Netflix is officially bringing William Golding’s descent into darkness to the small screen, today unveiling the first trailer for its highly anticipated limited series, Lord of the Flies. Set to premiere in the United States on May 4, the four-part event marks the first-ever television adaptation of the landmark dystopian novel. The project boasts a powerhouse creative team, with the script penned by Emmy-winner Jack Thorne (*Adolescence*) and direction from Marc Munden. To heighten the tension of the boys’ transition from innocence to savagery, the series features a cinematic score composed by industry titan Hans Zimmer alongside Kara Talve and Cristobal Tapia de Veer.
The adaptation stars a fresh ensemble cast led by Winston Sawyers as the pragmatic Ralph, Lox Pratt as his rival Jack, and David McKenna as the intellectual Piggy. Produced by Eleven and One Shoe Films with backing from Sony Pictures Television, the series aims to capture the visceral horror of the original text across four one-hour episodes. As the trailer showcases a group of English schoolboys stranded on a desert island, the production promises a lush yet haunting visual experience, executive produced by Thorne, Munden, Joel Wilson, and Jamie Campbell.
