Nuu MiniKey for iPhone 5 Review (Tech)

nuu-minkey-iphone5

Nuu has made a lot of people happy with their MiniKey bluetooth keyboard cases for Apple’s iPhone line of smartphones. The people I write of are those who simply cannot get onboard with the virtual keyboard found on touchscreen devices. I know several people like this – my own mother being one. Personally, I don’t have a preference either way – I will use whatever is available. I got a chance to use  their MiniKey case for iPhone 5 for a while and have found it to be a nice device that I could live without. I’ll expound… The MiniKey…

FAVI HDTV SmartStick Review (Tech)

SS-8GB-3

FAVI has released a very cool little product that promises to make getting a “Smart TV” experience simple and easy with its SmartStick. The SmartStick is a small dongle measuring 3.6-inches by 1.3-inches. There is an HDMI port sticking out of one end and a USB expansion port on the other. To the unit’s side is a mini-USB power port and an IR receiver port. To install the SmartStick, you simply plug the dongle into an available HDMI port, connect it to an available USB port for power (most TVs with HDMI ports have one), and then connect the IR…

ContourROAM2 Camera Review (Tech)

contour-roam-2

Contour’s new ContourROAM2 action-sports camera manages to fit a lot of capability and quality into its $199 dollar. New action sports cameras are popping up all the time. Most, however, are simply bringing the most standard of features and mediocre image processors to the table. While these cameras will do fine for the layperson looking to record a skiing trip or some other leisurely activity, serious sports players want to make sure their videos come out right. This could be for personal memories, playbacks, post-game debriefings – even Airsoft game play for your team’s YouTube channel. That being said, when first using…

Tachyon OPS HD Camera Review (Tech)

tachyon-ops-1

One of the coolest videos I saw when first researching the sport of Airsoft was taken from an M4 Carbine AEG’s front rail system. Looking into this further, the company behind the gun camera was Tachyon Inc. Tachyon makes durable cameras for not only action sports but, also, real-world military and law enforcement applications. The Tachyon Ops HD shoots 1280×720 video @ 30fps, using a 125 degree field of view. This makes it a more natural image without creating a fisheye effect. Additionally, the camera is capable of timelapse photography. In this mode, the camera will take one photo every 2 seconds. Unlike…

Edifier Predator 2.1 Speaker System Review (Tech)

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Most people, particularly us gamers and technophiles, labor under the illusion that we need a large, megawatt speaker system to enjoy our computer entertainment experience.  We hook up lots of speakers with a gigantic subwoofer and some trademarked, proprietary sound experience then settle in our chair and get ready for the ride.  What does that ride consist of in most cases?  That sound system set to no more than halfway up and most of that experience lost.  We live in an ever-shrinking world where we have to be considerate of the neighbors because so many of us live in apartments,…

Bluetune-Solo Bluetooth Speaker Review

solo_1.png

For whatever reason, the universe hates me when it comes to portable speakers for my bluetooth and music devices.  Over the years, I have tried a number of products that just never seemed to give me the quality of sound that I was looking for.  This explains why my heart sank a few levels when I heard my next review would be the Bluetune-Solo bluetooth speaker from Divoom.  Preparing myself for another disappointing product that didn’t deliver on what was promised, I awaited my package to arrive. Packaging and Contents: The Bluetune-Solo came packaged quite nicely, displaying the speaker prominently at the…

iKit NuCharge for iPhone 5 Review (Tech)

babca17ce38166cbdcf014e3959175ee_large

iKit’s soon to be released NuCharge battery case for the iPhone 5 has had a terrific Kickstarter campaign. The campaign, which still has a day or two left, has double that of what they were hoping for – a testament to the well-planned design and promised capabilities of the device. Recently, iKit sent us over an early model of their NuCharge case and we have been very pleased with its usage over the past week. The company promises it to double your iPhone 5′s battery life and it truly does just that. Opening the well-packaged iKit NuCharge for iPhone 5,…

Boogie Board Rip LCD eWriter Review (Tech)

$T2eC16RHJGkE9no8hl0oBQrl(p8f,g~~60_3

Improv Electronics has released their highly talked-about Boogie Board Rip LCD eWriter. Retailing between $100 and $130 dollars depending on the e-tailer, the Boogie Board Rip promises to allow users to take down and store quick notes, epiphanies, or any other thing one might jot down on a piece of scratch paper. Measuring about the size of an Apple iPad, the Boogie Board Rip has a body made from solid gray plastic and a large writing surface to take notes down on. The stylus is fairly generic in appearance – however is very comfortable to write with. Unfortunately, there seemed…

Polk Audio Ultra Focus 8000 Headphones Review

747192122195_4

Polk Audio’s new, flagship headphones are the UltraFocus 8000. Featuring active noise-canceling, elegant styling  and a $349.95 dollar price point, I went into this review expecting my ears to feel like angel babies wrapped in pillow of clouds. Was I disappointed? Not one bit. Out of the box, the Polk Audio UltraFocus 8000 active noise-canceling headphones come in their very own black, attractive carrying case. Polk Audio has gone to great lengths to add elegance and class to this pair of headphones, and the added care the case provides is welcome. Getting everything unpacked, I was blown away by the headphones…

Captain Kirk MIMOBOT USB Drive Review

tn2_de3d3dbf5c2d4d6fb59b241abc129441

MIMOCO sent us over one of their new “Star Trek X MIMOBOT Series 1″ USB drives for review. Being Spock fans, we were hoping to see our favorite pointy-eared science officer when we opened the package but, instead, were gleefully-greeted by the phaser-wielding Captain James T. Kirk, clad in his gold uniform. In terms of design, each of the new Star Trek X MIMOBOTs are well-drawn and have a stylized representation of the characters they represent. MIMOCO has long-been known for stylish, stylized USB drives and the Star Trek ones are no exception. In terms of using the MIMOBOT USB drive, it…

Creative Labs Sound Blaster ZxR Review

cards

The new Creative Labs Sound Blaster ZxR sound card is a behemoth of audio goodness. Un-boxing everything from the package, I was very impressed with the design style Creative Labs put into their new, flagship sound card. The sound cards feature black aluminum bodies with red accents and a pleasing shine. You did read that correctly: Sound cardS. As it turns out, the Sound Blaster ZxR comes with two cards that install into your computer system. The first card is the base ZxR itself, and the other is the DBPro daughter board. The DBPro board contains optical inputs and outputs…

Party Animals – Russell The Rabbit Review (Tech)

Russel_Rabbit_19608c3 - Copy

At CES, I saw all kinds of new tech and gadgets. Among all the tech I saw, some of my favorites were the robotics and toys, two things very close and dear to my heart.  There is probably something Freud would say about that, but he is dead and CES is once a year.  So, when I got some chance, free time, I wandered around taking in the sights. One booth that stuck out in my mind featured a line of cute animals dancing on their hind legs to music emanating from within them.  Down the table from them was…
