Sniper: Ghost Warrior Hits PS3 on June 28

City Interactive has announced that their upcoming release of Sniper: Ghost Warrior for the PlayStation 3 home entertainment system will hit retail stores on June 28. Sniper was originally released last year for the Xbox 360 and Windows PC platforms. This new version features several enhancements over the first game.

The PlayStation 3 system release of Sniper: Ghost Warrior features challenging, non-linear and strategic game play and mission variety and adds a host of new features, including:

§           Fully upgraded game play and graphics;
§           Exclusive single player missions for PS3 owners;
§           Bonus multiplayer maps;
§           Exclusive new multiplayer modes, including Capture the Flag and Hard Core difficulty mode;
§           Exclusive new sniper rifles including the L96 and the M200 Intervention;
§           Bonus single-player challenge includes additional mission with Hard Core mode to challenge the very best players.

First The Walking Dead Novel Announced

The Walking Dead: Rise of the Governor, the first novel based on The Walking Dead comic book series as been announced. Robert Kirkman, author of the comic series will also be writing the book. The Walking Dead: Rise of the Governor will be released on September 27th, 2011.

In The Walking Dead universe, there is no greater villain than The Governor. The despot who runs the walled-off town of Woodbury, he has his own sick sense of justice: whether it’s forcing prisoners to battle zombies in an arena for the townspeople’s amusement, or chopping off the appendages of those who cross him. The Governor was voted “Villain of the Year” by Wizard Magazine the year he debuted, and his story arc was the most controversial arc in the history of The Walking Dead comic book series. Now, for the first time, fans of The Walking Dead will discover how The Governor became the man he is, and what drove him to such extremes.

Over 250 Universities Signed up for CryENGINE 3

Crytek has announced that, worldwide, over 250 universities have signed up for educational licenses for their CryENGINE 3 game engine. The Educational SDKs allow those universities to teach game development to their students first-hand, allowing them to get their ‘hands dirty’ in a commercial product.

“We are absolutely delighted by the huge interest that academics from all around the globe have shown in CryENGINE 3. It’s really an honor for us to be considered the first-choice technology for so many leading universities. We consider them as strong partners, both in developing great software and improving our engine; and are really interested in further expanding those relationships.” said Carl Jones, Director of Global Business Development – CryENGINE.

What do you get when you cross an epic trailer with one of the most epic heroes in the Marvel universe?  SEGA released a cinematic trailer today for the soon to be released THOR: God Of Thunder that shows just how badass Anthony Hopkins can be.  Check out the trailer below and THOR: God Of Thunder when it hits store shelves on May 3rd for just about every console under the sun.

Ridge Racer Unbounded Teaser Trailer

Coming in 2012, Namco Bandai’s Ridge Racer Unbounded promises to take the racing game series into a new, fresh angle with urban street races featuring over-the-top, arcade action and destructive environments. Namco Bandai has released a new teaser trailer for the game, which you can see below.

Darkspore Launch Trailer

Electronic Arts and Maxis Software have launched their much-anticipated Darkspore, a sci-fi action RPG partially-based on their 2008’s Spore. Darkspore allow players to create and grow their own race of warriors to defeat an evil force spreading across the galaxy. In celebration of this launch, the companies have released a launch trailer for the title, which you can see below.

The Witcher 2 Gone Gold

CD Projekt RED has announced that their upcoming third-person actioner, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, has gone gold and is now off for mass production at the factory. The game is set for release on Windows PCs come May 17th.

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings is the eagerly awaited sequel to the award-winning, million-selling RPG that captured the imaginations of discerning players everywhere.  It introduced a truly unique protagonist, the professional slayer of monsters, Geralt of Rivia, and defined a new standard for thought-provoking, non-linear game narration, with mature themes, significant choices that weren’t automatically good or bad, and true decisions that led to meaningfully different consequences.

Mortal Kombat Review

NetherRealm Studios new Mortal Kombat is a re-imagining of the famed fighter series that began back in 1992 with the original Mortal Kombat. Created by Ed Boon and John Tobias, the series started off with an arcade fervor that lasted for a few iterations before losing some steam on the console generation as it began to stray from its core gameplay. This new Mortal Kombat, which has been released roughly 19 years after the original, is an attempt to get back to the roots of the series.

Call of the Dead Trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops Escalation

Activision has released a new trailer done up in VERY cool 1970’s grindhouse style showing off Call of the Dead, the new zombie game mode for their upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops Escalation content pack, due out on May 3rd. The new game mode features the likenesses and voices of cult fave like Danny Trejo, Michael Rooker, and Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Warcraft 4.1 Patch Notes for ‘Rise of the Zandalari’ Patch

Blizzard has released the next patch for their MMO giant, World of Warcraft, named “Rise of the Zandalari”.  The tribes of trolls that once ruled all of Azaroth have banded together to take back what was once theirs.  With the new patch, players can look forward to two raids that have been introduced in the past, but have been renewed for level 85 characters.  Both Zul’Gurub and Zul’Aman have been repopulated and now represent significant threats to the post-cataclysm world of Azeroth.

Players will also can look forward to other changes, such as new achievements, changes to class traits and spells, quest updates and bug fixes.  The entire set of patch notes can be seen here.
