DCS: SA342 Gazelle Available Now

May 13, 2016 – The SA342 Gazelle is a light scout/attack and transport helicopter. It was introduced in 1968 as a result of cooperation between Aérospatiale and Westland Aircraft. dcs-world-2

Eagle Dynamics has released a new gameplay trailer showing off some of what is capable in their upcoming combat flight simulation framework, DCS World 2. Checkout some details about the game as well as the trailer, below!

DCS World 2

DCS World 2 is the next iteration of the Digital Combat Simulator (DCS) series that will include a new graphics engine (developed in our Eagle Dynamics Graphics Engine development environment). It will be a FREE update and all of your DCS World module keys will work with it. In addition to the new graphics engine, DCS World 2 will also usher in the ability to have multiple maps integrated into DCS (both developed by Eagle Dynamics and our 3rd party partners). Maps currently in developed include the Nevada Test and Training Range (NTTR), Strait of Hormuz, and Europe 1944. The Map SDK is available to qualified 3rd party development teams. Interested parties can PM me with detailed proposals.

Some features we plan to include in DCS World 2 include:

  • Direct X 11 support
  • Improved performance
  • Dynamic shadowing of the terrain and mountains
  • Improved weather
  • Improved lighting
  • Clipmap support for new maps
  • Higher object counts
  • Higher resolution ground terrain mesh and textures for new maps (between 1 and 64 meters per pixel depending on area of map and clipmap level)
  • More detailed tree models with collision for new maps
  • Better graphical effects
  • High resolution road textures for new maps
  • Ability for road signs and light signals for new maps
  • Additional ground clutter (rocks, cactuses, etc.) for new maps
  • Skeleton animation for infantry
  • Better use of multiple GPUs (CPU multi-threading is not being pursued as it will provide little if any gain)
  • Ability to create dedicated servers in the future
  • Unified front end and simulation .exe
  • Improved API sound support
  • Improved Oculus Rift support

The Black Sea map will see several benefits of this including better lighting, improved grass, effects and weather.

New Videos Show Off Flight Sim EDGE Technology

edge-technology

edge-technology

*UPDATE: So, I might have been a bit overzealous in my posting of this. To clarify, it looks as though this tech might not actually come to DCS: World in the future. This terrain tech was actually created specifically for a client and it is up to this client if they want to have it added into the game engine. Just FYI, all, we can still dream for now! 🙂

Original Post:

I am a huge flightsim aficionado and we just saw these new videos over at SimHQ today. Basically, they show off what DCS, the folks behind DCS: A-10C Warthog and DCS: World, are doing to their environmental graphics capabilities. I am a bit unsure of the specifics, but this new “EDGE” technology looks to be a huge improvement in the simulation world. It appears as though these videos are showing off the technology in their military and commercial simulator environments – however, it would not be surprising in any way that these improvements don’t get added into their consumer simulations as well.

Checkout the videos below and prepare to be blown away!

With the release of the HOTAS Warthog™ Flight Stick, owners of the HOTAS Cougar™ stick and flight sim fans in general will be able to get a taste of the incredible precision provided by the stick of the A-10C, the U.S. Air Force’s famous attack aircraft. It is a replica of the plane’s control stick designed by Thrustmaster – creator of the original “Hands On Throttle And Stick” concept – and officially licensed by the U.S. government’s Department of the Air Force, the HOTAS Warthog™ Flight Stick is composed of a detachable metal handle which is also compatible with the base of the HOTAS Cougar™ stick (and vice versa), plus a base and a support plate.

Thanks to a metal plate which can be detached from its base, the HOTAS Warthog™ Flight Stick can be used either on a desk or mounted in a cockpit. The activation pressure on the stick’s buttons and trigger is completely realistic. It features 19 action buttons in total, plus one 8-way “point of view” hat: 1 x 8-way “point of view” hat, 2 x 8-way hats, 1 x 4-way hat with push button, 1 x metal dual trigger, 2 x push buttons, 2 x pinkie push buttons. The stick includes a USB connector and also features upgradable firmware; what’s more, it’s extremely stable (weighing in at more than 6.6 lbs/3 kg).

Featuring H.E.A.R.T. HallEffect AccuRate Technology™*, the stick provides absolute precision that will not decrease over time! The 3D (Hall effect) magnetic sensors provide 16-bit resolution (65,536 x 65,536 values). A unique resistance system incorporating 5 springs ensures firm tension, perfectly fluid movements with no sticking points and no dead zone around the neutral position.

The HOTAS Warthog™ Flight Stick is also compatible with the T.A.R.G.E.T Thrustmaster Advanced Programming Graphical Editor™ software suite, available free for download. This innovative application lets you test, configure and program Thrustmaster® controllers including the HOTAS Warthog™, MFD Cougar, HOTAS Cougar™, T.16000M and HOTAS Warthog™ Flight Stick. The software is based on the drag-and-drop principle for total ease of use, and features different programming levels (Basic, Advanced and Script) – making it perfect for all users from newbies to the most diehard flight sim fans.
