cookie Monster, Abby Cadabby, and all their beloved friends arrive on Netflix. This exciting development will bring Sesame Street’s entirely reimagined 56th season, alongside an extensive library of 90 hours of previous episodes, to viewers around the world.

The upcoming season promises fresh and engaging format changes, including the return of highly anticipated fan-favorite segments such as “Elmo’s World” and “Cookie Monster’s Foodie Truck.” Audiences can also look forward to innovative ways to interact with the characters. Cookie Monster will debut his very own Cookie Cart on Sesame Street, offering new opportunities for playful engagement, while viewers will be invited to explore Abby’s Fairy Garden, a magical haven filled with surprising and delightful creatures. Furthermore, episodes will now adopt a new structure, centering on a single 11-minute story. This change is designed to enhance character-driven humor and deliver even more heartwarming moments.

These new episodes of the iconic series will continue to be accessible day-and-date in the United States on PBS stations and PBS KIDS digital platforms, ensuring that critical early learning remains freely available to children nationwide. Sesame Workshop, the global nonprofit organization behind Sesame Street, will see Sal Perez and Kay Wilson Stallings serve as executive producers. Joining the team as head writer is Halcyon Person, an Emmy, Humanitas, and NAACP Award nominee known for her work on Karma’s World and Dee & Friends in Oz.

Sesame Street will maintain its strong presence on PBS KIDS and its digital video and games platforms, upholding its more than 50-year legacy of utilizing the power of public television to provide essential early learning experiences to children across the country at no cost. Netflix has secured exclusive worldwide premiere rights for the new season, with episodes becoming available concurrently on PBS stations in the U.S. and across PBS KIDS digital platforms. Additionally, Netflix will have the opportunity to develop video games for both Sesame Street and Sesame Street Mecha Builders.

Kids and Family viewing constitutes a significant 15% of Netflix’s total viewing. The platform has cultivated a dedicated space where children can watch, play, and learn, featuring popular shows like Ms. Rachel, Gabby’s Dollhouse, CoComelon Lane, Blippi, and Hot Wheels Let’s Race, as well as engaging adventures such as The Sea Beast and Leo. Netflix aims to make family time both easy and enjoyable through dedicated kids’ profiles. These profiles offer parental controls, viewing history, PIN-protected profiles, and helpful recaps, all contributing to a safe and personalized experience for young viewers. More games for kids, included with all subscriptions, are also slated to be added to the platform soon.

Stay tuned for the launch of new episodes of Sesame Street Season 56 later this year on Netflix.
