SpookyShogun Movie Review: Grave Encounters 2
Grave Encounters 2, the new film from the Vicious Bros., begins by showing clips of students reacting and talking about Grave Encounters. The new film takes a reality/viral-video style voyage in a world where the first film was actually released to its characters. The new cast in the sequel begin to investigate the original film’s production (which has become a sort of cult-film) and decide to delve deeper into its happenings. Obviously, this is just a terrible idea and will results in creeps, scares, chills, and death. Unlike Human Centipede 2, which takes a similar look at its preceding film,…
SpookyShogun Movies: HOLLOW (2012) Review
HOLLOW (2012) is a British “found footage” film helmed by first-time Director, Michael Axelgaard. It follows four friends as they go on holiday to an old, abandoned monastery in the countryside. When screening HOLLOW, I was intrigued by the synopsis of the film. Apparently, there is a wicked-looking tree near the old site that has a long history of couples committing suicide by hanging from its branches. However, some believe that there is a darker force at work making the couples end their lives. It all sounds great in concept, but HOLLOW ends up being a very slow, plodding found…
Juan Of The Dead (Movie Review)
When you think of Cuba and exports, it is almost always the illegal cigars supposedly rolled on the thighs of virgins (hey I am allergic to smoke, all I know about cigars I learned from TV and movies). Otherwise if you know your history the only other things that generally pop into one’s mind is the Cuban Missile Crisis and a guy name Fidel who, like Hitler, has ruined the use his name for all time. Oh and the Bay Of Pigs, that should really be in there somewhere I guess. What you don’t think of out of Cuba is…
Act of Valor Review (Movies)
Act of Valor, the new action flick in theaters which features active-duty U.S. Navy SEALs (apparently filmed in-between deployments), is both a salute to the men and women of the armed forces as well as an intense action movie. While its authenticity (you will NEVER see this much re-loading in any other action movie – seriously) is often times a blessing, it also acts as its biggest downfall as it utilizes soldiers, not actors, in the role as the SEALs themselves. Does this interesting mix of fact and fiction make the cut? Find out in our full review after the jump!
Stake Land Movie Review
This may be a bit too early for Halloween pieces (though you would not know it based on the number of The Thing stories we have posted of late) but a peculiar DVD arrived on the GamingShogun doorstep yesterday. The film was Jim Mickle’s Stake Land and, after having screened it, I thought I would post up my thoughts on what turned out to be a very welcome surprise. The basic premise behind Stake Land is nothing that we haven’t seen before – a virulent plague has swept the globe, turning people into blood-thirsty vampires. Where Stake Land takes this been-done…
