FREMONT, Calif. – March 12, 2014 – Digital Storm is excited to unveil the new VANQUISH II, a gaming PC  built to play the most demanding games with maximum detail, speed, and power without breaking the bank.

“Starting at just $699, VANQUISH II delivers an incredible value with the ability to play the most graphic intensive games at max settings,” said Rajeev Kuruppu, Digital Storm’s Director of Product Development.  “That is still obviously more expensive than purchasing a console, but we believe delivering graphics up to three times the resolution is well worth the extra $100-200 investment.”

From a “Good” configuration with an     NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 1GB graphics card and Intel Core i3 4330 processor to an “Ultimate” build with a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770 2GB graphics card and Intel Core i5 4570 processor, VANQUISH II is armed to deliver a truly immersive gaming experience.

VANQUISH II’s fully upgradeable, open architecture helps gamers stay ahead of the competition with easy upgrades that keep the system on the cutting edge for years to come.

“PC gamers demand the best and that means utilizing the latest components and technologies to deliver the most immersive gaming experience possible. Conversely, consoles quickly become outdated due to a limited architecture and the inability to upgrade performance,” said Kuruppu.

There’s no waiting or delays like a traditional build-to-order system, all VANQUISH II units ship within 72 hours from the moment an order is placed.  During those 72 hours each VANQUISH II system undergoes rigorous stress testing and benchmarking. Afterwards, each desktop goes a multi-point QA inspection where every aspect of the system is scrutinized, from part fitment to software setup, to make sure each unit is perfect.

VANQUISH II is available exclusively at http://www.digitalstormonline.com/vanquish-ii.asp.

SanDisk Ultra Plus 256G SSD Review

394074_BB_00_FB.EPS_1000

394074_BB_00_FB.EPS_1000

When trying to integrate a SSD card into your system, you can easily get swallowed up in techno-babble.  If you like techno-babble, that’s great – dive on in, the water is plenty deep.  When I got my SanDisk Ultra Plus 256G SSD, all I wanted to know is how will this effect me as a gamer and how can I really utilize this sweet piece of tech. So, I began writing this review for the laypeople out there!

Features:

  •  Increased performance for faster boot and application load times
  •  Increased reliability and durability over traditional hard drives
  •  Consistently high data transfer speeds
  •  Backed by a 3 year limited warranty
  •  Operating temperature: -32ºF to 158ºF (0ºC to 70 ºC)
  •  Power Consumption (active): 0.12w
  •  Shock Resistant: up to 1500 G @ 0.5 m/sec

SSD For Gamers:
I promise to keep this simple for the non-tech heads. First things first – incorporating a SanDisk Ultra Plus SSD into your computer will make your boot-up time insanely fast. Windows just flies open so fast that at first you wonder if something went wrong. Nope, things just went extremely right. In the olden days of SSDs, when they were about the same size as the cards you put in your digital camera now, space allotment on the drives used to be very pick and choose. The overall consensus was that you should definitely install Windows on it and be happy with your “super boots”. Now that they are 256G with 6G/s transfer rates, game management definitely comes into play.

First instincts is to put Steam on the drive – I love Steam and have about 100 games on it, but it turns out that low load speed with Steam is more of an internet relay issue than a hard drive one. A better use for the SSD is to install those monster games that have all the beautiful graphics, huge save files and take up a load of hard drive real estate. Those games that have load times when you go through doorways into new areas or after cut-scenes. They becomes smooth experiences hopping from level to level or area to area because it is all just instant access at insane speeds. If you are like me and have been gaming for decades you will really understand how amazingly far we have come.

Another benefit of having a SanDisk Ultra Plus SSD that most gamers don’t think about is temperature and noise. Thanks to the SSD being a solid state device (hence the “SS” in “SSD”), there are no whirling platters with lots of  or mechanized arms to heat things up. Loading the games and system programs you use most on one of these disks actually will reduce your heat and noise levels as well as make your games play more seamlessly. It is also good to note that because there are no whirling platters, these drives are shock absorbent! If you take your rig places, bump it regularly or have a laptop gaming rig, SSDs will be less likely to error or suffer damage.  Because there are no moving parts there is also no problem with moving parts breaking down, meaning the longevity of the drive is way better than a standard hard drive.

Why to Use SanDisk:
A lot of what was pointed out in this article discusses the gaming benefits of SSDs in general. Any die-hard gamer can tell you though that when it comes to gaming parts brand names do make a difference. You don’t want to trust the heart of your rig to a generic name that you don’t know if you can trust. When it comes to SanDisk, they back their products with not just years of reliable brand recognition but enough research and performance testing of their products to feed even the most hungry tech head’s tastes. The SanDisk Ultra Plus 256G SSD is a new standard for the industry and one you can trust your gaming life to, I certainly am.

