On September 8th, 1966, the starship Enterprise began her five year mission to explore new worlds and all the rest of it. Technically, the pilot episodes of the show, titled “The Cage” were created in 1965. However, the studio didn’t like a lot of its elements and the show was re-tooled into what we now know as Star Trek’s original series. The Cage would eventually aire in its entirety, but not until 1988! In any event, the show featuring William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelly, and the rest of the crew is still my personal favorite of the venerable sci-fi franchise.
