Queen Mary Announces Sinister Circus

March 20, 2017 – The same creative team behind Southern California’s scariest Halloween haunt, Dark Harbor, brings their demented and twisted creativity to life through this first-ever haunted summer costume ball aboard The Queen Mary on Saturday, July 29th from 8:00pm to 1:00am.  Dark Harbor’s Sinister Circus is brought to you by The Queen Mary in conjunction with LA’s biggest haunt, Halloween and horror festival, Midsummer Scream.

Following a day of macabre fun at the Midsummer Scream event taking place at the Long Beach Convention Center, dress up to become one of the Ringmaster’s minions for Dark Harbor’s Sinister Circus.  The top three best costumes will be awarded with cash prizes with the 1st place winner receiving $250.   Dance under the evening stars while many of your favorite Dark Harbor characters make their appearance during the party.  While at the party you just might get a sneak-peak of some of the terrifying new tricks that are being “cooked” up for the 2017 season of Dark Harbor.

2016 Scare LA Wrap-Up and Photo Gallery

As we move closer to the Halloween season, one of the great Southern California joys is going to Scare LA, a Halloween / horror convention. Now in its fourth year, Scare LA has grown quite a bit from its meager beginnings. Scare LA creator Lora Ivanova has crafted this show into a huge event and it brings in some top talent for its panels and classes.

There were a number of panels to take in – with all the names in the haunted attractions industry showing up. Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights and Knott’s Scary Farm gave a few more interesting tidbits about their upcoming events and we even had panels featuring Elvira herself! Elvira was the big name and host of Scare LA 2016 and she took a lot of time signing autographs on the exhibit floor.

Speaking of the exhibit floor, the Pasadena Convention Center is a very large space and they did a great job of filling it with vendors and even mini-escape rooms! We are big escape room fans and it is great to see them get floorspace in these events. Last year, there didn’t seem to be as many vendors as I had hoped – this year was a huge improvement. The Decayed Brigade (a group of “sliders” originally from Knott’s Scary Farm) were back again this year and put on some great displays of athleticism in their shows.

As usual, there were several mini-haunted houses at the event – with amazing showings from the folks at Creep LA as well as an all-new, in-house haunted house directly from the creators of Scare LA! Blood Offering featured some great set pieces, very good runtime – especially for a mini-haunt, as well as some nice acting components. Scare LA teamed up with former Knott’s Scary Farm maze designer Brooke Walters and Hollywood prop maker Donald Julson for the walk-through (and crawl-through at times).

You could even purchase a “Scare Student” pass to the event and take in a variety of classes pertaining to haunted attractions. Haunt music creator Jon Autopsy taught a course in crafting music for your haunted house while makeup artist Ken Frankling taught a course in airbrush makeup. There were, of course, a lot more to attend, but these were just a couple examples.

Overall, the 2016 Scare LA was a great time for horror and Halloween fans alike and I can’t wait to check out the 2017 event.

Activision Announces Call of Duty Championship for March

Santa Monica, CA – January 9, 2014 – Gamers prepare for the ultimate Call of Duty® competition where victory is determined in the blink of an eye. From Activision Publishing, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Activision Blizzard (Nasdaq:ATVI), Infinity Ward and Xbox, in partnership with Major League Gaming (MLG) and other international eSports partners, the second annual Call of Duty® Championship, presented by Xbox tournament will play host to 32 of the best Call of Duty teams from around the world as they compete for rights to the Call of Duty“World Champions” title and lion’s share of the tournament’s $1 million prize purse this March 28 – 30, in Los Angeles.

“Last year’s championship came down to the final minute of the final match with everyone holding their breath to see who would win. The skill, passion and energy brought by these teams and the crowd looking-on showed just what makes our community the best in the world,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing. “Call of Duty is more than a video game. This year’s tournament will also serve as the first official competitive Call of Dutyevent played on Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft, where prize money will be awarded. Programming covering the weekend’s non-stop excitement and hard fought matches will be live streamed on the Xbox Live online entertainment network and MLG.tv for the world to experience.

Call of Duty teams from six continents covering North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia will contend for their place at the Call of Duty Championship, presented by Xbox tournament in a range of qualifying events hosted by eSports organizations. Qualifying for the Call of Duty Championship, presented by Xbox will be handled through online tournaments played on the Xbox 360 games and entertainment system from Microsoft, and broadcasted on MLG.tv, with select live regional finals taking place late February through early March in Australia, the United Kingdom and the U.S. The live regional finals will be played on Xbox One and will also be broadcasted live on MLG.tv and other broadcast partners.

KONAMI to Stream Pre-E3 Show

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. – May 14th, 2013 – Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. today announced that GameSpot, part of CBS Interactive, will live stream its third-annual “Pre-E3 Show 2013” beginning at 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET on June 6th on www.gamespot.com. The show will also stream via the GameSpot app on Xbox LIVE.

To promote the show, special tune-in announcements will air on CBS Television stations in eight major markets, reflecting the first time a gaming manufacturer’s online news event will be promoted on television stations across the country.

During this year’s show, KONAMI will update fans and gaming enthusiasts for the third year in a row by releasing company news, game trailers and exclusive interviews all prior to E3. The company’s Pre-E3 show will provide insight into upcoming products from its social games studios, feature behind the scenes footage and interviews for the next addition to the PRO EVOLUTION SOCCER franchise with Producer Kei Masuda, and provide the inside scoop on Hideo Kojima’s next title in the METAL GEAR SOLID series, METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN. The Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) event is one of the largest cultural events held in Los Angeles. Computer and video game companies, business partners, media, and industry analysts from over 90 countries will converge on the Los Angeles Convention Center from June 11th, 2013 to June 13th, 2013 to attend this year’s E3.

2K Games Will Not Have E3 2013 Booth

On its forums today, 2K Games Ronnie Singh announced that the company would not have a booth at this year’s E3 expo.

SAN DIEGO – April 25, 2013 – Sony Online Entertainment LLC (SOE) today announced that tickets are now available for its annual community fan event, SOE Live, which will take place at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas on August 1 – August 4, 2013.

“At SOE Live 2013 we are planning exciting announcements, panels, and special activities for every game in our portfolio, meaning that there are multiple reasons for our entire community to join us in Las Vegas and represent their favorite SOE games,” said Linda Carlson, Director of Community Relations, Sony Online Entertainment. “Players will be able to meet their favorite developers, enter tournaments, participate in live quests, and game late into the night. Nintendo Will Not Have Large E3 Press Event

According to a Gametrailers post, Satoru Iwata, president of Nintendo, has stated that the company will not hold a traditional, large-scale E3 press event as they have done in years past. Instead, the company will be holding a number of smaller events focused directly on the West. Here is a translation of Satoru’s comment from a recent investor conference:

“Unlike previous years, we will not have a large-scale presentation [at E3] directed to everyone in the world. Instead, we are planning several smaller events focusing on software for America. Among these hands-on events will be one for American distributors and another for western media.”

Depending on who you ask, this is a wise or unwise decision for the company, whose Wii U console has sold 33% fewer units than expected. With the recent PlayStation 4 event and even more recent announcement that Microsoft will reveal the next Xbox on May 21, it is clear that Nintendo does not want to go head to head with the two gaming goliaths.