Xi3 Shows off Tech at Sundance Film Festival

PISTONG1

PISTONG1

SALT LAKE CITY — Jan. 17, 2014 — Following its “best CES ever” at last week’s 2014 International CES trade show, Xi3 Corporation has now set its sights on Utah’s famous film festival where Xi3 is debuting its vertical focus on the Entertainment Industry.

Specifically, Xi3® is showcasing the “10X capabilities” of its tiny, powerful yet ecofriendly Modular™ Computers, microSERV3Rs™ and dataCENT3Rs™ at different events and venues during the 11-day film festival. According to Xi3 Founder, President and CEO, Jason A. Sullivan, Xi3’s products are perfect for rendering, compositing, production and live performances because Xi3 systems are much smaller and use significantly less electricity than the machines typically used by creative professionals.

“After the whirlwind week we just completed at the CES trade show, it’s clear to me that 2014 was our best CES ever as we met with more executives, more partners and more buying professionals than ever before,” Sullivan said. “Clearly, our decision to focus on several vertical markets is proving successful for us, including our solutions for the health care, digital signage, and entertainment industries. It’s our unique capabilities for creative professionals that compelled us to become part of the entertainment community.

“As it turns out, our Modular Computers are the perfect engine for real-time and offline creation and production of film, video, professional audio and still imagery. In fact, the X7A Modular Computer can handle all of the rendering, compositing, and simulations of Macs and PCs that are as much as 10-times larger and use up to 10-times the amount of electricity—but it costs less than those bigger machines. Xi3 solutions are perfect for the creative mind, whether they’re used in standalone mode or with hundreds linked together in rendering clusters. And it doesn’t matter if they’re in a studio in Burbank or on location in Brazil. The bottom line is that Xi3 allows filmmakers, producers, audio professionals and visual artists to do more in less time at lower costs.”

Outlined below is a summary of some of Xi3’s initial events and activities for the business side of the Entertainment Industry.

Independent Film Makers Lounge Presented by Xi3 Corporation

Xi3 Corporation is the Presenting Sponsor of the Independent Film Makers Lounge being held during Utah’s most successful film festival. The “Indie Lounge” is being held from 10 a.m. — 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 16 to Sunday, Jan. 19 at 710 N. Main Street in Park City. Xi3 is featuring its X7A Modular Computers and Xi3 microSERV3Rs at the “Indie Lounge.” These softball-sized machines from Xi3 are packed with 2 billion transistors yet are 10-times smaller and use one-tenth the electricity of comparably equipped systems.

Xi3 to Hold Panel Discussion at the “Indie Lounge”

During the 11-day film festival (January 16—26, 2014), Xi3 will conduct a Panel Discussion titled, “Making Michael Bay-like Films on an Indie Budget: How to do more in less time at lower costs with next generation technologies.” This 60-minute Panel Discussion will be held onMonday, January 20 from 1—2 p.m. at 710 N. Main Street in Park City, Utah. Seating for the Panel Discussion is limited, so interested individuals are asked to RSVP to PanelDiscussion@Xi3.com.

Xi3 Enters Ongoing Technology Partnership with Park City Live

Xi3 and Park City Live have entered into an ongoing Technology Partnership that features Xi3’s Modular Computers and other technologies throughout the venue on a year-round basis. Located in the heart of Park City near the midpoint of Main Street in the historic Memorial Building, Park City Live is Park City’s premier concert venue for live concerts, DJs and special events—especially during the city’s annual film festival.

Xi3 Installs ODIN at Park City Live—Xi3’s First “Live” Performance Studio for DJs

Xi3 has entered the pro audio market with a new development stage project code-named ODIN aimed at professional DJs. ODIN is a new concept in “Live Studio” performance systems where DJs combine digital audio and video to create unique state-of-the-art performances each night. The ODIN “Live Studio” performance booth utilizes Xi3’s powerful yet tiny X7A Modular Computers to drive the most popular studio and DJ/VJ software applications for live concerts and performances. Additionally, the Xi3-powered ODIN “Live Studio” DJ/VJ booth at Park City Live controls and takes full advantage of the BOSE Pro Audio speaker system installed earlier this week at the Park City Live venue alongside ODIN.

“Xi3 is helping create truly remarkable entertainment experiences for festival- and concert-goers during this 11-day event,” Sullivan said. “That’s because Xi3 Modular Computers are perfect for pro DJs and filmmakers alike. Our 10X technologies carry a huge advantage over comparably equipped machines, and I’m confident such advantages will provide a huge uplift for our colleagues in the Entertainment Industry. Furthermore, I personally invite all industry professionals at this year’s festival to come see, hear and experience the Xi3 creative difference for themselves.”

