The Hobbit Films Get Release Dates and Titles

The Hobbit Team has announced the official release dates and titles of the upcoming films based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s book, The Hobbit.

The first film, titled “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” will be released on December 14, 2012.  The second film, titled “The Hobbit: There and Back Again,” is slated for release the following year, on December 13, 2013.

Ian McKellan makes his return as the wizard Gandalf while also reprising their roles from The Lord of the Rings films are: Cate Blanchett as Galadriel; Orlando Bloom as Legolas; Ian Holm as the elder Bilbo; Christopher Lee as Saruman; Hugo Weaving as Elrond; Elijah Wood as Frodo; and Andy Serkis as Gollum.

Paradox Interactive has released a second developer diary for their upcoming wargame, Sengoku. This time, the dev team goes into the game’s various factions and how they inter-relate with one another. Sengoku is due out on Windows PCs come September 12th, 2011.

EA Pwned Goes Behind Battlefield 3

In the latest edition of EA Pwned, the Pwned team goes to Stockholm to see under the hood of Battlefield 3, which is due out this Fall on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Windows PC platforms. In addition to the Player Impact Engine trailer for FIFA 12, EA Sports has also released a large batch of screenshots for the title. The game currently has no announced release date but we will be previewing it at this year’s E3 expo in just a week’s time!

GRIN Founders Says Square Enix to Blame for Closure

In an interview with Swedish tabloid website, Aftonblade, GRIN founders Ulf and Bo Andersson have spilled the beans on exactly how the studio’s downfall came about – blaming a majority of what transpired on bumbling, idiotic moves by publisher Square Enix during the development of Final Fantasy XII, also accusing them of not paying them what they were promised as development continued. Additionally, the Brothers Andersson claim that Square requested that the developer FAX the game’s code and music files to them… Unless Square has some sort of new FAX technology, last time we checked that is just not possible!

“It is as silly as it sounds,” said Bo Andersson. “It is an impossible requirement, you can not send ASCII or binary codes on the fax. It is backward. Really retarded. It was almost a criminal activity.”

GRIN was founded in 1997 and had worked on a multitude of titles, including the PC version of Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2, Bionic Commando, and Wanted: Weapons of Fate.
