Travis Haley, a name long-known in the world of firearms and tactical training. Haley is a veteran Force Reconnaissance Marine with 15 years of dedicated real world experience. His company, Haley Strategic Partners, focuses on hosting tactical training sessions around the country as well as crafting innovative products for operators everywhere. Their Disruptive Environment Chest Rig, also known as the D3CR, is the company’s premier chest rig system. From Haley Strategic Partners’ official website:

“Designed and optimized for work in urban, vehicle, rural and other confined settings, the Disruptive Environment Chest Rig was built to be worn as a stand alone system with a detachable H-harness or clipped into a armor platform equipped with a quick release system.”

From the perspective of the airsoft player, these are excellent qualities to have in a chest rig system. The D3CR features four M4 style magazine pouches, two small pouches for pistol magazines or multi-tools, two utility pouches with velcro flaps, and one STUFFIT pouch which can be used for objects like a water bottle or smoke grenade. The H-harness strap system is comfortable and, once adjusted, the whole rig fits snugly while still allowing for a lot of mobility.

Making this chest rig even more flexible is the fact that the straps can be removed and the main panel is able to attach to full plate carriers with velcro fronts and buckles like those found on the Mayflower APC. One thing that you can’t do directly with a chest rig is run an armored plate or even, for airsoft usage, a training plate. Being able to attach the D3CR to a plate carrier is a huge boon for your safety if you are using the chest rig in real world usage.

I, like many other airsoft players, take more than four magazines into a game with me – especially if I am running mid-capacity magazines, which ten to limit you to about 140 BBs each. So, I looked deeper into HSP’s official website and found what they call the “D3CR Expansion System”. This system allows for additional pouches to be added to the D3CR while not sacrificing the mobility inherent to the system. The first of HSP’s D3CR Expansion System add-ons is the Double Magazine Wedge. This allows two additional M4 style magazines to be attached to the rear side of the D3CR panel, bringing the total number of M4 magazines able to be carried by the system to six. The next D3CR Expansion System item is their Holster Wedge. This is basically a pouch that attaches to the rear of the D3CR panel allowing for a pistol to be placed centerline between the rig and the body. Finally, the D3CR Expansion System finished strong with the very handy Multi-Mission Hangar. This is a fanny pack style pouch that hangs from the bottom of the D3CR. The beauty of this system is that they can, in most cases, work together to expand the D3CR as needed. For example, the Holster Wedge or Double Magazine Wedge will work with the Multi-Mission Hangar but not with each other, due to the amount of Velcro real estate located on the back of the chest rig panel.

Something to note is that the Disruptive Environment Chest Rig does not come with an attached, dedicated radio pouch or medical pouch. This is by design as the overall system is modular, and Haley Strategic Partners wants users to have their radios and Individual First Aid Kits (IFAKs) permanently attached to their loadouts.

For instance, in the above picture, which was taken at the Operation Lion Claws Military Simulation Series event, Operation New Horizon, I was running the D3CR and a hydration backpack. I attached my IFAK and radio pouches to the backpack itself. This setup worked very well for me at the event, and I would prefer the D3CR to a normal plate carrier at any airsoft game, anywhere. As a player in Southern California, I especially enjoyed the fact that it helped me keep cool during play in the warmer climate.

Haley Strategic Partners has recently released a new chest rig system, called the D3CR-H which is fitted with pouches for 7.62 or .308 magazines. We haven’t had the chance to check that model out yet but, when we do, we will write up the review in our airsoft column.

Overall, the Haley Strategic Partners Disruptive Environment Chest Rig D3CR will enable you to play a more efficient game of airsoft by placing exactly what you need within reach while allowing you to maximize your on-the-field mobility. While the rest of your squad is lugging around a cumbersome plate carrier, you can play in style. The basic HSP D3CR retails for $179.00 dollars on their official website. It is available in Coyote, Black, Ranger Green, MultiCam, Kryptek Mandrake, Kryptek Highlander, and Kryptek Typhon camouflage schemes.