VisionTek Unveils Liquid Cooled R9 290 GPU at CES

CryoVenom PR image

CryoVenom PR image

January 8, 2014, Las Vegas, NV – VisionTek Products LLC, (VisionTek®) http://www.visiontekproducts.com<http://www.visiontekproducts.com/>, a leading manufacturer of award-winning, high-performance upgrades and accessories for PC and Apple Macintosh® computers, announced today its CryoVenom R9 290 as the industry’s first and fastest custom-built liquid cooled AMD Radeon(tm) R9 290 graphics card on the market and available for immediate shipping. The hand-built card delivers lower temperature, near silent operation, and higher performance compared to VisionTek’s stock R9 290 card; as well as better benchmark performance and a $150 lower price than the NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX(tm) 780 Ti.

Because VisionTek feels the “coolest” computer hardware product introduction at the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show deserves the “coolest” launch event, the $550 MSRP card will be demonstrated during a media invite only event January 8 at the Minus5 Ice Bar<http://www.minus5experience.com/>.

How The Best Gets Better
The Radeon R9 290 series of graphics cards are rated by many sources as the best graphics cards available today. However, VisionTek engineers discovered that when its R9 290 graphics card was 100% utilized in the testing lab under conditions such as extended game play – the card’s temperature could climb to 201°F. Even with very efficient fan cooling and the latest AMD Catalyst driver that provides a 100% fan speed operation, the card’s built-in thermal safety feature would downclock the GPU from the factory 947MHz speed to as low as 662MHz. Combined with this performance reduction of 30%, the increase in fan noise was measured at 71dB, a sound level considered louder than a normal conversation.

38% Cooler Operation That’s As Quiet As A Pin Drop
To make sure multimedia professionals and gaming enthusiasts would experience maximum performance potential, VisionTek created the CryoVenom R9 290 graphics card. By utilizing a custom designed water block and backplate solution, the CryoVenom R9 290 can run up to 38% cooler (125°F) while being overclocked up to 24% (1.1GHz) all while registering under 10dB1 of noise, which is the sound level of a pin drop.

Overclock Certified and “Custom Shop” Built
To assure stable overclocked performance, the FurMark GPU stress utility is employed to put a 100% load on each CryoVenom R9 290’s GPU for an extended time period to determine the optimum overclock setting with a 5% safe “headroom”. Those unique, certified overclock specifications are entered onto a build sheet that is personally signed by the VisionTek’s “Custom Shop” team member that built and tested the CryoVenom card. Each card is then extensively pressure tested to ensure leak-free cooling reliability.

Up to 24% Faster Performance Without Voiding Warranty
Obtaining maximum performance from the CryoVenom R9 290 couldn’t be easier. Just enter the specifications from the included build sheet in the Catalyst(tm) Control Center and in less than a minute, the CryoVenom R9 290 can safely deliver up to 1175MHz GPU speed…a 24% increase from the stock setting of 947MHz. The memory clock speed is also increased up to 1450MHz… 16% faster than the 1250MHz stock setting. And unlike standard cards in which overclocking voids the warranty, the CryoVenom R9 290 comes backed by a one year warranty.

Faster Than EVGA NVIDIA GTX 780 Ti, Yet Costs $150 Less
Not content to just increase its stock R9 290 card performance, VisionTek’s goal was to create the industry’s fastest single GPU graphics card at a lower price than the competition’s fastest comparable card2. In the 3DMark Fire Strike Extreme setting testing, the $550 MSRP CryoVenom R9 290 scored 9330 while the $700 street price NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 Ti recorded an 8816 score.

Highest Quality Components Offer Highest Reliability
The CryoVenom R9 290’s water block provides maximum cooling performance for the GPU, RAM, and Voltage Regulation Module (VRM) even when low power water pumps are utilized. The block’s electrolytic copper base is clad with a chrome appearance-like nickel plating to prevent corrosion while the precision cut acrylic top provides effective and quiet fluid flow. The CNC machined black anodized aluminum backplate protects the card’s sensitive circuit board components during installation handling while also providing additional passive cooling for the VRM.

Better Value Than DIY
Even seasoned, hands-on system builders will find the certified ready-to-run3 and fully warrantied CryoVenom R9 290 can save over $100, time, and stress compared to creating a comparable liquid cooled non-warrantied solution for a R9 290 graphics card:

Certified Ready-to-Run CryoVenom R9 290

·         Assembly and Overclocking Verification: none required

·         Total Cost: $550

·         Warranty: One year

·         Hassle Factor: Low

Do-It-Yourself Liquid Cooled R9 290

·         R9 290 card $400.00, Waterblock $140.00, Backplate $36.00

·         Assembly, Pressure Testing, and Overclocking Verification: estimated three hours at a value of $75.00

·         Total cost: $651.00

·         Warranty: None

·         Hassle Factor: High

“The CryoVenom R9 290 is truly a remarkable feat of creative product development that draws upon our two decades of graphics card development experience,” said Mark Bilson, Executive Vice President of VisionTek. “It solves any speed and noise concerns, eliminates overclocking guesswork, sets a new standard in performance, and costs less than the previous fastest Radeon graphics card available. Then, add in that we back its reliability with a one year warranty and we hope our fans will recognize our commitment to their ultimate performance and user experience satisfaction.”
